We arrived about 4pm in the Friday, we had a short wait at Reception before check-in. We were given a room in the Mulberry block, double room 2nd floor. We noticed the draw safe wasn't working and mentioned this to Reception after dinner as we didn't notice it wasn't working until we went to dinner at 7.15pm. We were asked to return to the room and some one would come and take a look. We waited 11/2 hours and nobody came so we gave up and went back to the Reception and were given another card to try. We had a couple of drinks at the bar and went back to the room just before midnight. The new card made no difference, the draw wouldn't lock. We gave up until the morning. We pulled back the quilt to get into bed and there was a stain in the sheet. I didn't want to sleep in the bed but had no choice as Housekeeping weren't going to change it until the next morning. We had a treatment booked at 10.00 my husband was called first at 10.00, I was called just after 10.00. I was asked 2 questions and the massage started about 10.07 and I was given a cup of water at 10.22. This was not acceptable for a 30 minute treatment at £45. I complained and was given a facial at 2.30 which lasted 30 minutes. We also had to request different robes as the ones in the room on arrival smelt awful, a really unpleasant oily smell. We went back to the room early evening and the sheet still hadn't been changed and the drawer would still not lock. We complained to Reception again and by the time we checked out on Sunday at approx 11.45 the sheet was never changed. I complained on check-out but we were only offered a £50 voucher towards another stay which binds you having to stay again even if you may not want to because of all the dissatisfaction. We should have been given £50 off our bill. We are not happy at all. Collapse

The stay was lovely and relaxing and the hotel food and restaurant was very good. So many great points to this place with just a few issues that let it down a bit. In the pool area no-one was checking around, so the drinking water ( that was really lovely with fresh lemon and orange) was allowed to run out, towels ran out, locker bins were overflowing. Such a shame that a few minor, easily resolved issues spoilt an otherwise lovely place. Having said that I would definitely go again, and the surrounding grounds were stunning. I had the most fabulous massage as well, quite expensive but worth it. Collapse

On arrival we found the building to be impersonal, lacking in personality & lack of direction signs. Staff were friendly and polite. Booking in process was simple. Rooms were of a good proportion and clean. Very pleased to see that tea and coffee making facilities also water that was supplied free of charge. Beds were very firm. Spa and pool area didn't feel conducive to relaxation and needs a revamp. Nice to find they had a quiet room/relaxation room sadly it was adjoining a main corridor with therapy treatments were taking place and as people walked along the corridor talking loudly this disturb the quietness. Bar area is nice and bright seating could be more comfortable. Cream tea was well worth the money and a must do! Restaurant food was of a very high standard & portions were of a good size. Changing rooms didn't appear to be connected to the main pool area as we found out we had to walk across the reception area to get changed, we may have missed a connecting door but there were no signs to say which way to go from the pool. It was only when asking a member of staff they pointed out a doorway with the letter 'M' on a plate by the side of the door that they identified this was the male changing room. Collapse

