We booked an afternoon tea via ‘Buy a gift’ and incorporated the visit into one of our coastal walks. The welcome on our arrival was warm, efficient and friendly. The actual Afternoon Tea was ‘Wonderful’ - it was tasty , varied and appetising - we had several types of sandwich, and numerous cakes. Followed by a very nice scone with lots of jam and cream. The very large pot of tea was followed by another. The staff were attentive and polite - perfectly professional. We extended our afternoon with a couple of drinks from the bar. Although we had the best experience we could have hoped for, the people at the next table had a bit of a delay awaiting their own Afternoon Tea - but to their ultimate credit, the hotel dealt with this expertly and these guests had a glass of champagne each by way of apology. Well done Moonfleet. After this experience we are resolved to going back for an evening meal - I personally can’t wait. Collapse

We knew that as a retired couple we would not be the target market for this hotel but enjoyed our visit very much. The Moonfleet seems to be aimed at attracting families with children and dogs and there are many good facilities for both, but visitors should be prepared to tolerate (or enjoy) plenty of children and dogs around. The hotel is situated on the mainland bank of the Fleet, about half way along Chesil Beach with the South West Coast path running along its boundary. Although there are views of the sea a few hundred yards away, access to the beach requires a journey of several miles. The hotel has several traditional, nicely furnished public rooms and interesting old furniture dotted around. Our room was a good size, with a balcony and sea view. Our only criticism concerned the rather inadequate plumbing - a feeble flow from the shower and a very temperamental flush on the WC. Staff were friendly and efficient, (almost too fast at clearing away courses!) and the food we ate was very good. It would be an excellent place to treat our grandchildren and their parents but probably too expensive for us to do so! Collapse
