The dinner was very nice but rather expensive for the amount of food we were given. The hotel was in a quiet location with very little noise at night. We felt a little out of place at ages 50-60 as the other quests were all aged 20-30. This was really a younger persons hotel. Collapse

I was told The Lifehouse was near Frinton on Sea. I remember Frinton as a quiet, quaint seaside town so headed off expecting something to match. What I found was startlingly different and very special. Lifehouse is an amazing blend of old and new with a magnificent modern spa built around old English Heritage stone remains of Thorpe Hall, and acres of grounds that provide a true sense of tranquillity. I posted some photos on Facebook and every comment was a 'wow'. My stay included dinner in Water Lilies Restaurant. The Lamb and Pinot Noir may not have been the healthiest of options but they tasted great. Breakfast was much more in tune - a very tasty smoothie made to order! Then came the highlight. An invigorating swim and an 'Iconic Massage'. I warn readers that after 50 minutes on a Lifehouse massage table you don't have a care in the world. I took a walk in the gardens before getting back into my car to head for home. In 24 hours I felt like I had enjoyed a weekend away. I will be treating my wife and her best friend to a trip to The Lifehouse. I am truly impressed. Collapse

We had a lovely 1 night stay at Lifehouse, it's a perfect place to escape for a night. We loved the room with views over the pretty walled garden, it had a great bed and strong shower. Everything was really clean. We enjoyed using the well-equipped gym and spa. The only downside for me was that the spa was very crowded on the Saturday afternoon, to the point that in the sauna, we sat side by side. I prefer to have a bit of space and it was noisy with people chatting, which I appreciate isn't the hotel's fault but it felt like it had been overbooked by 20%. We couldn't get a bed to keep our towels on and there wasn't anywhere to hang your robe and towel. It was so busy that 2 weeks before our booking, all treatments were fully booked so we didn't get to have a message unfortunately. The salt room was closed as well, I would've liked to try this. The food and wine in the restaurant was very good, with plenty of choice at breakfast and it was all great quality. We didn't have dinner included in our stay, so our a-la-carte dinner worked out at around £130 - I'd probably try to get this included in our deal next time. The staff were excellent, they were really welcoming and friendly. We'd love to come back in a few months and book during the week when it's likely to be quieter. Collapse

However, what brought this place above and beyond was the devine customer service from all staff we came into contact with especially Liam at reception. He put the graft in even after he was off duty to make my girlfriend and my stay a night to remember! Thanks guys, hope all your good will return to you in one way or another!! Collapse

I have just got back from a one night stay here, and for 3 of us the trip was not cheap. Unfortunately the service and experience delivered did not match the price tag. If it was a third less expensive then I'd be raving about this place and recommending it to everyone, but alas i'll only be saying go here if it's on a really good offer! We were looking forward to a relaxing spa break, but I think this is definitely more a party spa destination. It was very loud for starters, even in the relaxation room, in the treatment rooms you could hear people chatting as they walked along the corridor, there was nowhere relaxing to sit and chat so everywhere became that space. We checked in at 10am and at 10.30am went to see what classes were on, we hadn't realised you needed to book into them, never done that at other spas - you just turn up at the class! There were no afternoon classes at all and there was only 1 class that had 1 space left for the morning, and as a party of 3 we declined. I think it's ridiculous to not put on classes all through the day when it's a hotel spa - not a hotel that happens to have a spa there. One guest we overheard complaining saying they'd paid a lot of money basically for a sleepover! It was very busy, and the hydro pool is small so it doesn't really lend itself to lots of people. The salt inhalation room was broken, and there were tiles missing from the hydro pool which was sharp on your feet. The hydro pool was lovely however. The towels were like an NHS special, thin and rough, the room towels weren't much better in one of our rooms, but ironically in our other room in our booking there were fluffy lovely towels!! The bar staff and area was lovely and very welcoming and the food was really good, we had a great club sandwich (absolutely massive!) and a lovely vegetarian sharing platter. The restaurant in the evening was hilarious, we ordered two poached pear and Stilton starters - at £10.50 each we were expecting something pretty good...at least a whole pear anyway! I think we shared 1 pear between us and the amount of Stilton maybe stretched to half a teaspoon between the two dishes!! The check-in staff in the evening (after you've had a day in the spa you can go to your room anytime from 3pm) were really off with us and unwelcoming - definitely get a sense all is not well with moral with staff. Treatments were good generally, however they have a weird checking in system where they give you a buzzer that will vibrate when your time is ready (even though you still sit in the treatment lounge!) felt like i was waiting for a table at TGIs. A facial I had was meant to be 55 minutes long and cost £75 - the total treatment time that i was actually having anything done was 40 minutes, and 10 of those i was just lying there with a mask on whilst the therapist wrote the products she'd used on a card to inspire me to buy them. No head rub or arm massage like with other facials, all very odd! Giving me 10 minutes to get ready for the treatment to start is excessive - how long does it take to take a dressing gown off and get under a towel! The rooms were nice and the grounds are lovely, definitely a highlight to walk around and i imagine in the summer the whole place feels very different as you could relax outside and find some quiet. There was a retreat on whilst we were there, run by Lucy Meck from Towie which meant one of the studio rooms was used for the private event and they had about 3 tables in the restaurant and honestly the noise was so loud we couldn't hear ourselves have a conversation. They weren't overly loud or doing anything wrong at all but in a spa you usually get small groups so the noise is distributed around the restaurant whereas in this instance it was all focused into one corner and i actually felt it would be quieter at home with the kids - not what you expect on an expensive spa break!! We probably would have spoken to someone about all these issues - but honestly there didn't seem to be anyone in a managerial role, there would be no way of knowing you were speaking to someone that could do anything about any of these issues. It almost felt like there was no manager of the hotel/spa. So overall i would say don't waste your money here if relaxation and recharging is what you are after, but if you're after a drinking sesh and not fussed about classes or being in a busy spa then go for it you won't be disappointed! I have visited this Spa 5 times before always with friends and have always loved it although last time (June ‘18) we felt it was looking tired. Such a difference this year! All seems to have been revamped and smartened up! Had an amazing ‘included’ facial with Ellie....honestly the nicest I’ve ever had! We were in The Mulberry rooms for the first time and they were lovely! The Spa have extended the check in/check out hours and that made it such a treat as we were in our lovely rooms by 11am. New chairs and beds by the pool and again everything smartened up in that area. All staff we encountered were wonderful and massive improvements in check in and check out which had let it down before. Food in the restaurant was gorgeous and although the prices are high for lunch/snacks again the food was delicious. Can’t recommend The Lifehouse highly enough-such a beautiful building too and such a calm and cool atmosphere. Thank you! Collapse
