I had a lovely break in the Lion Quays Hotel Oswestry a couple of years ago and was looking forward to going back again. However this time our room was directly above the area where they kept the peacock who was extremely vocal. (I was not aware of it on my previous stay). Also the same said peacock was free to wander around the hotel grounds which totally freaked me as I have a bird phobia and if anyone else has this problem, this hotel is one to be avoided! Collapse

Very pleasant hotel with spa facilities. Typical of larger hotels it felt a little impersonal. But it was a good hotel, no real grumbles. However, on checking out there seemed to be a failure to understand that I had already paid for my stay through Superbreak and wanted to charge me again. All cleared up once I showed receipt sent by Superbreak to me. My advice bring a copy with you. This was quickly sorted out. Yes I would stay again. Collapse

Visited with friends and family for a semi social/business function and found it to be in a fabulous setting, quite modern with friendly efficient staff. The rooms are clean and comfortable but are quite small in comparison to a lot of hotels. There is a good selection of drinks at the bars and the food served at the function was very good. Would like to revisit just with close family. Collapse
Fabulous room. Terrific pool. Atrocious dinner.

From the warm welcome at check-in to the classy newly refurbished room with a view (and a balcony), to the large swimming pool perfect for laps, our experience at the very attractive Lion Quays wedding and spa hotel was perfect in every way. The rooms were very well appointed and while the bathroom was very small it had everything we needed. There were two comfy chairs and a coffee table at the wee balcony door which we opened each evening and enjoyed a glass of wine as the sun went down. There's even a safety deposit box and an iron should you need them. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff! Breakfast each morning was taken in the adjoining Waterside restaurant, a smart place with al fresco seating alongside the canal and boat moorings. It would be a perfect setting for a wedding! Breakfast was decent enough though the plates were cold and the hashbrowns soggy - not surprising when you pop a lid on top and let them steam. It's not rocket science. We enjoyed a few drinks in the bar on our first night then chose fish finger, crushed peas and tartare sandwiches from the main menu for a tenner. To be fair the menu made no claim that the fish would be freshly cooked in homemade batter, it was my own expectation that this would be the case, as it is the norm in most pubs these days and this restaurant boasts an AA listing. And it wasn't a cheap children's menu. What arrived looked and tasted like thin Birds Eye frozen fish fingers. Unfortunately they were cold and possibly not even cooked through. We sent back our sandwiches having both spat out the first mouthful. The manager who said he agreed that the fish fingers were cold promised he'd take the sandwiches off the bill, and we duly and gracefully accepted his apology without a big fuss. Its easy to lose faith in a kitchen that can't even cook a frozen fish finger so we declined any replacement and went without. Not an ideal end to a lovely day, but we were prepared to move on and not make a fuss. Thank goodness they'd put biscuits on our room coffee tray. On checking out guess what? Those darned cold fish finger sandwiches were still on our bill. It's a shame all the great work the hotel staff put in to making our stay so lovely was slightly marred by the tardy operation in the both the restaurant and bar. Hotel and spa highly recommended! More photos to follow. Tip: if you wish to visit and walk the nearby Chirk Aquaduct, try and do it before checking in to the hotel, as turning right on leaving the hotel can be a nightmare. It's well worth a visit as is the cafe where you park for it (beside Chirk Police Station). Hope that was useful. Collapse

My husband and I stayed here for a night. Check in from 3pm. Room was a good size with an extremely comfortable bed. Good size tv, excellent tea/coffee facilities, ample luggage & hanging space. Bathroom small but clean and plenty of hot water, need to provide shower caps tho as the shower head is fixed high. Bit dated as it has a shower curtain rather than a screen. Only one towel provided even tho there were two of us in the room. Reception later informed me that spare towels are in the wardrobe!I would suggest setting up the room for the correct number of people i.e. 2 towels for two people! Breakfast was excellent, self service with cereals and hot breakfast. Nice ambience in the restaurant. All staff that I met were very polite and helpful! Ample parking. Note that the hotel is at the far end of the driveway, first building is spa/leisure facilities. Collapse

We stayed at this hotel to be with friends for a motoring weekend so didn't make use of the leisure facilities. On the whole the hotel was good, but they only have three disabled parking spaces, one of which was taken up by a non-disabled vehicle. The receptionist, Haley, was excellent and even carried our bags. The room was large and comfortable, and the bathroom was also large, but it was all a little dated. We had pre-booked our dinner choices and the waiting staff coped with the multiple orders very well and everyone was served the correct meals and together. The food was well cooked and presented. Breakfast was buffet style, but hot and plentiful. We enjoyd our stay, but didn't think it was quite 4* Collapse

Work colleagues and I were doing a store refit down the road and chose this hotel for convenience. We arrived just after check in, and I have to admit the signage isn't great. We initially parked down by the spa, then walked to check in at what was the conference room, only to have to ask for directions. There was really no clear signage that said hotel parking this way. On arrival check in was super easy, rooms close together which was handy. I had booked double rooms, which I had made the mistake of assuming it was two double beds when it was just the one. Staff on reception changed one room to a twin room for us no problem. Sleep came easy as we'd had a late night working, but the bed was super comfy. Breakfast was divine, I really liked the options they had and everything tasted really good. My only issue, and frankly it's the same in most hotels nowadays is the coffee comes out of a machine, and it just tastes horrid. I had dinner in the restaurant that night, and we got a table no problem and chose to sit in the conversation which turned out to be a huge mistake as we were pretty much forgotten. You can't catch anyone's eye, so you're pretty much left waiting. The guy at the table in front, received his dessert when we sat down, when he finished he waited for someone to come and clear his plate but nobody came. He was ignored by staff twice, who served tables in front of him but didn't look back. He then got up and headed to the bar himself. This was a similar story for us, the food was lovely Chicken Wings with dip and a Carbonara was delicious. The garlic bread portion was large, but needed to be for the price. We ordered two different gins, for a first round of drinks, and then I re-ordered my orange gin after mains. However we were brought the gin my dinner guest had originally ordered, one I didn't favour, so the drink had to be remade. We approach the bar to settle the tab as it was clear staff were basically cleaning around us at this point. My only quip, is that I left a ring box in my room. I phoned up on my return home and a lady at reception took my details and I was informed I would get a call back before the end of the day. This didn't happen, i have since rang twice and spoke to two different people who have said the exact same despite me telling them it never happens, and I haven't had a call back. The box isn't sentimental in anyway, but it's useful for storing my rings when i'm asleep. The fact I keep being promised a call back, and not getting one is frankly rude. Collapse
