I have just returned home from a ten day stay in this wonderful hotel. From the moment I arrived (28 July) to the day I left (07 August) I was amazed at just how friendly the staff were. My room was excellent, beautifully furnished and with a free (soft drinks only) mini bar, alcoholic beverages may be ordered from room service. I became a huge fan of the of the Lobby Lounge bar in the evenings, after the first evening they remembered what I drank and the only question in subsequent days “same as usual sir?” The panorama bar, b-hush is a must to visit. The views over the city at night are breathtaking. My only slight problem was that it was so dark, that along with the black stone floor made it difficult to see the steps. I am partially sighted so this is probably not problem for people with normal vision. To wrap up I am happy to recommend this hotel 100%. If you are going to Kyiv make the Intercontinental your hotel of choice. A big thank you to all of the staff who made my stay memorable. Collapse

I was delighted to go back to Kyiv again and stayed at the Intercontinental for a second time. The location is fantastic, being 5 minutes walk from Maidan. The staff were excellent, helpful and informative. My room was very comfortable on the 5th floor and spotlessly clean. It had a free minibar and a very comfortable bed. The wifi was fast and effective. I also like the toiletries. I had an excellent massage in the spa. The Thai massage therapist is excellent and I would definitely recommend her. The breakfast was really nice and the omelette chef was really sweet. They had an incredibly wide range of breakfast goods. Apart from the omelettes my favourite was something called syrniky which I think is a local form of pancake. I had a very nice meal in the restaurant. Everything was beautifully presented and tasty and not unduly expensive. I would definitely stay here again. Collapse

How often do you get the hostess in the breakfast buffet ask as she seats you, "Would you like a bucket of ice again this morning?" For a Texan, that's music to our ears. And the waitress in the Club Lounge, when you enter in the evening, "Are you ready for your gin and tonic and a glass of chardonnay?" And what else did they do for me - - - made me a pot of black tea and brought a bucket of ice and sliced lemons, so I could have iced tea. Texans can't live without their iced tea. We stayed in Suite 612 which was lovely - - - especially the wonderful soft and smooth bed linens. This is a fairly new hotel, but thankfully it was made and decorated to continue the lovely traditional style of the area with its magnificent churches - - - certainly not like the glass out-of-place Hyatt which sticks out like a sore thumb. My husband and I each had two treatments in the spa - - - excellent professionalism. Last, I would say, I never once felt any concern about safety - - - the uprising is so far away. Our visit was truly a relaxing and learning experience. Collapse

The InterContinental Kyiv is one of the best hotels in the city, close to city center. It is very popular with western business visitors, and meets all security and comfort needs. Location is excellent -- a few hundred meters away from Maidan square, and close to two large church complexes. Rooms are comfortable and modern, in the "InterContinental" style. The hotel upgrades IHG Ambassador guests 1-2 levels, so from the lowest tier room I booked, I was in a "Deluxe" room, which was quite comfortable. Most importantly, the wifi at the hotel is free, fast (10x5Mbps at least), and somewhat uniquely, uses a single wpa2 wifi password rather than captive portal (and thus works better than most hotel wifi once you have the password, which is freely given out). The only aspect of the room I'd change is swapping the "traditional" desk chair for something a bit more office-style ergonomic. It is definitely on the high-end/luxury/expensive side, especially during high occupancy periods, but for business travel is probably worth it (I stayed on IHG points redemption, which range from a good to excellent value depending on cash rates at the time.) Security at the hotel is both obvious and substantial - there are cameras throughout, security staff who obviously recognize guests after check-in, and physical design for security. This isn't so much because Kyiv is a dangerous city (it isn't), but because the hotel is used for VIP/official guests or meetings with security requirements. (It's also next to the national police headquarters.) Service at the hotel is spectacular. Everyone in the hotel seems to speak fluent English and is actively looking to make your stay as good as it can be. I injured my back during the day and asked the concierge (late on a saturday night) where to get ibuprofen, and he sent up a member of staff to go out to a 24h pharmacy and purchase medication for me (and was back within 15 minutes). Housekeeping was available even late at night to fully clean my room when I was out for dinner, and staff throughout the hotel were friendly. There are some great dining options (including one of Kyiv's top bars, B-Hush, on the top floor), and 24h room service has an extensive selection. For a business or official traveler, or a western tourist who doesn't want to have any hassles and is willing to pay a premium this would be one of my top choices in the city. Collapse
