We arrived about 4pm in the Friday, we had a short wait at Reception before check-in. We were given a room in the Mulberry block, double room 2nd floor. We noticed the draw safe wasn't working and mentioned this to Reception after dinner as we didn't notice it wasn't working until we went to dinner at 7.15pm. We were asked to return to the room and some one would come and take a look. We waited 11/2 hours and nobody came so we gave up and went back to the Reception and were given another card to try. We had a couple of drinks at the bar and went back to the room just before midnight. The new card made no difference, the draw wouldn't lock. We gave up until the morning. We pulled back the quilt to get into bed and there was a stain in the sheet. I didn't want to sleep in the bed but had no choice as Housekeeping weren't going to change it until the next morning. We had a treatment booked at 10.00 my husband was called first at 10.00, I was called just after 10.00. I was asked 2 questions and the massage started about 10.07 and I was given a cup of water at 10.22. This was not acceptable for a 30 minute treatment at £45. I complained and was given a facial at 2.30 which lasted 30 minutes. We also had to request different robes as the ones in the room on arrival smelt awful, a really unpleasant oily smell. We went back to the room early evening and the sheet still hadn't been changed and the drawer would still not lock. We complained to Reception again and by the time we checked out on Sunday at approx 11.45 the sheet was never changed. I complained on check-out but we were only offered a £50 voucher towards another stay which binds you having to stay again even if you may not want to because of all the dissatisfaction. We should have been given £50 off our bill. We are not happy at all. Collapse

The stay was lovely and relaxing and the hotel food and restaurant was very good. So many great points to this place with just a few issues that let it down a bit. In the pool area no-one was checking around, so the drinking water ( that was really lovely with fresh lemon and orange) was allowed to run out, towels ran out, locker bins were overflowing. Such a shame that a few minor, easily resolved issues spoilt an otherwise lovely place. Having said that I would definitely go again, and the surrounding grounds were stunning. I had the most fabulous massage as well, quite expensive but worth it. Collapse

On arrival we found the building to be impersonal, lacking in personality & lack of direction signs. Staff were friendly and polite. Booking in process was simple. Rooms were of a good proportion and clean. Very pleased to see that tea and coffee making facilities also water that was supplied free of charge. Beds were very firm. Spa and pool area didn't feel conducive to relaxation and needs a revamp. Nice to find they had a quiet room/relaxation room sadly it was adjoining a main corridor with therapy treatments were taking place and as people walked along the corridor talking loudly this disturb the quietness. Bar area is nice and bright seating could be more comfortable. Cream tea was well worth the money and a must do! Restaurant food was of a very high standard & portions were of a good size. Changing rooms didn't appear to be connected to the main pool area as we found out we had to walk across the reception area to get changed, we may have missed a connecting door but there were no signs to say which way to go from the pool. It was only when asking a member of staff they pointed out a doorway with the letter 'M' on a plate by the side of the door that they identified this was the male changing room. Collapse

On arrival we queried the closure of the hydrotherapy pool as we had only received an email less than 24 hours prior advising us that it was shut. Whilst waiting for the manager another 2 guests were querying the same thing. Myself and one of my group were whisked to an office - which I may add is unnecessary and we felt like this was an attempt at intimidation (which it did not). The list of all email addresses was in the managers hands, Richard one of the managers, found my email and he underlined it so of course this was proof in his eyes that I had received the first email. I did not appreciate the insinuation that I am a liar when I repeatedly advised I had not received the mail as if I had we would have re-arranged. We are 4 women who have very busy lives and childcare to sort out so for us this was a big deal to have this overnight stay at the spa. The fact we were told that they were investigating the email situation shows they know there was an error. In business you accept there is an issue - deal with the matter quickly to maintain satisfaction of your guests and carry out any 'investigation' you have to in your own time. That is not the guests problem. I was shocked that throughout our conversation the words 'sorry' or 'apologise' were not used once. It was very well rehearsed, throwing the T’s & C’s at us and I was gob smacked when Richard said ' we didn't have to tell you about it (closure of the hydrotherapy pool)- it was a courtesy’. A simple apology and a gesture of goodwill goes a long way. You should remember that this was the START of our journey at your spa (for one of my group it was her 4th visit). We had driven for 2 hours, we were ready to relax an we got whisked into a room. A simple gesture such as, a glass of fizz, % off lunch or a drink at the bar pre dinner on the spa would have been fine. You really should look at how you manage your experience for customers. We were told about complimentary massages by the pool - Over 4 hours we were there on Friday by the pool and we didn't see 1 person doing this. On Saturday we saw a girl doing this but she only managed about 4 people before she disappeared. Also on arrival in the spa we were greeted with drilling, when we had been told that for now the work was on hold. It looked like a building site, this could have been handled much better. The grounds of the spa are lovely and I am sure in the summer they are beautiful to relax in. The bar and the restaurant are really nice and all the staff are friendly. It was simply the management of this spa that lets it down. Why didn’t the spa add the closure of the hydrotherapy pool to their website or even post on Instagram. That way they would have been able to say we did try everything to communicate this.... I have been to a lot of spas and I won’t be rushing back here. Purely down to the management of this Spa. Completely agree with below reviews on the way the current hydrotherapy pool situation has been utterly mismanaged. Visited the spa this weekend with a group of 4 friends- we had booked a while ago and had been looking forward to a much needed break. We had exactly the same experience as reviews below- we were not informed that the hydrotherapy pool was out of action until less than 24 hours before we arrived. We were told we had received an email in February which we had not. We were told that under the T&Cs, they are not legally bound to inform us if any of the facilities are out of action and any email would have just been a courtesy anyway. There was not a hint of any apology. The main spa area was highly unpleasant to sit in- it looked and smelt like a building site and very unrelaxing. Their way of ‘thanking us for our patience’ was complimentary hand massage by the pool (which, by the way, none of us received after spending 2 days in the pool area). I completely understand that these things happen and maintenance works are an essential feature of running a spa, but, frankly, the way this was handled with the guests staying during this period was, in my opinion, very defensive, inappropriate and disappointing. Any gesture of goodwill would have been highly appreciated. I would add that the lovely lady who my sister spoke to at reception on check out was the only person throughout our stay who gave us a true apology and seemed quite shocked at the way it had been handled. Also the gorgeous grounds, bar, food and treatments were lovely as ever. This was my 4th visit to the spa, which I have highly recommended in the past. I will be looking for new spa recommendations now as this has left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. Such a shame. Collapse

