Far too expensive for two nights stay in a shabby 'executive' room

Last minute booking as another arrangement had fallen through and according to the website this was the only room left in the hotel. We stayed in the Business Centre in a ground floor Executive room. Three keys/codes required for access, keys fine but due to arthritis I could not jab the code into the inner door to gain access to our corridor, luckily my other half could do this. The room was large and had an entertaining mixture of four poster bed with moulded plaster ceiling and modern style other features. However on settling in we noticed mould/damp patches on the two external upper corners of the bedroom, the foot board of the bed was dirty, walls and carpet had stains, there was a six inch metal protrusion from the bottom of the central light fitting where something had broken off, leaving a metal spike there is dangerous. We asked for another chair to sit on as only one was present (despite website photos) and were told this room only comes with one chair, no other could be found that night but possibly the day after - none arrived. Curtains had marks on them. Bathroom at first glance fine, but then we noticed the tap had lost its handle, the rubber bath mat had mould stains and when I tried to re-position it quite a few suckers tore off and stayed on the bath. No blind/curtain at bathroom window - felt a bit exposed at night. The cleaning staff were not employed for long enough as when we exited our room on the first day a towel pack had been left at our door and no-one came in later to clean. The bins were not emptied, cleaning not undertaken etc for the two days we stayed. Also noise from other guests came though door clearly. With hindsight we should have gone to a cheaper hotel/motel but for this special weekend we thought we would treat ourselves and spend a bit more - what a waste of money. Collapse

Final stay for this football season. Upgrade on room and again been looked after by the staff. Thanks can go to night porters Luke and Dean, bar staff Richard and Sam, restaurant staff Lisa, Tina, Rachel, chefs who I don not know their names and reception staff of Emma, Sophie, Sarah and Stephanie, and for the staff who clean the rooms. All who have made me welcomed for the last 3 months since my last review. Hotel is suitable for centre of town with bus routes and only 15 minute walk Collapse

We were going to an engagement party so decided to use some Accor points for an overnight stay. The first room we were given was on the top floor and almost the furthest away from the reception. After negotiating the stairs (both up and down) and fire doors we found our room only to discover we had no coat hangers or coffee. Up and down and round and round to reception to ask for missing items and while I was there I remarked on the noise from out side which turned out to be the kitchen so I was offered a different room. Second room was baking hot with only one small window so I said we preferred the noise to the heat. The delightful receptionist then offered to upgrade us to a room in the business centre so we moved. We then decided to go for a swim so back to reception to sign in and get towels. We were not told that there were no locks on the lockers so had to bring all our belongings to the poolside. The pool was ok but the holes in the ceiling were off putting. The steam room and sauna were both freezing cold. Back in our room it took ages to get any hot water into the shower and then it was only luke warm. After returning from a party after midnight we did not appreciate housekeeping knocking us up before 8 o'clock!! We did not stay for breakfast so can't comment on the food. Would we stay here again - probably not. The only positive point was the attitude and helpfulness of the staff - one lady seemed to be doing everything from checking people in to serving drinks, but cheerfully. Collapse
