Stayed for 2 nights for a wedding (at another venue). Room clean and large and safe and fridge in room. Nice comfortable bed. Breakfast more than adequate and a special thank you to Tracy in the restaurant who was friendly and welcomed everyone with a smile. Not overly crowded and food hot. All staff in the hotel always acknowledged me with a smile and hello. Would definitely stay again if in the area. Our room was quiet but another wedding traveller could hear other people coming and going as their room was next to the lift so perhaps best to request a room away from the lift if you are a light sleeper Collapse

Arrived at the hotel, no canopy to unload cases if raining, so during the stay did get wet on occasion! Played emerald course, very enjoyable and quite a good standard but the sapphire course was very poor and not recommended for even high handicap golfers, greens VERY poor and tree surgery needed in many places. Evening meal on the ‘package deal’ was good. Breakfast the next day was unbelievable. Arrived for breakfast at 8.30 am. My friend likes white bread and asked for it as there was none visible. He was told there was none, when he expressed surprise and disappointment he was told that we were a bit late for breakfast! On saying that this situation was ‘disgraceful’ a staff member went to the kitchen and gave him a bread wrapper bag with a curled,( no exaggeration ), crust in it! At the 2nd day’s breakfast there was white bread but a vegetarian colleague asked for baked beans, available the previous day, and was told there was none. The replacements at breakfast for items running low e.g. fruit, croissants, was slow and choices limited. It was fried eggs only, no poached or scrambled unless ordered in advance, how would one know this on the 1st day’s breakfast? There was insufficient butter on the tables and there was 1 small cafetière between two rather than 2 small , 1 each. At the buffet breakfast bar on the second day none of the jams were labelled and so one had to test them before deciding which one to have, also the juices were not labelled, but my friend guessed correctly! We felt that the hotel was short staffed. The prices for drinks and sandwiches were very expensive. A round of cheese sandwiches was £7 and ‘home cooked’ ham £8, the ham was NOT home cooked, straight from the packet, thin sliced processed ham. 3 of the party had their sandwiches but the final member of the party did not get his sandwich, (cheese on white bread), for another 15 minutes, after we had all finished. The previous days cream tea was provided for 2 people, one napkin and one knife was offered and another was not forthcoming until requested. Finally, needing to use the gents loo on the final morning was a problem.... both the gents toilets and the disabled were being cleaned at the same time and despite my tee off time being close I had to find a loo downstairs and at the far end of the lounge bar, the seat fell off as I tried to lift and the hand dryer didn’t work despite me reporting it 2 days before and the staff already being aware of it. The bedrooms were just about acceptable but there was no tea or coffee provisions in my room and the shower had copious amounts of black mould around the inside of the shower door in room 323! There did not seem to be any supervisory element to ensure that standards for supposed 4* hotel were maintained. After visiting Macdonald’s hotel near Preston I expected a similar standard, what a disappointment. I will not be returning. Collapse
Extremely expensive and not very clean

We stayed here for 2 nights for a wedding in May. We paid £286 for 2 nights on a room only basis. The only good thing about the room was the slight view of the golf course. I have never stayed in a macdonald hotel before and expected better. The room on arrival was thick with dust, so much so you could run your finger through it. The bed was clearly broken and there were stains under the pillow cases. Bathroom - WOW. I really wanted to have a bath but there was a residue around the plug and generally looked really unclean. The shower was mouldy and full of limescale. I wish I’d take photos like our friends did. Macdonald you really need to up your game! I have seen better and cleaner 3* hotels that cost less than £60 a night! The lobby could do with modernising and the staff could do with smiling more. Collapse
