We booked this hotel as it was the closest to Ascot. Only stayed overnight in a twin room with my colleague. Unfortunately, didn't really get to use the hotel facilities as much as I would of liked to - the spa in particular. The room was basic - nothing overly special, bathroom was exceptionally small but for a one night stay you can't really complain. The bar area is only open until 1am unless it is busy - or so we were told. The hotel is like a maze especially after a couple of drinks at Ascot I couldn't find my room for a good 20-30 minutes...so many stairs and corridors. Check out is at 11am & breakfast you need to pay for unless you already booked it. Hotel staff were really friendly and nice. If I ever find myself going to Ascot again I will make sure to book this hotel. Collapse

2 nights stay in another Macdonald which could have been better. On arrival, we were warmly welcomed by staff at the reception, the entrance was clean and the grounds green. Having been to other Macdonalds in the past, I can see similar issues at Berysted. Our room was spacious, we booked one with the largest bed. However it was quite dark and still looked dark even when the lights were on. The furniture looks tired, stains on cushions, no bedroom bin, moths flying around, dirty window sill etc Mould in the shower, flimsy toilet seat, no toilet brush, stained bath robe and old towels. I would expect to find these in a 2 star hotel but not 4. At dinner, again we had good service from the staff and the food was delicious. The sun came right through where we were sat almost blinding us but when we asked to pull the blinds down we were told that it was stuck and the staff kindly apologised. Breakfast am afraid was a disaster on both mornings. Had to call back for toasts, coffee and some other stuff that we initially ordered but were not on our tray. The spa was good. We enjoyed the pool and relaxing in the gardens. It is very disappointing. I think it’s big time for refurbished bedrooms and bathrooms at Macdonalds and also better coordination Sadly I would not recommend it for the price. Collapse

A number of my friends visited the Berystede Hotel for an afternoon tea as part of a Hen Do. Despite having ordered and advised our dietary requirements months in advance when the waiting staff came to give us our food no one seemed to be able to advise us which food was which and this is very serious when there was a Coeliac in the group and others who had severe dairy/wheat and egg intolerances. Several times we had to ask the staff which was which, and they went back to the kitchen numerous times to ask but each time came back none the wiser. The staff were quite rude and just expected us to take whatever we were given despite them not knowing if the food was correct or not. I asked to speak to the manager and the staff were not keen on letting us speak to her. When she finally turned up we complained to her and she was very standoffish and we were told that the waiting staff had only just started working at the Berystede in the last few days. Quite clearly their training is not adequate and I am concerned about how seriously the Berystede takes the issue food allergies and the impact on the health of their customers. The afternoon tea is around £22 per person so it not cheap and I would expect better service from a MacDonald Hotel. To add insult to injury they tried to charge us for 8 people instead of the 7 people we had. They certainly didn't get paid a tip! Collapse

Myself and a number of work colleagues spent close to a week at the Berystede while attending a trade show, so I had some time to observe the hotel’s pluses and minuses. On the positive side, the location is very good. It is convenient to Heathrow, Ascot, Windsor and surrounding attractions. The Hotel is located a 15-20 minute walk, depending on your speed, from the small town of Sunninghill, which has some excellent restaurants and pubs, and about 40-60 minute walk to Ascot. Hotel grounds are pleasant, with lawns and some small wooded areas and there is good parking. I did not use the spa or health facilities, but heard good things about them from other guests. The room was clean, and housekeeping was both pleasant and very hardworking, (I know, because I walked in while they were cleaning and they were really cleaning well, not just going through the motions). On to the negative. The hotel owners need to take a hard look at the level of customer service that they are offering and need to invest in updating their computer system. This hotel has some real service problems, which I will detail below. The actual food at the restaurant was fine, but the service was so comically abysmal, that it was an actual source of entertainment. Each day my colleagues and I would compare notes on who had so gotten the worst or most surly service at breakfast. For example: a manager or sub manager audibly yelled at a server “ Why you sit them down?” pointing at a group “The restaurant closes in an hour” You could generally expect your dishes to be lifted up from under you as you ate in the staff’s eagerness to clear tables and be rid of customers and your chances of getting your tea or coffee before the end of the meal were 50/50. Several times during the afternoon, when the restaurant was posted as open, patrons were shooed into the bar to eat. I got the distinct impression the restaurant’s biggest desire was to avoid serving customers. It was frequent enough to be funny. The front desk would have to find staff. There is one really good server, she did her best, but the rest were rude with very poor English skills or, I think, the pretense at having poor English skills. The gentleman working the bar most nights is courteous and professional but his fill ins act like pouring a customer a beer is a hardship. Similarly, the service at the front desk is also very patchy. I received both top-notch service, from two of the managers and truly incompetent and rude service from several others. Once again, in some cases, English was a problem and the front desk continually had to apologize for how slow the computer system was. Not a good combination: poor English and slow computer system. At one point the computer system even went down, which meant the front desk could not check people in or even create keys. As the hotel rooms’ electricity, annoyingly, depends on a key card, they could let you in the room, but the minute they left, the lights would go out. The manger tried his best, but it was a complete mess and at least one of his colleagues was undermining everything, haughtily acting as if it were the guest faults that they had showed up when the system was down; very unhelpful to guests put in to an unpleasant situation. Luckily I got in before the chaos, but my colleagues reported that their keys were problematic for days. Several were so angry they nearly left, and would have if other local hotels were not fully booked. The distance from front of hotel to many of the rooms can be quite a hike for those with mobility problems. Not an issue for me, but to be considered when making a reservation. The air conditioning is ineffectual, but the windows do open and it is quiet enough at night to be pleasant. I did not experience many problems with hall noise, but the hotel is popular for “Girls weekends” and bachelorette parties so it may be down to luck. Because it is a spa, expect to see people lolling about in bath robes in the lobby and elsewhere. It adds to the comedy. Now having painted this negative picture, I want to commend one employee who redeemed the hotel in my eyes. Myra at the front desk was excellent. She provided professional, pleasant, thoughtful and efficient service that would be exemplary in the finest 5-star. She always remembered my name and my colleagues names and went out of her way to actually help on every occasion, for example, when a colleague of mine who suddenly needed to extend his stay, despite the hotel being full, she went out of her way to help. I hope the Berystede knows that she is a gem. As surprising as it may be based on my review, I would stay at the hotel again. The location is great, rooms were clean, parking easy, and the nearby town has some good restaurants. Just be prepared for an extreme mix when it comes to service. Collapse

We stayed for a family celebration and in terms of the event itself I really couldn't fault it. The staff were excellent, particularly Chris who made sure everything went smoothly, and the food was really good quality for a lunch of 50+ covers. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and for that I am really grateful to Chris and the team. The hotel itself on the other hand I found a bit disappointing. I don't know if it's because I had brought my dog (a definite plus) but the room was really tired and dirty. Maybe they give the worst rooms to those with s dog or maybe they're all like that, but the shower was mouldy and the clip to hang the shower head on was broken so you had to hold it over yourself. The toilet was really smelly and the robes threadbare, also the wardrobe was missing a door! Breakfast was a shambles, the buffet area is squashed right in the corner of the restaurant and on the main route to the kitchen, so there's a constant clash between guests wanting to get their breakfast and servers wanting to get into the kitchen. We asked for tea and coffee 3 times and it never arrived so we left it in the end. The food however was good. I don't think I'd go out of my way to stay here again however would recommend it for a function or event. Collapse
