The rooms were clean and tidy. Showers nice. No booklet information in the rooms though. The breakfast manager was nice and helpful. However, the breakfast was decidedly average, eggs cold, nothing to write home about. The bar was suppose to open til 12 at night but the barman, who was very arrogant closed it at 11.30. Parking outside was good. This is a run of the mill mass hotel company. It did the job but had no charm or family warmth. Collapse

Yet another stay at the Ibis (formerly the Ramada Encore). The staff are as usual very pleasant and helpful. It’s the best budget hotel in Barnsley because it doesn’t feel like a budget hotel. Why spend the same money at Travelodge or Premier Inn when you can have a large bright building with lounge and restaurant, with the feel of a more expensive hotel, easy parking, and breakfast included I have never got over the switch from Ramada to Ibis when all the two seater settees were thrown out and replaced with a pouffe. But I have discovered that the family rooms have a sofa bed that if left unmade replicate the former rooms so this time I booked a family room for a little extra money. In fact if you join the points program you get special offers and we got this time three nights for the price of two. The hotel is switching hands yet again. It will still trade under the name of Ibis but it will be run by the Starboard Group who manage hotels under their own and others brand names. I learned from reception that the dreadful condiments suppled in the restaurant and at breakfast are being changed to Heinz under the express direction of Starboard. That is a plus. No longer will “Tomato Ketchup” (surely the manufacturers could be done under the trade descriptions act) made of water, glucose fructose syrup and tomato paste be offered to compliment a meal. Whoever orders such stuff probably thinks they’re clever at cutting costs and their reward should be to eat a few table spoons of the stuff The hotel is well located and has plenty of parking, free Wi-Fi, big match football on TV in the lounge and comfortable rooms (though a bit sparse on seating.) I regularly stayed at this great hotel for 3 nights each week during 2017 and loved it - the staff are simply the best! I was always assured of a warm welcome by the receptionists and nothing was ever too much trouble for them - Ben and Mabel were particularly helpful. All the public spaces were clean and tidy, as were the bedrooms. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds very comfortable. The only thing I did not like in the bedrooms were the modern table lamps - each lamp was essentially a bulb in a glass jar - and if you switched it on, it emitted a light so glaring that it was impossible to do any work at the dressing table! The restaurant team were very friendly and efficient, and ensured that the breakfast items were regularly replenished, and that the tables were cleared and cleaned quickly. The buffet breakfast was great, with a good choice of cereals, croissants, pain au chocolat, fresh fruit, yoghurts and fruit juices. It must be very challenging at times looking after the individual needs of their customers, but the staff at this hotel do a grand job and so the General Manager, Dawne, should be very proud of her team. I would have no hesitation at all about recommending the Ibis Styles in Barnsley! Collapse
