We stopped for two nights here and I’m afraid to say there are very few positives to this hotel Rooms : very dated, toilet needed flushing 4 times to be successful, shower was so old and low you had to crouch under it Bed was incredibly uncomfortable, pillows were totally flat (had to use three) Carpets were dated and wallpaper was damaged Breakfast; came down at 8:15 morning one and there was barely anything left at all and the poor gentleman was so rushed off his feet I didn’t want to bother him. Had a piece of toast and a plate of beans. Really wanted fruit but there was none Looked really messy and unappealing as if I had attended when breakfast was I’ve r Day two at 7am was better but the breakfast itself really was poor overall Dinner; food was ok at dinner, much better than breakfast. The lady who served us apologised verbally for us receiving the wrong dessert and exclaiming the menu has essentially had changed - her face however was very much of annoyance of us questioning it General facilities : corridors and toilets for communal areas awful. One set of toilets contained three ladies WC’s - two with snapped toilet seats, one with the seat totally off ! Overall a dated tired hotel. Facilities are poor Hotel signage is poor and is like a maze Some staff are friendly namely the gentlemen in the restaurant and people in the bar, Beds and breakfast have to be the worst of all the hotels I have stopped in I read somewhere this was meant to be a 4 star hotel - I could not agree less and believe two star is fair Collapse

Having been a member of the accor loyalty scheme for the last ten years, at gold or platinum level, I was rather hoping for a decent room. Loyalty works both ways. The reality was a small room in the eves, half way down a dark corridor with an overpowering stench of dampness, overlooking a car park. In fairness the manager offered to try to find another room for the second night, but said they were very busy with a wedding. On the upside, breakfast was ok and the staff were charming but overstretched. Unlikely to be a return visit. Collapse

Stayed for 1night for dinner and breakfast booked via Groupon. Found the hotel very quaint set in beautiful grounds. Unfortunately we had dismal weather so couldn't enjoy the outside bar area or gardens. We had a standard room no. 4,it was dual aspect with lovely old features high ceilings sash windows. Large vanity area with good shower double size (my only grudge would be the shower screan did not extend full way accross the shower tray and meant you could flood the floor if not careful) Had excellent shower. Excellent quality food in the restaurant it was a lovely ambiance. Waiting staff were very helpful friendly. Breakfast was help yourself buffet style with filter coffee/tea served at table. Bed was very comfy we had great nights sleep. Overall I would highly recommend a stay here, the deal was great value for money, we even had use of the Nuffield sports gym, enjoying excellent sauna facilities. I would not complain about anything but if I paid full tariff then few snagging details would be on my list.. small faults areas which could a do with attention eg. Our bedside lamp was cracked, net curtains were torn(probably where trapped in the window by careless people) Collapse

I'm going to be totally honest when we arrived we were thinking we had made a bad mistake it was like arriving at an old peoples home . A lovely old building but has definitely not been up kept . Room was a little small but clean. Toilet seat broken so reported to reception who did offer for us to change rooms. Dining room was very nice and both our evening meal and breakfast were very good and all dining staff were very attentive and helpful. Bed was very comfy and the hotel was quiet at night. I have to say the staff at this hotel were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble . We took our dog along and he was made exceptionally welcome in fact whilst sitting in the bar several members of staff actually came to greet him and treat him . So if anyone reads this from mercury hotels your staff are exceptional at this hotel and made our stay so maybe think about doing some maintenance on this place and it may make all the difference to your reviews on trip adviser ! * When we arrived, the hotel staff were very friendly and we were able to check in approx. hour earlier. * The room was very spacious and comfortable, and the hotel itself is beautiful. * We used the spa facilitates, although had to go back for towels as this was not clear we needed to bring our own. Reception were happy to provide additional towels. * The corridors and hotel were very hot. * When getting ready for the evening, both myself and my husband wanted a shower, however the water was freezing cold. My husband went to speak to reception, and was informed the boiler was not switched on, and that it would take time to heat up. Staff suggested we go back to the spa and have a shower there, which was just not practical as we were getting ready for a black tie event. * The water did not heat up within 30mins, and we both ended up having cold showers, myself washing my hair with clothes still on as it was freezing at approx. 5.30pm. * The reception area for the dinner was not large enough for the group, and was very hot and unpleasant. * The food was excellent, and the service impressive given the large size of our group. * I spoke to reception about the water issue on Sun and was offered to air my complaint or to speak with yourself, I did not want to discuss this issue at the time, as I did not want to cause a fuss with the organisers of the event still present at the hotel. I am not sure how widespread the issue of the hot water was. Collapse
