You have to take a 30 minute water taxi to get to this hotel. The hotel provides the water taxi but it only leaves at the top and 1/2 hour of each hour. So if you miss it by 5 minutes ... you wait and wait and wait. You may think it is worth the "price" but you give up so much, because there is no quick trip back to the hotel. They do NOT provide pick up from the airport/train station. They will however drop you off at the train/airport (they just don't tell you this until you arrive). They have all the US amenities that you want (spa, kids pool, adult pool, workout room, fancy American restaurant etc..) . Also make sure you include breakfast in the hotel room price otherwise you pay $35 per person for a very nice buffet but not sure it was worth $35. They also expect you to tip everywhere on property. We stayed at 4 different hotels on our trip through Italy and this was was by far the biggest disappointment. They didn't tell us that they did not have a king bed room available so they "upgraded" us to a larger room and pushed two queen beds together. We didn't realize this until we finally got into be at 10pm that night and then because we only had one day in Venice we didn't take the time to complain until our last day ... at which point the hotel really didn't care (and we could complain b/c we should have told them sooner ... but honestly we didn't want to haggle over a room ... just felt a little duped in the whole process) If you really don't want to leave the USA and want all your comforts of a US hotel (and you are probably using your status etc... to get an even better deal) then stay here. Otherwise I think there were several better options that we will explore the next time. Collapse

After spending six nights in Rome and Florence, we thought the JW’s private island in Venice would be an escape from the bustling sounds of the former cities. From our reception to our meals, everything at the hotel was more than we expected. We especially enjoyed quiet walks and the fragrance of the island provided by its lush and beautiful landscape. We ate at Dapolarova on our first night as we were informed it was rented for a wedding on night two...completely understandable. Unfortunately for us, we had an early flight on Sunday which required us to wake and catch a water taxi by 3:50 am. Again, our responsibility. Where the JW Marriott failed was by allowing this wedding to go on ALL NIGHT. I expect the couple paid a pretty penny for their nuptials there, however there were also many other paying customers. Our room faced the small chapel about a hundred yards away. This chapel was basically made into an all night rave...lights and techno music blaring, even until we left at around 4 am. Our intention was to get to bed early to enjoy a bit of sleep before and very long travel day. Let’s just say between the revelers and the music, there was NO rest for the weary. In this case, I believe the JW chose the profit of what I’m certain was a beautiful and very expensive wedding over the comfort of ALL paying guests. And listen, I can party with the best of them, but firmly believe there needs to be a cut-off for such activity at a resort of this quality. Otherwise, have the couple rent the entire island. I only wish I could post the video I took from our window, I believe many would agree 4 am and still going strong is completely unacceptable for a hotel of this caliber. Collapse

As a Bonvoy member, I was delighted to have sufficient points to secure a few gratis nights in this place, which went down very well with my wife & 2 small kids! Loved the sense of occasion when getting the boat to the island (very James Bond) and was immediately impressed by the design and tranquility of the hotel and island respectively. We paid for a junior sweet to accommodate our kids, which was gorgeous and well designed. Over the next few days we explored the island and made extensive use of the family swimming area and park which was great. So why the 4* review then? The food. We dined both in the rooftop restaurant and in the lobby. On both occasions the food was a bit disappointing and in our humble opinion tasted a little ‘weird.’ Not horrible, but just a letdown based on the pricing point. I also objected to the double whammy of the ‘cover charge’ and tip request. It felt unnecessarily greedy to me. In future I’d stay at the hotel and get the boat over to Venice for dinner and then I’d be back to a 5* review. Collapse

We cannot say enough good things about this hotel. Our family stayed here for several nights while in Venice. We were a bit apprehensive about being removed from the core areas of Venice, but it ended up being a positive. The ferry ran frequently and didn't take too long to get over to Venice. In return for being removed, we got lots of green space for our child to run around, playgrounds and obstacle courses, and a great pool for when Venice got too hot and crowded. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. And the rooms were very well-appointed. We would come back here in a heartbeat. Collapse

The views were beautiful but the food was not good. We waited a very long time for our meal, they were out of several dishes and the food they served was not great. It was a shame because the view was nice.
