We visited this hotel for a Black tie dinner and must admit the evening was perfect, great attentive staff and the food was good considering they catered for 200 guests, the room was clean and bed comfortable so all in all a good experience, but then in the morning (Sunday) we went down to breakfast at 10am the restaurant was open till 10.30 so we expected no problem however, the toast machine was broken, the buffet cooked breakfast was empty of everything other than fried eggs and sausages, people were waiting for the buffet to be replenished but most gave up. Such a shame and let down for what was otherwise a good experience Collapse
Tired hotel, appalling breakfast experience

Check-in service was fine, slightly earlier than the advertised time which was appreciated. Hotel overall is impersonal and tired looking - definitely needs an update. Room was clean enough however and had the usual amenities, although a little cold. Experience was ruined by breakfast. Sunday breakfast was until 10:30am, and we arrived about 10:10am to find dirty, un-laid tables, an almost empty cold buffet and a queue at the hot buffet. There were no sausages, bacon, eggs etc, hence guests had to wait for these to be cooked and brought out. No bread for toasting, tea / coffee machines were not working...you get the idea. The most disappointing part was that the staff were not making any visible urgent effort to rectify the situation. In fact, when asking for some fruit and yogurt and pointing out that the buffet was almost empty, the attitude of a particular member of staff was to give an excuse (that there were a lot of people - this was obvious to guests) instead of making an effort to replenish the food. The whole operation was woefully disorganised and there was no obvious manager who should have taken control of the situation. A hotel of this size should be prepared for large numbers of guests having a later breakfast on a Sunday morning, particularly if the hotel is mostly occupied from an event the night before. Not a cheap hotel and wasn't expecting loads, but definitely not a 4* - I would give it 3* at the most. Collapse

Stayed here on Christmas eve as I was back visiting my family (for Christmas obviously). Check in was easy enough however I was told me room was "down that corridor" so after making several wrong turns and down a couple flights of stairs, 5 minutes later, I found my room! I stay in room 161 (I believe) and upon arriving it looked really nice! Decor and feel of the room was great. I'd been travelling all day so thought I'd chill in the bed before going to meet family + friends. I pulled the cove back and there was a rather large orange stain on one side of the bed and on the pillow next to it. I really couldn't be bothered to walk all the way back to reception to then get more sheets or chang room so I left it. The bed was also super uncomfy and I could just feel the springs. Later on I went to the toilet and there were black marks/stains on the toilet seat and brown dirt all over the bathtub. I was going to mention it on my way out of the hotel but there was no staff around so I thought I'd leave it until check out. Later in the night I came back and fell asleep after a little while... only to wake up to a really loud engine sound at 7am?! I looked out of the window and it was a courtyard... so where was this sound coming from?!?! I went to check out around 12 and question all of this as I was in a pretty bad mood. Waited at reception for a good 5 mins of people walking past. Eventually a lady did come over to me to check me out. I handed her my key and she said "wait... oh there is nothing to pay - thankyou" and then walked off as if she had somewhere else to be. No "how was your stay" or anything like that. Just "You don't owe us any money". Brilliant, thanks! I didn't want to stand around and wait for someone else to come over to complain to as I was tired and, to be honest, really just wanted to get out of there. Won't be staying here again. £50 is way too much for one of your rooms! Especially when they're still dirty! P.s. the older lady at the bar on Christmas eve in the evening was extremely friendly. Seemed really happy to be working there! Not so much some of the other members of staff... Collapse
