The hotel is beginning to look tired. Staff on duty in the restaurant serving dinner were very inattentive. I waited quite a while for the wine and water to be served whilst watching staff chatting across the room and then disappearing. I had to remind a member of staff of my request when I was still waiting and then only served one glass whereas I was expecting the water vessel to remain on the table. Collapse

We really enjoyed our two night stay at the Crutherland House. It is set in a lovely location and has a homely and relaxed feel to it. Great leisure facilities. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable and the food very good.We went into Glasgow for the day.Booked a taxi to the train station 5mins from the hotel. The train journey took 20mins. On our return we phoned for a taxi on the train and it was waiting to pick us up and take us back to hotel. We will certainly return to Crutherland House as we really enjoyed our stay. Collapse

Well this is a lovely hotel set in beautiful woodland. Hotel was immaculate. Food was amazing and great value. In the evening the fire alarm was activated which was handled well by the staff, thankfully a false alarm. Later during the night we were woken by constant knocking on the adjacent door room 123. Using the peek hole was a group of young men being entertained by a hooker. Later on around 4am we were still being disturbed by noise this time police officers. Heard them saying it was about an unpaid taxi fare. Two men were lead away by officers. In the morning whilst going to use the facilities ( pool and sauna) the room they had been in was stinking of hash. These people should have been removed from the premises and refused further entry. After breakfast whilst waiting to checkout part of this group were unhappy about a charge for the room. Which yes I agree with the hotel if you damage anything you should pay for repairs. This room will be unusable for a few days. Staff were very attentive our stay was for a birthday which due to a select few who don’t have any regard for other guests and clearly don’t know how to conduct themselves in a hotel these folks in my opinion should be banned. Stayed here 2 nights in May to go to the races at Hamilton Park. I thought the hotel a little tired and our room definitely needed a lick of paint. My husband had paid for a bottle of prosecco on arrival which was not very cold as the ice had completely melted. So it didn’t start off too well when i saw the view I was very disappointed. So we booked a meal in the restaurant which I have to say was excellent. We kept getting extra courses which was a nice touch. Afterwards we went to the bar and ordered 2 double single malt whiskeys which cost £31.50! I checked to see how much both bottles were in my local supermarket and they were both £28 a bottle, which seems very expensive to me. The next day we went to the races and we ordered a taxi through reception but after some time I went to reception to ask how long it was going to be and was told it hadn’t been ordered. We got to the races later than expected. On return from the races we couldn’t get into our room, the key lock mechanism was broken. We were offered to change rooms but decided we would just order room service instead ( which was very good). I can’t fault the food at all. the next day Stacey was very apologetic about the lock being broken, but it wasn’t a big deal. When we went to check out someone had added another bottle of prosecco on the bill which was removed. I was very disappointed about the view because the grounds are lovely. I probably wouldn’t go back but we had a lovely stay regardless. Collapse

The building is lovely from the outside but dated and old fashioned in the inside - especially our room. That being said, the spa facilities were lovely and seemed more modern than the rest of the hotel. Price wise, drinks are pretty extortionate. We accepted this on the basis that it was hotel prices and we were were away for an overnight - but the price tag just doesn't match the drinks or atmosphere that you sit in. There was a function on and the "cocktail lounge" bar seemed generally understaffed as wedding guests spilled through. This caused the managerial staff to be extremely stressed- so much so they were audibly swearing. There were other members of staff kind of milling about who apologised to the waiting guests as they were under 18 and couldn't serve drinks which is obviously not their fault. Food wise, we ate from the special menu and our sirloin steaks were absolutely delicious. Prawn cocktail was mediocre at best with possibly the smallest prawns I've ever seen. We ordered desserts in the bar later on which were very nice - so all in all dining experience balanced out in a sense. Breakfast was tasty with a good selection and room service very prompt. Portion size of the cooked breakfast was small however and the danish pastries were positively bite sized. Breakfast was included in our voucher however, we would not have opted for breakfast at £18 pounds per head giving the portion sizes. With the service we really found it was a mixed bag. The receptionist (Stacey if we remember correctly) was really friendly and welcoming and answered our many questions. However, at dinner we were served by quite an aloof young man who made us feel quite uncomfortable to begin with. We were the first diners to arrive and generally the staff did not seem prepared for service. We sat for nearly 10 minutes without a drinks order or even a menu. The receptionist explicitly said early dining was preferred and we were hungry so assumed this would be ok. As more "mature" dining parties arrived it seemed like other tables were just being treated with more care and attention - unsure if 21 year old couples fir their cliental ideal. We ordered wine well before our main course arrived and as we were just finishing our steaks we were told the wine we wanted wasn't available but we were offered alternatives. We declined as we had just about finished our meal. In all fairness, our drinks were taken off the bill due to the poor service but it just doesn't make for a good dining experience overall. Our room did the job for a night but wouldn't rave about it. No plug sockets next to the beds and only one next to desk. Hairdryer supplied didn't work. Bathroom was nice and beds very comfy with nice bedding. We were allocated a room in the same quarters as the wedding party who naturally became rowdy in the early morning - which is fine - but giving the large size of the hotel I would assume we could have been located to another standard room away from the wedding guests - but wasn't the end of the world. Overall, will not be back as extortionate price tag simply doesn't match the stressed / understaffed service or the dated atmosphere. Whole place seems like it needs organised and needs to employ more staff! Collapse

We booked this hotel because we were in transit to a new destination and needed a reasonably priced overnight stop. I would say that this hotel was ok for that. The hotel is very tired and could do with a revamp. The room carpet was all crumpled possibly due to over cleaning. The view from the room was of the rooftop and pipes. All in all not that luxury. The meal in the bar was at best average and not to be repeated..and expensive. The drink prices were extortionate and the barman was almost embarrassed to give us the final bill. Breakfast in the morning was reasonable but we had to wait a considerable time for the freshly cooked full breakfast. We used the pool facility which we found to be good. The pool is a lovely long pool and you can do lengths without your feet dragging along the bottom of the pool. The extensive grounds of this hotel are well maintained and the staff are quite helpful. However, I doubt if we will be returning any time soon. Collapse

My husband and I got married at the Crutherland in April and the whole experience could not have been nicer. We had the help of a fantastic wedding coordinator, Karen, in the lead up to the weekend who just thought of everything. Over the weekend, the whole experience was flawless. The event itself was fantastically run and coordinated by a wonderful master of ceremony, Shona, and the guests had a great time. We stayed three nights in total and the staff were consistently helpful, friendly, and courteous. The rooms, particularly the honeymoon suite, were clean, comfortable, and spacious and the facilities at the hotel were fantastic, particularly the spa! Wonderful place to stay or have a know event.
