Stayed here for two nights. The hotel is very picturesque and in beautiful countryside outside the town (not walking distance). When we arrived we were given a room with no outside space. We asked if it would be possible to have one with outside space to enjoy the weather. We were told they were fully booked and there were no other rooms available. After a bit of persistence a room was found and we were moved. The staff were all very nice but not terribly good at getting back to you as they indicated they would. On the first evening we chose to dine in the fine dining restaurant and this is where the bad comes in. The food was, in my opinion, not fine dining and quite a few of the options were unavailable as they were awaiting a delivery! Seemed as though the meals were not being prepared from scratch in the kitchen! The pool is fairly small and on the first day there were no beds and nowhere to sunbathe which we wanted to do after a long drive. The breakfasts were fine but lots of flies landing on the food which is very off putting. What makes the hotel is more the building and surroundings rather than the actual stay. Collapse

If you’re thinking about booking at this hotel, do yourself a favor and don’t. Overpriced, filthy and many better options available in the area. If you would like to learn our ordeal, read on. We visit Franschhoek regularly and we have stayed in many hotels and B&B’s in the areas. Le Franschhoek Hotel has possibly the worst check in service in South Africa. When we arrived at the hotel with our proof of booking, the receptionist could not find our reservation only for them to realize that we had been booked in for the wrong night. This was an understandable mistake and they said they would do everything they could to rectify it. After waiting for over an hour we were told that our rooms had been “upgraded”. I asked to see the room before we checked in as I was weary of an “upgrade”. As expected, this room was unsatisfactory and we again had to wait for our original rooms to be ready. Another 30min. After further wait we finally went to our rooms. We had received a personal undertaking from the manager that she would do everything in her power to ensure the rest of our stay would be nothing short of spectacular. Not one single thing was done by management to improve our stay. The truth is we didn’t even see or hear from management our entire stay. After waiting over half an hour for our luggage, we didn’t even receive an apology. A personal promise from management does not mean anything. If that was not bad enough, we requested double beds and received two single beds. The rooms were dirty, the bathroom door handle was hanging off and there were stains all over the carpet. The housekeeping manager should be fired for the filthy state of the balconies, and corridors. Furthermore we were unable to relax by the pool as there were four unsupervised children screaming to each for over an hour. There is a sign saying that children should be supervised by an adult, however this is not the case. We usually love coming to Franschhoek as a weekend getaway from busy Cape Town City life or to enjoy the Bastille festivities. Unfortunately Le Franschhoek Hotel and Spa has left us with a terrible experience that we never wish to revisit. Collapse

We spent an evening there this weekend. It is a beautiful setting and one feels so removed from the hustle and bustle of city life, as you are surrounded by maintains and stunning gardens. From arrival, the staff were friendly and exceptionally helpful, without anything been a problem. Whilst checking in you are offered a chilled glass of bubbly or juice. Definitely worth a 2nd visit. We stayed 3 nights in February 2018 in a standard room and it was just about that ,it had all the usual a/c fridge to ( no Dstv) but unfortunately it had by far the worst bed and mattress we encounter in 7 Stays around South Africa which was a bit strange as they offered 5 different types of pillow but a creaky wooden slatted bed frame and a mattress more akin to a brick ( and we are used to a firm mattress !) - it's a shame they a good hotel should let itself down with something this basic . The hotel was the most "corporate " of our trip and lacked atmosphere - no one in the bar / resturants shut- when open just 2 other dinners - wouldn't go back, there are better options nearer town ( the shuttles were few and far between- we ended up driving into town each it time ) Collapse

This was our first trip to South Africa and we stayed for a week. We had a lovely double height room overlooking the small lake. This section was called the river suites and was very quiet. As others have said, this hotel is beautiful. Stunning views all round. The food quality for lunch and breakfast was simply excellent in our opinion. Full breakfast buffet with all hot and cold options. Ample seating on the attractive terrace and in the dining room. Service was excellent from the moment we arrived to the time we left. We used the hotel shuttle taxi to go to town and the wine estates which worked out to only about £8 per trip. The hotel has a good pool but my only negative comment would be that some staff seemed to ‘hang out’ there, playing their own music loudly which did clearly irritate some of the other guests at times. I think it would be a much more relaxing area if management stopped this, especially in such a high end hotel. We had massages in the on site spa 3 times which were very good value and quality. Thanks spa team! The real highlight of this property, apart from the beautiful planting, is definitely the wonderful service. It really added to the enjoyment of our stay. A special thank you to Bulelwa for top service and dinner advice as well as arranging our transfers and providing delicious MCC while we waited! We will return for sure. Excellent. Collapse
