An average room but pathetic WiFi despite claims the router was nearby. Food varied enormously. Very capable chef when pressed. Room service breakfast was disappointing with the presence for example of 'one mushroom', come on , do I have to say how many I want in the same way as eggs. Breakfast in the restaurant was better and buffet style which cooked to order options. The layout of the hotel is a little odd but in keeping with an old property. Some rooms are a good 2 minute brisk walk to reception. There appeared to be issued with heating in some rooms with stand alone radiators which made little difference. Staff are helpful and some are excellent but the hotel struggles to cope when it's busy. Room tips: ask at check-in how far your room is and if the heating is working in that room? Collapse

We have come for a girls' weekend 3 out of the last 4 Januarys. We love the place for the setting (green, relaxed), for the outdoor plunge pool (best ever!), the food - really very good -, the spa, the treatments and the staff. This year Arianna on Reception and Didier in Dining kept us smiling and happy! The food was great and service excellent. Treatments were nice but shorter than before. My friends praised the male massage therapist! Rooms on our floor were small, with very tight bathrooms, and there has been a refurbishment which means spa is looking smart. Clean and welcoming. We look forward to our next visit. Collapse

This place is beautiful but the service was terrible. They messed up our reservation on arrival, telling us we had no booking - we did have one! We got to our room and the toilet was broken, when we reported it we were informed ‘it takes a while to fill’ - the handle was spinning 360 degrees! It was broken. We were eventually moved to another room once we had waited ages to be moved. Then we tried to get a drink in the bar where there was one member of staff and several residents complaining about how long they having to wait for service. When we complained to reception, they told us that someone had phoned in sick! Terrible service. Beautiful place. Would not recommend. Collapse

We stayed for 2 nights for our anniversary. The hotel was nice, the ground were cute. Lots of areas to go outside in the summer and could imagine being nice to sit outside with a glass of wine. We enjoyed our spa treatments, however they weren’t the full 55 minutes we paid for; more 35 minutes. The drinks were reasonably priced, the bar area was cute and relaxing. The bar/restaurant manager was amazing and really welcoming. He went out his way every time we saw him. I wouldn’t say the same for all the staff, as a young couple we felt like they didn’t respect us. At the end of the day, our money is as good as anyone elses. When we asked questions at the reception, they reacted as if it was a silly question. Not everything we payed for in our package was arranged or given. Only small things like our bottle of Prosecco in our room and the rode and slippers weren’t given too. The food was nice, the dinning area was relaxing and romantic. We had the afternoon tea as we were there, which was nice and just the right size. The room was nice, bathroom does need some work. There was mould on the roof and paint falling off the wood work. The bedding was put on inside out. The bed was very hard and uncomfortable. Other than that the room was clean. We would question staying there again. They were small things but added up. Collapse

Taking a family anywhere is stressful - the kids want WiFi, good food and a place to explore and work off their energy while adults usually seek a bar, cosy rooms and a spa, pool or hot tub to relax in. The Berystede has all this and more. The full English breakfast each morning is a great start to your day. The bar food was varied and reasonably priced. The large indoor pool is great for families with kids & the spa and gym are great for adults. Our whole experience was outstanding from our arrival right through to our departure on Boxing Day. The warmth and friendliness of the staff, the welcome, the detailed planning and attention to detail for the Christmas dinner celebrations was especially excellent & staff worked very efficiently. Yes the rooms are slightly smaller than other hotels and there are creaking floorboards but this is all part of its Victorian appeal. Our stay was certainly enjoyable and our Christmas very memorable. I’m sure we will be back again soon ! Collapse
