Stayed here for one night for my birthday. We booked an executive room which included complimentary newspaper, bottle of wine and snacks in the room. Room was fine with a nice view but no snacks - had to chase up (kit kat and a can of coke!). The newspaper didn’t arrived, no teabags in the room. There was a coffee machine but when asked if we could have coffee pods, reception informed me that they don’t provide these any longer and the machine shouldn’t be in the room! The morning of my birthday we went down for the buffet breakfast at 9.15an which we had paid extra for, oh my goodness! Nobody welcomed us or informed us of what was on offer. The bread section looked like a child had been playing around it was that messy and very little on offer. There was no fresh fruit, croissants, bacon or beans left. I complained to a member of staff who was totally uninterested, another resident complained to a manager and still nothing happened. Every member of staff on the reception desk and in the restaurant who we came into contact with were very amateurish. There is an obvious lack of staff training, specifically in customer care skills and taking ownership and dealing with problems. I have worked in top class hotels and this level of service would not be acceptable. Spend your money elsewhere! Collapse

Warm welcome from Neil when we arrived very late at night after an eight hour car journey. Our room on the 4th floor had everything we could possibly need and an amazing view as well. Ask for a room with a view up-river. We were surprised at how close a walk it was to Newcastle centre. We visited the Sunday market on the quayside - which is a must if you're there at the weekend. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay and we shall certainly return. Collapse
