We visited for 5 days during Mardis Gras. I was very surprised to find this gorgeous hotel in New Orleans. The bathroom is upgraded with a walk in shower, the suite was just large enough and the bed was comfortable. Just a short walk to Canal Street but still quiet for sleeping. We had an inside balcony room with a pool view. Powdered Sugar had great pastries, the bar was just ok would spend my money elsewhere. Or only complaint was about the police officer at the door checking bracelets, he was rude and was on a power trip. This guy I don’t believe had anything to do with the hotel but that was are only bad experience. Would definitely book here again! Collapse

If based on just the hotel then it would be a 4 star review, however, when you consider the overall experience it gets a 2 star rating. We liked the hotel for its location and the room was fine however we will probably choose another hotel the next time. Overall the hotel was fine, there are some repairs that could be done such as making the floor on the 3rd floor not slope to the side at a slight angle in one area and it would be nice to have a safe in the room (even most budget hotels have them now). I guess our first clue that things would end up downhill was upon check-in at the hotel. We did the online check in and soon after that, we received a text that our credit card was charged $248.94. When we arrived I asked the girl at the desk to verify what the charge was for and she said she couldn’t tell what it was for but it could just be incidentals. She went on to tell us that if the charge remains just call 1-800 number and complain. You would think that they would be able to actually tell you what the charge was for. Before we arrived we were also given the opportunity to pay extra for a late 2pm checkout and since our flight was later in the day we did so and then received an email from the Assistant Front Office Manage confirming our late checkout. The night before we left we received a letter under our door from the Front Office Manager that indicated that late checkouts would not be honored. We were confused but figured it was a mistake. We figured wrong! As we were sitting in our room housekeeping came by around 1:30pm and asked if we were going to checkout and we said yes we are leaving today. We were then informed that we were supposed to check out by noon. When we said we signed up for late checkout we were told the hotel wasn’t doing late checkouts that day. Luckily we already had our bags packed and immediately left our room and went to sit in the lobby for the rest of the time. When we got to the lobby we used the online link we were sent to complete the checkout. Essentially we were told (in not so many words) to get out. At home the next morning we received an email with our final bill which shows that we still got charged from the late checkout even though housekeeping told us that they weren’t honoring late checkouts. As a bonus the Hyatt Centric decided that they would just go ahead and charge us for the two water bottles that they had placed in our room and which still remained in our room untouched when we checked out. We never drank the two $4.00 bottles of water and they never informed us that we would be charged for them regardless of if we used them or not. While this Hyatt is located in a prime area, be sure to check out other hotels in the area. If you do choose to stay at the Hyatt Centric French Quarter then be sure to ask for an itemized bill and verify everything before you leave the hotel. Regretfully, we feel taken advantage of by this hotel. Collapse

Hubs and I stayed at this Hyatt Centric for 5 nights during Mardi Gras and had made memories! We reserved the breakfast/ balcony package several months prior and we recommend doing this. The breakfast pricing allows for so much food that we didn’t need to eat again until dinner! Their Bloody Mary is an absolute necessary experience! It is a freaking food-bar! Spiced shrimp, bacon, olive, pearl onion, cucumber, celery, pickled green bean, AMAZING!!!! The location was perfect. We were able to walk to all the great quarter locations. Our balcony was at the beginning of Bourbon and when the pail drummers started, it could get noisy, but there are noisy deafening curtains in the room, along with ear plugs. We are looking forward to experiencing this hotel again! Collapse

Booked Burbon Balcony on a business trip and to enjoy Pre-Mardi Gras. I didn't feel the balcony rooms were worth the extra cost. Noise was not as bad as expected. Being on the start of the street it is rare that there is a crowd gathered and only a couple of the balconies are lower level the rest are several stories up making it hard to interact and do any bead exchange. If I had it to do over again I would not have paid extra for the Bourbon Balcony. Further, the hotel had an unpublished ridiculous policy (were made aware of it with a flyer the day before) of not allowing guests to have visitors on the hotel property without paying a $35 per day fee for the privilege of having a visitor. Get real, have these people ever been to Vegas?... All of the convenient entrances were fenced off and locked forcing us to exit using the main entrance of the building walking an extra distance to get to Bourbon Street or Canal Street walking past trash from the restaurants, cooks and staff on the street taking smoke breaks and so-on which wouldn't be too bad but it was raining a good bit and would have been nice not to walk completely around the building when there are other entrances they blocked off from being utilized. (hint.. put security at your elevators and let people come in and out and have a good time. Further, as a Hyatt World member, I stay probably 20-30 nights at Hyatt Properties per year.. many lower-cost hotels treat me much better in terms of privileges and understanding of how the program works. Upon checking I always ask so I know. At this hotel, I was advised incorrectly on several items and upon checkout had to press to get charges removed for things I was told were included. They fixed it but just a hassle. I stay alot at Hyatt House and Hyatt Place and I felt this should have been a step up from those properties and somehow expected a more special experience. I really didn't feel it at all. The meeting food was really good. Also the food we had at Powder Sugar was good, especially the pastries. Housekeeping was great, didn't notice them and they were not banging on doors waking us up. When we came back room was always back in order. Front desk staff was professional but often seemed flustered and to me it felt like they were not properly supported or trained to be honest. Just felt disorganized and not the same professional feeling I have had at other properties. Went to the bar to ask questions about drinks and what food could be ordered there. The guy behind the bar seemed unfriendly so we moved on and spent our money elsewhere. Attitude and culture comes from the top down. The people we interacted with seemed like good folks but something felt off for us... maybe we are just spoiled from other experiences where we aret treated and feel welcome. Collapse
