We stayed for just one night in order to attend a works function. The check in was quick and the desk clerk was friendly. The room was an impressive size that offered both a bath and a separate shower. The double bed was in fact two single beds bolted together with single mattresses then covered over with a double sheet & we both remarked in the morning how annoying it was throughout the night slipping between the two mattresses. The breakfast options available are very good, I had a cooked breakfast which seemed tasteless and bland. The swimming pool was a little chilly and the jacuzzi only fired up every now and then and lacked the power to really provide anything other than something to chuckle at and the lockers they provide are annoyingly non responsive. Really well situated in the centre of Cardiff. Collapse

Having stayed at the Holland House Hotel before when it was fairly new and previously had a wonderful time, my wife and I were really looking forward to staying there again. On arrival, we managed to find the very tight car park and a space. The car park is not signposted at all and had I not done some prior research, I'd have never have found the car park at the rear of the hotel. On checking in, one of the receptionists was having an argument with a guest about check in times and whilst I thought the guest was a little out of order, I think the receptionist could have handled the situation better. Our own check in was fine. Our room was nice, comfortable and very spacious. After a late night out in Cardiff, my wife decided that she was hungry and wanted to order a pizza from the hotel bar. We were told that we would have to go to reception to order by room service, which we did. We paid £33 for 2 pizzas which included a service charge, which I thought was very excessive. Once the pizzas arrived, they were the most disgusting pizzas we'd ever tasted, like eating cardboard. The following morning, we were due to check out at midday but at around 10.30am when we were on the verge of leaving, we had a knock at the door and a rather aggressive man from the hotel cleaning team stood there demanding to know what time we would be leaving. I told him it might be another half hour or so but check out wasn't until midday anyway. As we left a few minutes later, the man was standing outside waiting for us to leave and pushed past us at the doorway to get in. Very rude. I mentioned this at reception when checking out but they didn't seem interested. Overall we had a nice couple of days in Cardiff but was disappointed with the hotel and won't be staying there again. We stayed on Friday. Hoping for a pleasant time away. However on leaving the hotel to go out there was a man on security working for a private party who was incredibly rude and aggressive towards me and my colleague. Having informed mercure reception staff I got a lacking response that he was nothing to do with mercure and was not employed by them therefore there was nothing they could do.i have never had a worse experience I. A well known hotel and hasten to say I will never stay with them again. I was informed on leaving that I would have an apology from this man and an email from head office (I am still waiting 4 days later) Collapse

Maria and Ryan on Reception were so hospital on arrival/departure. Room was spotlessly clean and very spacious. (Room 603) Breakfast was amazing. I would'nt stay anywhere else when visiting Cardiff. Spa and pool are also fab.

This is the second time I have stayed at the Mercure for business. Check in is quick and efficient. Car park is underground and is first come first served, £12 for overnight which is very reasonable for Cardiff city centre prices. It’s a little difficult to find even as a local who used to live a mere 5 minutes walk away! But if you are using a sat nav you should be fine. Rooms are as you would expect, if a little tired. Bath and separate shower in my room this time; which I much prefer! Lovely big spacious bar area for evening drinks. Breakfast is a hot buffet and on the mediocre side as it sits for so long. Lovely range of juices. Have also attended this hotel for functions during the day & tend to park in between the hotel & next to the Cardiff uni building. Collapse
