I attended an evening meeting of my professional association and it seemed logical to stay here as opposed to staying with my firm’s usual suspects. Nice room as you would expect but I had a bit to do to tidy the day’s work up ,Linking with new associates from the meeting and clear my e-mail so I put the radio on low to help my concentration. However when I turned in to go to bed I was amazed to hear a loud Transformer like hum pervading the room. A call to reception immediately produced the offer of another room but at 00:35 a trek around the hotel wearing flip flops, shorts and Tee-shirt was deffo not on. I retired only to find that the sash window at the side of the bed just didn’t quite close and there was a cold draught whisking over the duvet. Being adjacent to the nodding donkeys at the car park entrance meant that the late night throb of car engines added to the mix but not to be outdone by the HGV’s delivering supplies to the hotel and most noisily of all was the bin wagon at around six am. Into the bathroom to find holes in the sink surround “bullet holes” in the bath enamel broken door locks @ “spare” rawlplug holes supplied FOC -just in case ,I suppose? Out to pack the the car by the nearest entrance which also served as the entrance and nearly cutting my hand on another broken door handle on the way out. On my way back to my room to go for breakfast at approx 6:50 I came face to face with a uniformed member of staff who didn’t even offer any kind of greeting simply giving a cursory glance. Later he was in the breakfast room and passed four or five times without a word. - Honestly if I want to be ignored at breakfast I can stay at home and accomplish that most days. Upon checking out ,Reception were unable to give me a receipt but they emailed it to me - I had asked for this when I booked and paid in April to get the expense into my April account with the office. The buzzing noise was explained as belonging to the electrical distribution board that they use to operate the building. SO THEY ALREADY KNEW ABOUT IT AND KEPT SCHTUM‼️ The buffer at our meeting was acceptable but heaven only knows why there were only four bottles water (& two bottles of elderflower cordial) provided for sixty odd delegates formally listening to six speakers with a Q&A session. The Mercure hotel makes a lot of “Recently Refurbished”. Hmm I say Mercure Rising ~ Still some way left to go⁉️ Collapse

Travelling for work and client suggested I stay at this hotel so duly booked. Good experience at booking and check in. Room pleasant and well sound proofed. Comfortable bed. Evening meal was ok but service was a little slow and inattentive. The staff didn’t seem very interested. Overall a reasonable stay but closer supervision would improve their offering. Collapse

They made the day special and everything was really well set up. The staff were friendly and rooms nice and clean as I stayed overnight and was given a good breakfast in the morning. I would recommend this hotel for this type of occasion.

We attended the evening reception of a wedding at The Mercure on 6th May. Plenty of free parking (when you hand in your parking ticket, reception give you a voucher to exit the car park), very easy check-in with a very friendly, pleasant member of staff. Once inside the hotel, you could not tell you were near a busy motorway or on what is, in effect, an industrial estate. It was actually very quiet and you could have been in the middle of nowhere. The wedding marquee was fabulous and the buffet - sausage, bacon and chips with barm cakes - was delicious and perfect for the occasion. We stayed in room 204, which overlooked the inner courtyard, and were very impressed. Spotlessly clean, tea and coffee making facilities, lovely bathroom and a huge bed which was super comfy! Yes, it was two beds fitted together but it was brilliant and my husband and I both had a very good night’s sleep. The room was a little warm, but we phoned reception and they sorted out the air conditioning remotely which was fab. As I mentioned earlier, our room was very quiet and very dark which we both love. We didn’t use the leisure facilities but they looked great - a small weights room and a very nice pool with a jacuzzi - we wished we’d had more time so we could have used them. Breakfast was self-service and served until 11.00am - which is great after a late night. I wish more hotels would do this. I had lovely scrambled egg on toast and my husband had a full breakfast and some cereal. The food was continuously checked by staff and nothing ran out. Lots of variety and a very nice lady in charge who looked after everyone very well. The staff were very friendly and helpful. A very enjoyable stay. Collapse
