I spent my 65th birthday at the Carlton Intercontinental and my wife and I felt pampered from beginning to end. Even though I had booked with my IHG miles we were warmly welcomed and as a Royal Ambassador we were given an upgrade to a wonderful room facing the Mediterranean (432). Service was outstanding and we were looked after by Caithy, who was there whenever we needed something. As a surprise, a cake was prepared for my birthday. About the restaurant Carlton, see my separate entry. In brief, this is how a "Grand Old Lady" hotel should be in every city: luxurious, anticipating, and offering the discrete level of service that makes you feel you always get what you want. Congratulations to the team, and hopefully we'll see you back in September. The Carlton Intercon managed to exceed our expectations of excellence. Collapse

I would not recommend staying here for this price. I will come back after a full renovation if they plan to undertake one. Collapse

NOISY, NOISY Hotel Experience Personally, I had serious noise issues with this hotel. The worst was at 2:30am one night. Three wedding party guests were pounding away on a grand piano at the bottom of a winding stairway right under a huge column of rooms including mine. The stairway goes up to all floors and anyone in that column of rooms could hear it – without question. It was incredibly loud. These wedding guests did this twice for several minutes over about 45 minutes. The first time woke me up groggy, by the second time I was wide awake. I am writing this at 3:30am now unfortunately. My issue with this incident is that this is supposed to be a first-rate luxury hotel. They owe their guests a comfortable night’s sleep. The hotel management needs to have alert staff watching the common areas and monitoring this sort of thing in the middle of the night. That is especially important when you have a group of fully dressed wedding revelers still socializing at 3am. Make sure staff is aware and sensitive to those of us who are trying to sleep during this event. The piano is down the hall from the lobby. It isn’t remote. Letting that go on was unacceptable. I ended up dressing and going to the lobby to complain. That shouldn’t happen. Additionally, while the night desk staff person said he'd take care of it, he seemed to be taken aback that I would say anything, and didn’t seem to care much. The other noise issue was at check in when I said, “I travel on business, the only thing I care about is quiet, please assign me a quiet room”. The front desk person assured me the room I had was quiet. When I got there, it was over a big construction site that was still churning away at 6pm with huge night construction lights shining. The standard LOUD machines were grinding away and the BEEP BEEP BEEP sound from the backup warning was ringing all over the room. The front desk staff were accommodating, and they moved me to the room over the stair column (above). However, I thought that assuring me the location was quiet (I very specifically asked) and putting me over an active construction project wasn’t right. I stay in five-star hotels all over the world spending about 90 nights a year in hotels. So, I am familiar with what to expect. By the time I had arrived at The Carlton I had been in Asia, N. America, and Europe over seven days. Obviously sleep schedule is an issue after that. Especially in prominent hotels, catering to international travelers, management should be aware that sleep issues and jet lag are common with many guests and can be miserable. Be sensitive to that. Otherwise, my room was fine, not special – it is in desperate need of new carpet and a coat of paint. The bed and bedding were comfortable. The bathroom was very small and crummy. The location is very good in Cannes. But, others have commented on those points elsewhere. My issue was the noise. Collapse

The hotel is very classic style. A very spacious room with a large and confortable bed. The wardrobe Was more than enough for All my business and gala clothes. The bathroom is perfect with a nice bathtub and also shower. Amenities were great and Service as well. The breakfast Was croweded but the food delicious. The only problem Was the staff strike in the front of the hotel. It was very noisy. Also, cause of that some services were cancelled with short notice. Besides that, which Was a specific ocasion, I fully reccomend the hotel. Collapse

Visiting Cannes rather than staying, but went for lunch at the Carlton whilst here. Dining on the beach was a great option especially visiting in the summer. Food was excellent, couldn't fault and unusually for France there was a good range of vegetarian options available. Yes, you are paying for the fact you are dining somewhere iconic but overall the price was not excessively above what you would pay anywhere else in Cannes. Didn't begrudge the price as the quality of the food matched. Collapse
