Stayed her for a week during a business trip. The hotel is well located for the centre of the city with it's bars and restaurants within a 10 minute walk, but right next to the Metro Station for easy trips elsewhere. The staff were friendly and efficient and the overall ambience of the hotel is good...nice modern chic style, but with a nod to the traditional...not an easy balance to pull off, but here it is done very well. The restaurant was good for both evening dinner (only once) and breakfasts, where there was a wide choice of options. The room was excellent with good facilities and quality toiletries (useful for short trips where you don't want to pack your own). Nice comfortable bed and my room overlooked the square at the front of the hotel. There was nothing to fault here and everything to like. My ONLY issue was the Lillies all over the lobby for the first few days of my stay...I say MY issue, because I'm the one with the allergy to Lillies! Seriously though, faultless and comfortable, I can highly recommend the InterContinental in Bucharest and I will be back! Collapse
Very good location

The location of the hotel is very good, in the city center and has a big underground parking. The room in which I stayed was very spacious, clean and had a terrace with a nice view to the city. The breakfast was delicious and the room service too.

We went to Bucharest at the end of January and we’ve stayed in Intercontinental Bucharest. What a great hotel. We were welcome by Alina in reception. She was so professional and polite and ready to go an extra mile just to make our stay better. The rest of the staff was very good as well. Thank you very much!!!! Our room was on 17th floor. We had a good size balcony and the views were stunning! Room very clean and comfortable with an absolutely massive bed. Bathroom with a shower over a bath. On 22nd floor there is there is a SPA, little gym and swimming pool. Breakfast was stunning. Chef cooking eggs to order, spoiled for choice. And a glass of Champagne to finish. I would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay here if in Bucharest again. Collapse

I had high hopes for this hotel but was left disappointed. While the staff are friendly, I do not see them going out of their way for you. I stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks for a work trip and almost every morning it was the same routine at the breakfast restaurant. I would sit down at a spot that a workmate had previously vacated and no waitstaff would replenish the cutlery. So I'll ask for a mug, they bring it, then realise there's no teaspoon so call another waitstaff for one, then for brown sugar, then for coffee, etc. It should be obvious that if I ask for a mug then maybe I would like coffee which requires a teaspoon and sugar. The buffet breakfast was very American, with waffles, sausages, scrambled eggs, etc. There was also cereal, small selection of pastries, a salad bar. I was expecting to have traditional Romanian food for breakfast or maybe there is no such thing? My room was 925 and the view was boring. The balcony overlooked the back of the hotel, would have been good to have the view of the University or the National Theatre. I like that there was a balcony, though very cold it gave me the fresh air I needed (until someone in another room starts smoking on their balcony!) because the air con in the room was very temperamental. I tried adjusting it to be 18 degrees Celsius but some times it stays as 24 so the room was hot! The TV subtitles and Info were not in English, I should be able to change language to English and checked with reception if this could be done, they said they'll check and get back to me but didn't hear from them when I return from work. Sometimes I could not tell what show I was watching and even the synopsis was in Romanian. Few other room flaws: 1. Shelf in cupboard wonky 2. Curtain was difficult to close, on 2nd night the whole thing came down 3. Coffee machine reservoir was not clean, not sure if it was milk scum or limescale from water but either way, housekeeping should have clean it well before the next occupant moves in. 4. Shower curtains are not water repellent so after every shower, there is a puddle of water on the floor. 5. The bathtub is raised so high that getting in and out can be a bit dangerous. The biggest pain with this hotel was housekeeping. I have brown sugar with my coffee everyday but very rarely was my brown sugar topped up. There were days where even my coffee capsules were not restocked. Yes I can go down for breakfast for coffee but when I'm up before 6am and the restaurant isn't open, I need my coffee readily available in my room. And bedroom slippers were not replenished, I stayed there for 2 weeks and only got one pair? I've never stayed at a 5 star hotel that is so stingy with slippers. Housekeeping was always changing my towels. They do not follow the rules of the hotel on being environmentally friendly. There is a sign in the bathroom stating if we want to change the towels to leave it on the floor or bathtub, otherwise hang it up. I hang my towel up everyday but everyday they give me new ones, even hand towels are changed and my toiletries are moved around to fit in the hand towels. I want a hotel that respects my space. While I want you to clean my room, doesn’t mean I want you to move my things around. Upon check out, I was handed a review card and I rated everything at 7, the receptionist was concern and wanted to know why the low rating so I told him. He apologised and promised me 20,000 IHG rewards, free upgrade and free meal for my next stay. I was impressed. Then I sat down for breakfast and the same problem, missing cutlery but this time the restaurant manager served me and I gave him my complaints too and he apologised. At this point, I'm thinking "Ok whatever". But I was ready to leave a positive feedback for the hotel because they didn't make excuses and seemed eager to fix the problem. But then one major setback happened! The next day I realised I left behind 3 necklaces, they're handmade so not expensive but have a very sentimental value to me. I sent the hotel an email and they replied housekeeping did not see them which I find hard to believe. Either they just threw it away or they stole them or they still haven’t seen them (they’re hanging behind a mirror) – whichever the real reason the hotel does not come out looking good, it is pure negligence and shows they do not care to please the customer. I wrote twice stating how important the necklaces were but they just kept back with “sorry, housekeeping didn’t see them”. On my 3rd reply I got nasty because how can my necklaces just go missing like that?! So I told them to speak with the person who cleaned my room. After 2 days I finally get a more detailed reply stating "Our Security Manager along with our Executive Housekeeper performed a thorough investigation; our key server log was checked and all staff members that have entered the room after your departure were questioned." While this isn't the answer I want to hear, it certainly is a much better answer than the other replies I had received. Why didn't they just say that from the start? But it still doesn't make sense to me on how my necklaces can just go missing and I still blame the hotel for it. I know I left my necklaces behind, I know I forgot to pack them as I was rushing off to work, I know exactly where I left them hanging, so for housekeeping to say they didn't see them, doesn't make sense, someone is lying! Okay, let's admit it: I am an Intercontinental fan. The rooms are great, the beds even better and the bathrooms perfect. The décor is perhaps a bit on the pompous sidebut who cares. Excellent service from all staff. A breakfast buffet that would take weeks to taste all. Facilities, from concierge to inhouse gym (smallish, but all the basics) and the in-house Italian restaurant (do try the truffle soup....) .... can't wait to get back. Collapse
