Four of us stayed here for a one night break on 12 May. My wife had asked for a room upgrade for our friends as a surprise for a forthcoming birthday, they were treated to a privilege room which was lovely, clean and spacious and had lovely views overlooking the grounds. We had a normal room which again was clean spacious and had a lovely big comfortable bed. We found the staff to be polite, friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant was excellent but my only criticism was the time between courses and the long delay after being seated until our order was taken. Breakfast was again excellent with a wide choice of hot and cold food. I would recommend this hotel to others but to give it five stars I believe the service in the restaurant needs to be a bit sleeker and a shorter delay between courses. Collapse

The room that we stayed in was beautiful and the bathroom superb except that it was not possible to close the curtains or blinds properly. The setting of the property is superb. There was a wedding on during our visit and this interfered significantly with the service we received particularly in the bar. The breakfast was excellent. Our biggest criticism was the lack of a lift in a hotel of this supposed quality. This was made worse as there was no attempt whatsoever to help getting our luggage to the room. Collapse

We went for dinner here having received a gift voucher for Christmas. The building and grounds are spectacular, an old Georgian Manor House and beautiful gardens. The dining room is oak lined and impressive. We had a pre-dinner drink in the drawing room but had to go to the bar, around 50 yards away, and carry our drinks back! Two menus, a limited table d’hote and a la carte. The fixed price was £25 for two courses but our choices of two courses from the a la carte was £23-50 We went through to our table on time and the waiter came to take drink orders. Time passed before our food orders were taken. I opted for whitebait starter with a duck breast main. We waited around 30 minutes before the starters were served and overheard 3 other tables nearby complaining about the delay. The whitebait was very good and nicely presented, the duck breast was also delicious but my main was spoiled by the asparagus. It was not just too well cooked but was literally soggy. The other members of the party had similar experiences, food generally good but not quite hitting the level you would expect of a restaurant of this type. The main problem was the exceptionally slow service. We were seated for 90 minutes for a two course meal. There was a large party in the next part of the dining room but the hotel should have either ensured there was enough staff to maintain standards or avoided too many table bookings. A highlight was the coffee in the imposing drawing room after the meal. Wouldn’t rush back Collapse

Overall disappointed. The hotel itself is tired and in need of some tlc - but the rooms are clean. Stayed in room 1 where the shower is either freezing cold or boiling hot and the temperature dial is stuck Where the real problem is though is the staff. I can only describe it as the kids were left in charge and it was chaotic. Dinner was a painful experience - forgot to bring the drinks, took far too long between courses and the menu was very limited for vegatarians In the bar, there was only one person serving who was so stressed I felt for him On check out, tried to charge me again for a pre paid stay. I even said I wasnt happy with the stay when asked and got no reaction ... hence taking to trip advisor to give feedback One to avoid if you want good service when you have a break Collapse

I was married here in march 2017 and it was the best experience. Lovely staff and Caroline the wedding co ordinator was brilliant. Had a beautiful day which was made better by the staff being helpful and thoughful. Would highly recommend as a place to get married. We had a large number of guests staying and not one of them had a complaint and one guest forgot his jacket which they kindly sent on to them. Food was also amazing!! Collapse
