Okay, this was a babymoon weekend with a 3 week old baby (accompanied by two young siblings), so our expectations were a little different from the normal traveller. First up, we drove to the address provided to us and after much angst managed to find a carpark on a very busy street; only to be informed that we had parked at the back of the hotel and needed to return to the car and drive around to the front entrance (a street address till that moment never provided to us). The front street address had no signage regarding how to gain entrance to the hotel, so after doing numerous loops and attempting to enter through the adjacent public carpark: through sheer frustration we drove up what seem to be a one way exit from the hotel (it was actually the entrance). This was not a great start, to a supposed relaxing weekend. The staff were friendly and tried to be helpful but did not seem to appreciate our situation (newborn baby), not understanding the urgency for our luggage (at least the baby bags and cot to be in the room). It was many hours before the crib arrived. The hotel had everything you would expect from a 5 star hotel, though it was leveraging the heritage aspects a lot (think shower in bath); but we expected better than 1 ply toilet paper (if it was 2 then it was very thin and cheap). Also we hoped for a comfortable chair for mums feeding baby's every few hours. Still the restaurants and food are worthy of every high acclaim directed to them and for this reason only I will not give a rating less than 3 stars. Same to for the location which allowed us to walk everywhere, with a pram, from circula quay, the rocks, Sydney CBD, Darling Harbour (30 mins). The only entertainment at the hotel for young kids (under 10) was a swimming pool with 4 inflatable toys (which they loved); unfortunatley the only male toilet facility was located down the hall at the Gym. This was a major inconvenience; resulting in stressed kids trying to make it (they do leave these things to the last minute), potentially unsupervised children, wet floors, and of course the worse and most likely outcome. Upon leaving, we then found ourselves trapped in the carpark bay while other guest pulled up in front of us to check in - note they were encouraged to leave their car with concierge to be unloaded and parked , who unfortunately now paid no attention to us travellers (another guest was in the same predicament) boxed in and trying to leave. We appreciate that this hotel could be fantastic for couples, professionals, etc; and would recommend it to them if they were valuing dining, location and service geared towards their needs. Unfortunately they didn't come close to meeting ours. P.s we loved the pillows Collapse
A room with a view

I had arranged a stay at the intercontinental for my husbands birthday. The views from the room surpassed our expectation....just wow! We visited the supper club after dinner out. The concierge had kindly arranged a table for us. The views from the balcony are breathtaking and will surpass other 'known' bars with a view. The service for drinks was quite slow and we waited a while for our desserts. They were really good, my husband loved his Easter egg cocktail. I got to watch the sunrise as I didn't find the blackout blind switch. It was well worth waking up for! Collapse

I have stayed here before and love the rooms with views to The Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. The feeling you get when you enter the room and see these 2 icons is amazing and I do enjoy just gazing at the view endlessly . The continuous water traffic is fascinating to watch and changes constantly. The night views equally amazing. Great beds and pillows. I like the bathrooms as although of a classic older style the fittings are good quality and I always love a soak in the bath. You can open the window from the bathroom whilst at the vanity and see the wonderful views as well. Room service is very accomodating, good choice on the menu 24 hrs so the first night stay a great bottle of champagne and seafood platter a hit. The buffet breakfast is good and a comprehensive selection available now with a fresh juice bar and cappuccino coffee included , not added extras. We enjoyed a late lunch in the downstairs area on one of the days, excellent charcuterie platter and dessert. The night before we left we just wanted to relax and so instead of going out enjoyed dinner at the hotel- we don't usually do buffet meals for lunch / dinner but after being out all day decided on trying this. The seafood was terrific , the other dishes ok , nothing outstanding but the fresh seafood more than made up for it. The location is fantastic- our brief was relaxation and to be a tourist in Syney. We caught the ferry from Circular Quay to Milsons Point wandered through Luna Park reminiscing on Coney Island and the Laughing Clowns from childhood memories ( free entry ) wandered along the harbour path to Wendy Whitelys secret garden- a draw card for our visit to Sydney. Then after exploring around Lavendar Bay, walked back across the bridge with magnificent views of the Opera House and Harbour. Another day toured the Opera House, had lunch there then returned to the hotel for a nap and then out to dinner at Bennelong Restaurant at the Opera House before the play "Talk" in one of the smaller theatres at the Opera House. All fantastic and only a short walk home to the hotel. The third day was spent walking through the Botanic Gardens, visiting the National Gallery for the Warhol "Adman " exhibition and walking on through Hyde Park for a 30 min shop at DJs and Myer for aftershave for our son - shopping was not on the agenda for this trip . We live in Melbourne so we as we were on holidays we wanted fresh air, water views and relaxing walks and sights. Staying at this hotel delivered it all . I can only compliment this hotel, it is a beautiful heritage building, established, runs like clockwork, delivers great customer service and caters to all your needs . Definitely recommend it . Spent 2 nights with elderly relatives at the Intercontinental prior to ANZAC day. An initial issue with the room bookings was sorted professionally by Nicholas the manager who responded with generosity and calmness. From this point onwards the hotel staff looked after us extremely well. The rooms are spacious, clean and extremely comfortable, the location and view are beyond fantastic and the food and food service were excellent. We will not hesitate to stay here again.....and all this occurred no doubt in difficult circumstances for the hotel as the American Vice President was staying there resulting in extraordinary security measures including floor and entrance blockades.