My girlfriend and I had a couples spa experience for her birthday in June for 2 nights complete with 1 complimentary 3 course meal for 2 and full English breakfast for each day of our stay. Haven't stayed at this particular spa before but having read generally favourable reviews and going by the website we decided to give Lifehouse a go. Things didn't get off to the best of starts when we discovered a few days after booking that we had been booked into a disabled room. When ringing to enquire as to why this was the case the lady on the phone said it was because we must have selected it while booking online however looking back at the website there is no option to request a disabled room you actually need to ring up and ask reception especially. We then went on to discover that all the rooms in our requested tier were full so we could either put up with the disabled room or upgrade to the next tier which had plenty of rooms available at a cost. We chose to upgrade on this occasion but it left a rather unpleasant feeling going in. Why lie and tell us it was our mistake? Upon arrival we were very excited the buildings all looked very smart and the surrounding grounds, gardens and ponds were lovely. We checked in to be given a very speedy briefing on the facilities and where our room was while filling in a few standard hotel forms. The hotel staff should really be more attentive because for the uninitiated Lifehouse can be a bit of a maze and with all the narrow winding corridors and conference rooms nestled among the hotel suites it isn't the most straightforward place to navigate when carrying all your bags. We didn't use the spa on the first day we arrived a little later we found our room eventually and took a walk around the gardens, the surroundings really are beautiful, there's plenty of wildlife around as well but a word of warning there are geese and duck droppings literally everywhere! Pretty unpleasent and does put a dampener on the aesthetic. Our room was fine. Just fine considering the earlier upgrade we paid for, it has all the basics was bright and tidy. The bed linen and pillows however looked clean but had a really strange musky smell to them was rather off putting and disappointing especially when having to pay more. Dinner came around booked 7pm for our complimentary 3 course meal. The restaurant staff were a lot more friendly and welcoming than the bar staff we'd encountered earlier in the day. We were shown to our table and given menus. There wasn't a lot of variety to choose from and what was there was expensive. No complaints about the meal it was very enjoyable and served quickly, it had all gone so well, until to our utter bemusement we were presented with a bill for our 'complimentary 3 course meal' just under £30. Included in the bill were drinks which I was prepared to overlook but remainder was for additional 'supplements' added to the main meal but we hadn't asked for any. The waitress tried her best to explain she didn't seem to clear on what counted as a supplement either. Having quite enjoyed the meal and not wanting to cause a fuss we paid but did not return for dinner the following night. Very cheeky and misleading of Lifehouse taking one of the key selling points of the 2 day package the free meal and trying to catch you out with hidden costs very unimpressed. The following day started with breakfast back at the restaurant again, nothing to pay this time when they say the breakfast is free they actually mean it. Everything nicely laid out in a self service buffet style. Nice relaxed atmosphere would recommend going in earlier when it's quieter around 8-8:30am. The food was average not the quality you'd expect in high quality spa. The heating facilities used to keep the food 'hot' needs turning up a fraction your food comes out warm and 5-10mins after being on your plate is at room temperature and pretty unpalatable. I gave them the benefit of the doubt assuming they were having an off day but it was the same story on the second day as well. I ended up leaving a lot on the plate. We made our way into the spa early it was quiet so got a seat by the jacuzzi but it quickly started filling up shortly after and it was clear that not everyone was going to get a seat. The loungers you lie on by the pool area are awful like laying on concrete thankfully there were plenty of towels around to pad the seat out with but very uncomfortable. The Saunas, Steam rooms and pools are all really close together and everyone seems like they are tripping over one another even on a weekday which you would assume would be quieter. For the volume of guests using the facilities they definitely need to consider expanding the pool and spa area, its just not big enough and looks rough around the edges on closer inspection. The spa treatments we received were very good, best part of the trip. Lovely professional staff make you feel very comfortable and do a brilliant job, leaving you feeling very refreshed and relaxed afterwards, couldn't praise them enough. We didn't go back to the restaurant again for dinner that evening but there are plenty of good local restaurants around the Thorpe le Soken area with more variety and more competitive prices. On our final morning as we were on our way to Breakfast we were met by a whole team of contractors, very noisy carrying in a load of tools, equipment and furniture leaving the corridors piled high with new fancy fittings and televisions to go into rooms we were staying in. I'd assume they would have started work after we had checked out at 12 but no they were already starting to work on the surrounding rooms around ours making noise and causing commotion it was just another added annoyance and it also left me feeling like we were the last ones to use the rooms with all the old rubbish before the rooms got a much needed lift. Not a good impression to leave your paying guests with not to mention for anyone trying sleep after they arrived. On the whole it was a complete mixed bag the treatments at Lifehouse really were great and I would highly recommend them, the grounds and setting really is lovely the ideal spot to come and unwind. Just about everything else however was either average or pretty underwhelming and for the money we paid, thats just not good enough. I would recommend maybe just coming for the day and having a treatment, the package we had however simply wasn't worth the money and I'm pretty disappointed. I wouldn't rule out returning to Lifehouse but I wouldn't be rushing back anytime soon. Collapse

This was not our first visit here as I have been once before and my wife several times. I would say that generally speaking, this is a good hotel but standards seem to have slipped since o ur first visit. The spa is very good and the treatments my wife had were excellent. The evening meal, included in our package was also very good with a reasonable amount of choice and excellent food. However, the stay was let down by terrible service at lunch the next day when waitresses seemed to actively avoid the customers and we had to wait for ages to be served. The breakfast is now buffet style and everything was luke warm at best with tough sausages and bacon. Rooms were also let down by badly designed toilets (too low) and showers that you had to reach through the spray to turn or off. However, the rooms were of decent size and very clean. Collapse

My wife visited the Spa here a few weeks ago with a good friend and she had a back massage and facial on a day visit deal that included lunch for £89.00 so can not comment on the hotel rooms. She enjoyed it at the time and felt very refreshed afterwards. Spent rest of the day around the pool area. It was a lovely day spent with a good friend in relaxing surroundings. She has since been to another spa with me, and able to compare them and she says that one wasn't a patch on the Lifehouse Spa. She says she would return here again, but not with me! Collapse
