On pulling up to the hotel the exterior was a let down, it looks like a down and out hotel, forgotten about. Weeds everywhere, dirty and in need of a paint. On entrance the doorway filled with rubbish and leaves, clearly being blown in but it was like this over the two days so no-one cleans it obviously. We walked in to find two staff a young girl and a young tall very camp young man who looked at us and looked away and carried on talking. How rude. We had to speak to them and he wasn't very cooperative and was very curt. The door card didn't work, so we had to go back to the desk and explained the card didn't work. He looked at me like dirt and gave me two cards to use. They equally didn't work. We took these back again and now he was still rude and no apology, treated me like an inconvenience. He gave the master card to the girl who worked there and she came down to the room. We were given two cards yet only one of us were staying the night. That's how little attention was being paid to us. The room was nice, the toilet wasn't the nicest, doesn't look like it was cleaned everyday. The manager /staff didn't show us around the hotel, just gave directions to the room. No direction for the restaurant. We went and found it and the tables weren't even cleaned, they still had crumbs and dirty plates on. Quite simply after a 7 hour journey to get there and no greeting, no nothing. Shocking lack of hotelier service. The carpets through the hotel weren't cleaned as we noticed the same bits of rubbish there for two days. I think the hotel needs to start reading these bad reviews as it appears there are quite a few, maybe if we'd have read them first we wouldn't have booked my aunty in there. The hotel needs new management, new staff and team of cleaners. What happened to hotel training???? I was so disappointed as I live in Penkridge and this was embarrassing. The outside of the hotel is a mess, looks broken down and dirty. What happened here, many years ago it was a beautiful hotel. Now its an embarrassment to Penkridge. Its like faulty towers without the humour. Collapse

Myself and a work colleague arrived at this hotel after a five hour journey, and on first appearance it looked like the hotel has been shut for a year or two, the hotel weed infested surroundings and car park looked as though they had been neglected for years. The windows looked blacked out, the walls looked weathered and tatty, and there were no signs of life. For a moment I thought we'd arrived at the wrong place and at an abandoned estate in the country. I'll bypass the checking in and hotel room for now and move on to the dinner.... This was an embarrassing farce.. the menu promised so much, yet when ordering we discovered it delivered so little. They had run out of burgers so we ordered chicken breast burgers, however after half an hour we were told that the chicken breast burgers we had ordered were no longer available, had to settle for what was called battered chicken breast fillets, but when we got these they looked like something bought from the nearest discount supermarket, they didn't resemble chicken breast at all, they were a slimey yellow colour, obviously a man made factory processed entity blob, Yes they probably had processed reshaped chicken breast in them, but you can be sure they had lots of other chicken parts in them too. Then I was told the homemade coleslaw I'd ordered with my meal wasn't available either, so I ordered a garlic Bap in its place which never turned up. The same thing happened with the dessert, half way through our meals we were informed that there was no custard to go with the apple pie and custard we'd we'd ordered. Breakfast was another farce.. again the menu promised so much, but reality delivered so little. When I asked where the cheese and hams were as shown on the menu, I was told that the menu was wrong and was supposed to be changed shortly, and that the cheese and ham didn't exist as did most of the list in the continental section, there was in fact only a fraction of the available food from the continental selection as advertised.. Which amounted to a couple of croissants, a few boxes of cereal, and a few jugs of fruit juice.. that's it, though I did see a place where maybe a yogart or two had been once been. I ordered a cooked breakfast, I avoided the sausages as I'd seen a couple of guests the night before expressing their disgust at the sausages and mash. I ordered bacon, eggs beans, hash browns and mushrooms, however I was told they had no mushrooms, apparently they'd run out of mushrooms the night before, I just rolled my eyes and shook my head with despair. To be honest the rooms were not too bad, very spacious with a I large bed, I did feel sorry for the girl serving us our food at night, as she had to keep coming out and apologising for the lack of available food that we'd ordered while in the background we could hear the loud grumpy voice of the chef shouting and hollering. I'm sorry, but this is the worst hotel I've ever stayed, it was like a scene from Fawlty towers. The hotel has lots of potential, it could be turned into such a lovely place, but it's going to take lots of investment not only in money but also in staff, Especially management. Collapse
