This is our third stay at Cardrona and couldn’t really fault anything with our stay. We had a ground floor golf view room which was spacious, clean and very comfortable. Bathroom was great with a large walk in shower and separate bath. Dinner was delicious, we all had the crayfish starter which was perfect. Followed by duck, beef and lamb which were all beautifully cooked. Desserts were lovely our kids really enjoyed the vanilla cheesecake. Wine is a bit pricey but you expect that when dining in a hotel. Breakfast was good, plentiful and freshly cooked. Leisure facilities are great and the young man on reception was very friendly and cheerful. One observation, the Barman who was serving Friday evening and Saturday could do with some hygiene training. We witnessed him scratching his head then went on to claw at his bum which is off putting considering he is handling glasses and food. Definitely return again. Collapse

Firstly offered a good rate for DBB - great king size bedded room with country views. Settled in and headed to the bar - busy area with lots of guests checking in or trying to find space to sit and enjoy a drink. Given that the majority of guests are couples why are all the seating areas set for four or more. I accept that you could ask to join someone but if you’re a couple you might want to stay that way. There’s plenty of scope to create cosier seating arrangements to suit couples and families alike. Barman was scruffy and disheveled looking with a dire spirit knowledge. Nice selection of gins and given the rise in popularity you’d think that the bar staff would be trained in the style of acceptable serves - 25ml in a huge Gin Coupe glass, 2 cubes of ice and then “we’ve no lime” YES this 99 bedroomed hotel had NO LIMES!! So what better but just offer a skinny slice of lemon or maybe enhance said gin with whatever grabs your fancy -raspberry or cucumber anyone? For a gin that was screaming out for some citrus - I think whatever you’re going to serve at least try to do it properly - barman couldn’t care less and £6.50 for the privilege. On pouring a very cloudy pint of Stella it was questioned but still poured to witness 3 different people take it back but then STILL continued to pour in the hope it would still sell!! REALLY ??? I appreciate that staff at this time of year are in training and the restaurant staff were all quite young but friendly enough. Wine prices are quite steep and why oh why would you open a bottle of £40+ red wine, pour for a guest to then put the screw top back on the bottle - would you put the cork back into a bottle? - wine waiter should know better! Excellent food for dinner and breakfast was also good. We had a normal 11am check out but at 10.05 after returning to the room from breakfast and just starting to pack up there came a knock on the door from housekeeping to ensure that we didn’t overstay - on a Sunday do you really need to chase guests out - needless to say we packed and left with haste. Overall a nice stay but some of your more senior staff should have a rethink of the company’s acceptable appearance and service guidelines that they seemed to be instilling into the young trainees. So, this is our second visit and I’m kicking myself for not leaving positive feedback the first time. Both rooms we’ve had have been spacious, well equipped, spotlessly clean with amazing views in both directions. I’ve seen some comments about heating, rooms were warm and boosting with the wall heater is simple and heats up very quickly. Lovely Elemis toiletries, crystal water glasses, feather pillows and quilts, the nice touches keep coming. We did have an issue with the tv not working. Mentioned it to Mo, the receptionist who checked us in, but told him we weren’t bothered, don’t have a tv at home so it wouldn’t worry us, but wanted them to know for whoever’s in the room after us. Within ten minutes he came to find us to tell us it was fixed. Disappointed we couldn’t get into the spa this time, fully booked, last time we were here John showed us around all of the facilities, arranged coffee, sorted us out treatment appointments (I’m so sorry I can’t remember the name of the therapist) and I swear it was the best massage I ever had. We still got in a sauna, steam and swim today, then the child gave herself a gym session while I wandered the beautiful golf course after dark. The food’s been exemplary, it’s not cheap, but beautifully cooked and presented, definitely worth treating yourself! (I’m a chef and a tricky customer!) The breakfast choice is so wide, we took a good hour grazing and sipping coffee looking out over the views this morning and can’t wait for tomorrow! We’ve been passing housekeeping staff in the hallways all day, it’s a hard job and a big, very clean hotel so they seem to be working endlessly, but not a single one has not greeted us with a genuine smile and a greeting. Thanks to a hard working team for another lovely stay, can’t wait to come back. Collapse

We had a golf view room which was exactly that, a great view across the golf course and over the hills. Beautiful sunrise. Clean, huge bed with extra beds enough for up to 3 children along with their parents. Limited television channels (bbc, itv and Ch 4 and 5), but there is a pool, spa, golf course, walks and cycle routes with 2 bars for afters! The restaurant was great both for evening meals and breakfasts. The staff were polite, friendly and efficient. I found my stay very relaxing and would recommend to anyone looking for a lovely time away from home. Collapse

We had a 2 night stay with dinner on the first night. Our room (203) was spacious but some dust and a few hairs in the bathroom. Large patio doors overlook the road and car park but no blinds or net curtains so everyone can see right in unless you close the curtains. The bar is fine with a good selection but despite there being plenty of staff no table service offered and worse no empty glasses cleared during our visits. Disappointing for a 4 star hotel. One member of bar staff has a very loud voice and some conversations were not appropriate for guests to hear! Dinner was good and we enjoyed the food but it was rushed and the table layout in rows mean you are very close to other diners. On our second night there was a pug dog at the table next to us in the bar. I appreciate the hotel allows dogs but I don’t feel they should be allowed in f&b areas and I found it quite off putting. Breakfast was adequate but the hot food was quite greasy, sausages were cold on the first day and scrambled eggs looked quite disgusting. We found reception staff helpful and overall we did enjoy our stay but the hotel could make a improvements that would make staying more enjoyable. Collapse
