Great location and potential but they are either too laid back, or uncaring - we couldn't tell which - and the place is slipping a bit in service and decor terms. Had evening meal on arrival which was OK but nothing special but service was.... shall we say... somewhat lacking. Girls seemed distracted and/or untrained. Food arrived in fits and starts. We had to repeatedly ask for cutlery, condiments etc etc (compare this to dinner in World Service restaurant following evening). Similar at breakfast - friendly but not effective. Ok'ish. Our room seemed fine on arrival but was very hot and we found no way of adjusting the heat level - could only open one of two large windows about 5-6 inches max and had to put large ceiling fan on full blast to try to cool room (but see later) . Towel rail in bathroom was also on full blast and could not be adjusted or turned off (knob was busted). To keep window open in bathroom had to prop it open with metal tissue box! Later in evening was clear we were on side of hotel for revellers and mini cab pick ups - lots of shouting and swearing and we realised reason for secondary glazing - however we then had choice of noise and reasonable temperatures or less noise and boiling hot. Then at 3.00-4.00 AM had the delight of people stuck in lift right next to room (see other review below) with alarm sounding and them shouting and screaming which went on and on for hours. We tried ringing reception and no-one answered the phone. Mentioned this to manager following morning and no apologies or anything - they just tried to blame it on the guests. Overall, considering the cost, I would say it was an average to ok stay but I have had better stays for less money in other hotels. They really need to up their game as far as service is concerned and fix a few things. Collapse

A beautiful hotel that has been lovingly restored. I had room 24 which was stunning. In the room there was a complimentary bottle of bubbles from the Hotel General Manager which always creates a great start to any stay. Breakfast in the morning was relaxed and once again great with great service. All in all a great stay in a beautiful hotel in one of the most beautiful areas of Nottingham city. Collapse

We stayed at the Lacemarket hotel for a birthday celebration in the city. Check-in was good, we arrived to our bedroom to find a view overlooking an unpleasant view of a back garden or internal court yard space. We returned from the evening in the city and entered the lift to reach our bedroom on the second floor, unfortunately the lift stopped between floors. We proceeded to call the alarm within the lift to no avail. We then called the reception telephone number (luckily one of our mobile phones had signal in the lift) to be told by the night porter he was aware and he had called the engineer. After no further communication we then proceeded to call the reception telephone again around 20 minutes later to be told the engineer was 30 miles out of Nottingham. The night porter came once to check on us and just called, is everyone okay? We called reception again 30 minutes later to say it was getting very uncomfortable now and we needed to get out. I was horrified to hear him say he could call the fire brigade but he would rather not. So he didn't. The lift engineer arrived later and managed to free the lift. We got out and went straight to bed. The following morning upon check out the manager was on duty, we explained the situation to him simply expressing our concerns, 2 hours is a very long time to be able to free the issue. Should this happen again to someone in distress it may be catastrophic. The manager replied with "We do not own a lift company..."! We completely understand the lift was broken and the maintenance service was called, what I do not appreciate is the service received following the incident. We were offered no apology, no compensation, we were even asked for £2 for a bottle of water drank from the mini bar. I would imagine most people would want at least a drink of water after such experience. We understand these things can happen however I am utterly appalled at the level of service received in this instance. Collapse