i have visited the spa before and had a wonderful stay, however this trip, which had been planned meticulously with friends as our first break away together since having babies and one of our party recuperating from illness, started off on a bad note as we recieved an email less than 24hours prior to our arrival to inform us that the hydrotherapy pool wasn’t working. this pool is the main feature of the spa area and not only was it not working, there were bright yellow plastic hazard warnings surrounding it as well as well as work men drilling in the space - essentially the main spa area which houses the pool, sauna and steam rooms looked and sounded like a building site. on arrival we queried the fact that we had recieved just 24hours notice prior to our visit and would’ve liked to have been given more notice or perhaps the option to move the dates we were coming or given some compensation for the inconvenience. We were instantly told that there was nothing they could do. we then asked to speak to a manager who was equally evasive and insisted that we had recieved an email 2 weeks earlier (we had not) but then admitted that there had been an issue with this email and they were investigating whether or not it had actually been sent. As repeat customers (one of us had been 3 times previously) it was such a huge shame that they couldn’t even offer us anything as a small gesture of goodwill or acknowledgment that we wouldn’t be able to use the facilities we had paid for. we were shocked at the state of the spa when we walked in- it was in no way a relaxing environment to be in, but had we been told about it, or offered a discount on dinner, or a glass of fizz on arrival, or a free drink at the bar, there are so many things that could’ve gone some way to make up for the fact that the main spa area was out of bounds. customer service stands for a lot and it’s not often easy to arrange these trips - this was something we had all looked forward to for so long, saved up for, arranged childcare for, taken days off work for. it’s not really good enough to be told by a member of the management staff that “well we didn’t actually HAVE to tell you about the pool being a building site anyway, we were just being nice by informing you” in addition to be accused of lying when we said we hadn’t received an email 2 weeks earlier. the restaurant, bar, and spa staff are all lovely and friendly but the whole experience on arrival put a real dampener on what should’ve been a relaxing and enjoyable night away. we came to spend money on treatments and lunch and dinner and we most certainly were not made to feel like the valued customers we are. a huge huge shame and disappointment that this wasn’t recognised. the closure of the spa could’ve easily been dealt with in a much better and more professional way. there is still no mention on the spa website that the hydro pool and spa area is not working currently. We stayed at the Lifehouse Spa on 26/02/2019. It was quite a disappointing stay. Although the facilities and surrounding are good, the spa service is seriously lacking. The treatments we experienced were lackluster and I did not feel the Therapists were proficient. The location of Lifehouse is quite remote. There is no taxi service available from the station to the spa. You need to pre-arrange a pick-up with the spa- we were caught out by this. The rooms are bright and cheerful. The property itself is set on acres of land- some parts of which are manicured with an outdoor tea garden. His is no doubt the best feature of Lifehouse. The spa facilities itself are extensive and of a high standard- there is a thermal pool, indoor pool, sauna, steam room and salt room The restaurant menu is basic- not the best of options for vegetarians and hardly any gluten free options. There are two restaurants in the village- a Chinese and a grill type place. The Chinese was closed on Tuesday and therefore we ordered some food from the local chip shop who delivered to us. There are plenty of spa resorts in and around London. I personally would not look to return. Collapse
