We stayed at the Burlington Hotel in the centre of Birmingham because of its convenient location. The hotel was spacious and clean but rather shabby and really wasn't great value for money. The curtains were half hanging down, and had burn marks where people had clearly been smoking out of the window. We paid for room only as there are many eating places nearby. The drinks were expensive too; £14 for 2 glasses of mediocre wine. Next time I will probably stay at one of the newer hotels. Collapse

Saw the break advertised in the autumn and as my wife is a Strictly devotee I thought what a wonderful Christmas present if we add another day. Cleared the idea by phone with the hotel and booked the night before direct, assured all would go to plan but when we arrived and were told at reception we had only the first night reserved stress levels soared! The first night was booked and not paid for yet the second night with Strictly Tickets was paid for in September last year. After eventually sorting out the problem we were advised SuperBreak and The Burlington Hotel's systems do not communicate, not really my problem that but the stress caused when booking became so. A case of acts being got together maybe? Collapse

We stayed on Saturday 21st April, the second time we have been. The reception staff were friendly and efficient. The room was on the third floor but was spacious and clean and unlike last time the air conditioning and television worked! But dinner in the restaurant was made special in no small part to Jonathan who went out of his way in his service to ensure we had a perfect meal. He was friendly and humorous without being overbearing. Truly a valuable employee!! The only down side to that night was being woken up in the early hours of Sunday morning by the fire alarm!!! I know it was not the fault of the hotel staff ( who performed with professionalism in a difficult situation) but it was no fun standing in the street in your night clothes!! However the annoying thing with our room was that every time we went back to it the key would not work. My husband had to go down three times to reception to get it sorted. The last time up and down three flights stairs twice after the all clear ( as we could not use the lift in an emergency.) I would suggest that this is looked at as I don't believe it was as it was kept near a mobile phone as suggested. We did not have the breakfast at the hotel because of the the bad service and food we experienced last time. Decided to go to Cherry Reds (separate review) Overall though we enjoyed our stay and would return. Collapse

Stayed one night and can't really fault the hotel. Service and facilities were excellent, although we did have to wait a little while for one of our rooms to be ready for us. The staff were friendly and helpful, the building is stunning and well maintained. The rooms were spotless, comfortable and we equipped. It's in a perfect location, right by New Street Station, and central for all the city has to offer. Unfortunately a fire in the bar (not part of the hotel) in the basement caused an evacuation at around 1.00 a.m., but the staff were calm and handled the situation well. A late breakfast and checkout was provided to make up for the disturbance, which was kind considering the fire was not even in the hotel building. Breakfast was ample, plenty of cold, continental options, the hot food left a little to be desired - a rather sad, overcooked poached egg, and soggy mushrooms, cold toast and ice-cold solid butter, but still not something that would put me off visiting again. Overall a great stay, in a beautiful hotel which I would definitely visit again. Collapse

We stayed here sat 21st April. First impressions of the hotel were good. Reception area nice. Staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed in room 330. We got changed quickly and went out as we checked in late. On coming back to our room that when I noticed things. The towels were dirty ( see picture) the room itself was shabby and in need of tlc. I pulled the quilt of of the bed as it was tucked under the mattress and yet again it was dirty (see picture) I can safely say I had the worst nights sleep I’ve ever had. The bed was so uncomfortable and dipped in the middle. The pillows were like pancakes they were that flat. Breakfast was fine nothing special. Would I recommend this hotel or stay here again?? No I wouldn’t unless there was some major improvements made. Collapse
