Lovely hotel in its own grounds with great views of loch and nice walks around the venue including a small waterfall. Staff friendly and helpful. Ate in Rafters restaurant, food great but a little pricey. Breakfast excellent and plenty of choice. Hotel said they didn't know we asked for an upper floor room with a loch view but quickly changed it for us. Room was nice and clean. Road signage from Aberfole poor, the only sign was covered by trees and easy to miss. Spa treatments good though had misunderstood type of treatment included in Super Break deal but again quickly resolved. Pool and Jacuzzi good. Overall a good venue for a relaxing break. Collapse

Have to say we were a little bit disappointed with the lodge we were issued with over the weekend just there. My advice, if you are booking a lodge - request that you are not put in Red Maple block ( I assume the other lodges in this block were similar to ours). When we walked in we were hit with a foosty damp smell and I was shocked at the dated decor and furniture - honestly thought i was sitting in an old folks' home it was so old fashioned. Took a while to heat the place up - one heater was very temperamental in the living room but eventually worked. Downstairs bedroom was very cold. Lots of doors that need propped to stay open - not very toddler friendly. On the plus side, it was very clean and well equipped and the master bed was very very comfy. The hotel grounds are beautiful and there are a few shops, restaurants etc nearby in Aberfoyle - about a 5/10 minute drive. WiFi is really poor in the lodges which didn't bother us so much but just a heads up. We had a lovely relaxing weekend - made good use of the pool facilities which were fab - just feel let down by the standard of lodge we were given considering we paid close to £300 for the weekend for it. Won't be rushing back sadly. Collapse

We stayed at this hotel for a couple of days at the beginning of June. The group consisted of myself, my 2 parents and my 2 children. When I booked it over the phone I was offered full room and board or bed and brekkie. We were using public transit and taxi service to get around so full board seemed best. I booked 2 rooms one for my parents and then one for myself and 2 kids. When booking it I was told there was a wedding on the first night so we would be booked into the Rafters bar for dinner. The second night would be the main dining room. I was also advised that the children’s dinners were not included. Upon arrival we were greeted by the front desk staff. No issues there. They told us that our 2 rooms were not close together (perhaps due to the last minute booking). In fact the 2 rooms were probably at opposite ends of the hotel. No biggie, I could use the extra walking after all the Scottish breakfasts. My room was okay. It was spacious but a little tired looking. It had a King bed and a sofa bed. When booking I was told it would have 2 small beds for the kids and the King. The bathroom was nice and clean. It had one bar of soap, and a bottle of shampoo and shower gel (no conditioner). We walked around the stunning grounds and eventually walked down to the outdoor adventure faculty by the loch. The gates were closed but I spoke to a staff member who advised they closed at 4 pm. It was a beautiful day and I was a little disappointed not to be able to try the kayaking or canoeing for a fee. Okay now it’s dinner time. We were seated for dinner in the bar. It was a limited menu which included items such as fish and chips and bangers and mash. Kids menu was similar. We all ordered an appetizer and a main. The appetizers came quickly enough. And then we waited, and waited and waited. We were finally served out main courses after 2 1/2 hours. By this point my kids were frustrated and sleepy (as were the adults). Other diners seemed to have similar issues. The waitstaff had nothing to do. They were folding napkins and serving drink orders. No food. The maître de was very apologetic but the rest of the staff were apathetic. The next day at breakfast in the main dining room was much the same. Disinterested staff, lengthy wait times and so so food. My mother had to ask 3 different waitstaff for a cup of tea. After breakfast we used the lovely pool facilities and managed to rent kayaks for the loch. Our room was cleaned around 4 pm and again no hair conditioner. I ended up nabbing a bottle from housekeeping’s cart. I’m not sure why it was never placed in the room. As well my parents room was never cleaned. When they complained to front desk they were told they need to put a sign on their door to request housekeeping. There was no such sign I their room. Dinner this evening was much better. It was the same maître de as the night before and he was again very apologetic. He handled most of our dinner and did a good job of it. The food was delicious and we had a nice evening. Other tables received a bread basket but our table was missed. After dinner we had a couple of very expensive drinks at the bar. Checkout day breakfast was much the same as the day before. This time there was no egg cups available with the boiled eggs and soldiers breakfast. As well no butter on the table. I haven’t listed all of the little things that went wrong because believe me there is more. The hotel grounds are beautiful and the food when you can get it was pretty good. For the price I paid I expected more. Also full board only included £25 vouchers per person towards dinner. I ordered duck on the second night which was £26. I wish someone at the hotel had explained that to me while booking or checking in. When checking out I had no idea what bill to expect. My apologies for this lengthy review. We made the best of it but i wouldn’t recommend and I won’t return Collapse

Well what was supposed to be a beautiful resort turned into a nightmare. We had a 2 bedroom condo that was " self-catering", and self-catering is what it ended up being from the day we arrived. The unit wasn't cleaned, the towels and toilet tissue were left outside the door. The master bedroom toilet did not flush and remnants of a prior user remained. Yet we were assured that the unit had been cleaned. After placing 2 calls for maintenance, we came home from a day out to find out that, 1. Maintenance does not work on Sunday, 2. They don't know how to retrieve voicemails. Complained to mgt. who assured us it would be fixed the next day, not! 3 days after arriving the toilet was cleared and fixed. Towel exchange that we requested did not happen. Needless to say, we would NOT recommend EVER booking here. Collapse

We stayed for a 2 night break recently. The hotel is in a beautiful location overlooking the loch with lovely gardens. First impressions were very good, the chap who checked us in was friendly and professional. Our room was very big, with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom could do with a little tlc as looks a bit tired in places, but was clean. The room did have a slight smell of dog. Breakfast really wasn't great. The staff at breakfast seemed very stressed, maybe they were short staffed, but service was very slow and a couple of the waitresses/waiters were not particularly polite. We had cooked breakfasts the first morning, and most of it was cold and the beans were congealed like they had been cooking for hours. Many items on the continental buffet were also running low. The second morning I had porridge which was better. We ate one night in the bar, the food was ok, but expensive for what it was. Because of the poor experience at breakfast we decided not to eat in the Garden restaurant. The receptionist when we checked out wasn't very friendly and did not ask if we had enjoyed our stay. We did use the spa facilities which are nice, although were very busy with children as it was half term. This meant it wasn't particularly relaxing, but our own fault for coming at this time. The floors around the pool and changing rooms were quite dirty, probably due to the footfall. We both had massages which were excellent and the relaxation room is very nice. This could be a fantastic hotel with just a few changes but for the price, it isn't quite cutting it. Collapse
