The Messner Dependence consists of a group of historic buildings overlooking a small canal in the Dorsoduro neighbourhood of Venice, and just a few steps from the Salute water bus stop. It offers comfortably furnished rooms and a varied breakfast buffet. Around the corner, guests will find the Accademia art gallery and the Penny Guggenheim Museum. Across the nearby Grand Canal, you can travel by water bus to the famous Saint Mark’s Square or Santa Lucia Train Station.
All of the hotel rooms at the Messner Dependence come with satellite TV, safe, and a private bathroom with hairdryer. The majority of rooms have air conditioning and a number of rooms overlook the hotel’s garden or the canal.
After a busy day of exploring the varied sights of Venice, guests can visit the hotel’s bustling restaurant and enjoy a delicious meal and a fine glass of wine. The main hotel building provides a bar and a small outdoor seating area for an al fresco dining experience.
A few steps from the main hotel takes you to the annex buildings for a more residential atmosphere in one of the historic canal-side buildings. Situated in the middle of the aristocratic and elegant Sestiere di Dorsoduro neighbourhood, your rooms are surrounded by the placid waters of the Canale De La Fornasa. From here you can explore the mysterious Venetian streets and passages on a discovery of antique stores, galleries and museums. Guests will be checked-in and take breakfast at the main hotel building - Messner Palace.

Hard to find hotel reception, was put in rooms away from hotel and a short work. Reception man showed us but failed to carry up heavy suitcase for my mother (in her 70’s) up steep stairs without a hand rail. Room tiny twin room I’d say 12ft x 6ft, very red! Nowhere to hang clothes except a very high small cupboard above the beds so very hard to reach!! Sink in bathroom tap cover missing and plastic shower curtain covered in mould at the bottom. Dirty strobe lights above beds for lamps with graffiti written on. Not impressed. Breakfast included but very simple cheap products. Was a birthday treat and fab holiday but hotel Messner a big disappointment. Would class it a 2* Collapse

What a horrid hotel. Firstly my daughter and I were stuck in a nasty annexe more suitable for students than a 73 year and a forty something. It was basic to say the least. But I literally saw red when I saw our tiny room. All the walls carpet and covers were a sickening blood red in colour. We had blankets instead of a duvet. There was nowhere to hang clothes unless you were over 8 foot tall and could reach a small cupboard with hangers attached to the ceiling. Mouldy shower blind. Broken tap top. To get to this delightful room you had to go up a steep stairway with no handrail. Often no light. I have limited mobility so I was very fearful of falling and I did on one occasion miss the last step on descent and nearly crashed into a mirror. We never tried the tv telephone or hairdryer. On the only positive note the room was warm but we tried to spend as little as possible time in it. The guy on reception had a take it or leave it attitude. Wish we'd never taken it.... Collapse

I have no complaints at all about the hotel, the room, or the food ... however I do want to mention a member of staff! We arrived down to the restaurant for breakfast and whilst waiting to be seated you have to stand in front of the kitchen. There was a HORRIFIC smell whilst standing there, that we just assumed was another guest because surely it couldn’t be a member of staff. However when we were at the drinks area a member of staff passed us and we soon realised this smell was coming from this member of staff. It was foul to say the least. I understand sometimes people work hard, and also that sometimes people do occasionally pong a bit, HOWEVER, in a food environment it is not acceptable! The member of staff kept returning to the kitchen, obviously and the smell wafted behind them, and so the kitchen must have been stinking as well because the restaurant was! We ended up taking one bite out of a croissant and then this member of staff appeared beside us to clear a table and so spent considerable time there, moving about and wafting, and we actually found ourselves BOAKING due to the stench. We never ate anymore of our breakfast but instead just left the restaurant and we ended up getting breakfast outwith the hotel instead. Like I said I have no other complaints, but when it comes to members of staff, specifically ones who deal with food and in the kitchen etc, this cannot happen. It makes you wonder just how clean and hygienic any of the areas this person has a hand in is, and that worries me. Collapse

I booked the hotel with option "Pay upon arrival" but they charged me immediately. After that I contacted them and asked them to get my money back - they didn't do it. I contacted the booking system - they tried to contact them as well - nothing happened. So I cancelled my booking and the money are still by them. The only thing I could do is open a dispute through my bank. NEVER DEAL WITH THIS HOTEL!!! I wrote them e-mails, I called them. They answered just until I asked about my money. Collapse

I stayed at the hotel with friends for two nights and we were attacked by mosquitoes the whole night. Whilst I am aware of this problem in Venice I was not prepared for the complete lack of care and attention from the staff. I asked for the room to be sprayed while we were out and they made no attempt whatsoever and apparently had nothing available to do so. Their lack of concern was shocking and told me to email my concerns they have not answered and the phone number is uncontactable. Do not stay there. It's an appalling service with little regard for the concern if their guests. Collapse
