This is maybe a harsh 2 stars, but I'm comparing to the luxury of The Arden, which probably spoilt me. The total cost of my stay here, with no breakfast and for single occupancy, would almost have paid for a couple to stay at The Arden, with a gin cocktail and breakfast. No competition, when the room I was given was really quite noisy (groups tramping past late on and lots of chatter in the hallway), breakfast would have been silly sum extra, and things are just a little bit rough around the edges. I do think the parking fee could have been waived, given the issue I raised about noise - but no, I paid all £10 of it on top of my room fee. I know which place I'd choose next time. Collapse

Walking into the hotel from the car park was a brilliant experience, the decor, the smell and the feel of the place really felt in keeping with the area and history of Stratford. You couldn't ask for a better location right right in the centre of town with all the attractions right on the door step. We didn't eat in the restaurant but being a marco Pierre white restaurant I'm 99% sure the food would be top notch. We had a room with a view over the gardens of "Shakespeare's house" it was lovely and quiet too. The only real gripe is that after paying £200 For one night, the car parking is not guaranteed and it cost £10. Also breakfast was not included and was an extra £10 each. We have stayed in hotels just as good, if not better for much less but I guess you pay a premium for its location. Never the less, the staff were excellent and welcoming, the room was very clean and tidy. We were upgraded to a premier room with a Nespresso machine, dressing gowns and slippers and two telly's (his and hers) As a one off it was worth it but unless your willing to pay a premium I'm sure there would be accommodation cheaper within the vicinity albeit without the same charm. The Shakespeare Hotel has been my home away from home for more than a year now, due to my weekly business trips to the West Midlands. Unfortunately, all good things come to an end and I have to bid them farewell due a change in job location. Firstly, location is central and convenient. There is chargeable parking in the hotel, on first come first serve basis. The hotel is an old Tudor building that is full of character, very fitting in Shakespeare town. Every time I stepped into the hotel I am greeted by friendly faces. I often get a welcome note accompanied by snacks waiting in the room upon check-in. The reception team - Anais, Ella, Michaela & Adam - is outstanding. They know my quirky habits and always try to ensure the room is prepared to my preference. Lilyana from breakfast and Lindsey from the restaurant are among my favourite people in the hotel too. They are polite, cheerful and would go the extra mile with no hesitation, which made my stay that much better. I do not know the housekeeping team well as they usually clean my room when I am not there. Their service is hit and miss as I do have minor complains about cleanliness and other things at times. The reception team, who always have their A game on, would help to rectify these issues. So this slight inconsistency didn't bother me too much. Last but not least, James, the GM, is a very down to earth and friendly person. He would greet guests at the restaurant during breakfast and once offered to move his car in the lot so I can park my car since all other spots were occupied. This shows great leadership and no wonder the hotel frontliners are all top-notch. Apologies that I couldn't name each and every one of the staff that has crossed path with me throughout my stay. Do know that I will remember the exceptional hospitality that was extended to me for the past year by all of you. Thank you! Collapse

This is a lovely hotel, nice and central and an easy walk to the theatre. Friendly staff. The rooms are a good size and very clean. I did not have breakfast, but it smelled nice. I'm happy to recommend this hotel

Shame about the Car Park

Hotel was good, old and creaky with lots of character. Staff friendly and breakfast very good. The double parking in the limited car park was ridiculous and the £10 charge was absurd - you were charged to stay at the hotel!
