Lovely hotel with great facilities and very friendly staff. Although it is 20 minutes walk into the centre, there is a lovely path along the port. Tapas Negra next to the hotel served lovely food and the gelateria near the hotel was also fab. We hired bikes and cycled north along the coast - I'd recommend doing this if it's not too hot! Some Good Points, but Some Really Negative Issues

I stayed here with my Daughter last week, for what has become our annual girls' trip. First impressions are good. The foyer is grand and imposing, and the check in staff were efficient and professional. I was surprised however to be asked up front for the total hotel cost at the beginning of the stay, something that I have never been asked to do, in the many hotels that I have stayed in over the years. I suspect that it's because some people want to immediately check out after the pool side experience, and I can empathise entirely. The rooms.. we had a sea view premium. The room was adequate, but odd. Lots of white melamine type furniture and fittings, but a really nice feature chair that cost more than all the other fittings put together. The shower in the bathroom was obviously going to be a nice feature at the design point, with the longest glass side forming one of the walls of the adjoining bedroom. A nice idea but not really thought out, as there are limits when sharing facilities. The net curtain looks like a peculiar after thought, but preserves modesty and privacy. Our bathroom floor was covered in perfectly nice wood effect laminate spoilt by the grout stains from the tiling. I noticed that the room cleaning transferred long dark hairs onto the white tiling, which is never pleasant. The view from the room however was stunning. The marina in front with the Cathedral in the distance was lovely. We had no problems with noise but the reception were wielding a customer complaint as we checked in, and others around the pool had some noise issues. Breakfast was very very good: coffee and tea service wasn't. Staff either didn't notice us or ignored us and carried on laying tables, or just weren't there. We didn't eat straight after breakfast opened, but we found the breakfast staff non attentive. We ate lunch a couple of days (pool side) and the food was very good. The pool is the real issue here, and for that reason I wont return. Firstly, there is no towel service till 10.00-10.30 am, with the pool roped off until the pool guy arrives. This is too late in the morning for an hotel . As an early riser I watched numerous people sneaking out and putting towels and books on sunbeds and then walking off for a leisurely breakfast or trip to the shops. There are signs all over the pool area stating that it is not allowed to reserve sunbeds, but guests ignore this. It's a good rule, but only as good as the management that enforces it, and the management at this hotel do absolutely nothing. There is a man that hoses down the pool area as this activity is going on. Perhaps a good system would be to delegate responsibility for enforcing this rule to this guy. As the pool area becomes busier, there is scarcely a deck chair or lounger to be had, and then the bun fight begins. As stated by other reviewers, the pool guy does his best, but the reality is that there are not enough sunbeds for guests. There is clearly a lack of concern for the customer experience as there is more than enough room on the terrace to accommodate more sunbeds. There's also a real problem with the drinks service in the pool area. There just aren't enough staff or, as we found on two separate days, the one man servicing the pool area orders, just wasn't very good. The pool area just wasn't relaxing. It kind of sums up this hotel. Stack em high and sell 'em cheap. Problem is that it's not that cheap and it really lets itself down, when it does so many things well or at least to an acceptable standard. Collapse

We stayed at the Melia Palas for a long girls weekend. It's a lovely 2km / 15 mins walk along the front of Palma Bay to the bars and restaurants of the Old Town. The hotel reception team were really welcoming. We arrived on an early flight and left late at night to make the most of our short stay, so it was great to be able to use a complimentary courtesy room to shower and change and to leave our bags safely with reception. The hotel has been refurbished and is modern, clean and spacious. Our room was lovely, with a great shower and a lovely balcony overlooking the pool. We also had a mini fridge which was really handy for bottles of water. There is a small shop right outside the hotel for supplies and if you turn right towards the Gran Melia Victoria there is an amazing ice cream bar! The pool area at the Melia Palas is a sun trap and has brilliant views across Palma Bay to the Cathedral, but it's really frustrating that there aren't enough sunbeds especially because there is plenty of space for more on the terrace. The lifeguard did a great job helping people to find somewhere to sit and moving towels left by people to reserve sunbeds, but they could make it a lot easier by just getting some more sunbeds. It's also very annoying that it's hot from 8:30am but you can't get a towel until after 10am so you can't really go in the pool. Overall I'd always choose a Melia and would definitely recommend the Melia Palas, but a few more sunbeds would make a huge difference. Collapse

Me and my boyfriend stayed here just last week! We were only there for 4 days and wished we had of stayed longer!!! The hotel was just stunning in every way. The pool bar and hotel bar were outstanding! My favourite time of day was in the evening, sitting having a drink at the bar before going for some dinner! The rooms were gorgeous, and we had a lovely balcony to sit on before getting ready for the night!! It just had a lovely calming atmosphere and relaxing feel about the place! As a nurse in the NHS at the minute, it was exactly what I needed from this break! So thank you!!! And as our first holiday as a new couple, I have no doubt we'll be back to make more memories in your hotel! Collapse
It has been refurbished in very modern style - but not what we expected!

The Palas Atenea is in a great location on the bay overlooking the marina with the Catedral dominant in the distance. We have stayed here a lot and liked the old style 'grandeur', though it was starting to get tired. It has had a complete make-over and the bathroom in particular is now glass-walled to the bedroom - but who would want such a thing? Kettle and fridge very welcome. However service was excellent as ever and the view and location made up for the 'style' issue we had! Collapse
