The location is absolutely fantastic just off the Magnificent Mile. The rooms are clean and modern. We also greatly enjoyed the complimentary evening snacks and drinks on weekdays. Staff here and during breakfast time were very friendly. However, we were sharing a Suite as a group of four and the sofabed was a catastrophe. Incredibly uncomfortable and not even long enough for a taller woman, let alone a man. We ended up putting the mattress on the floor and building another out of sofa cushions. Despite advertising it, the hotel does not provide extra beds for fire safety reasons. Some staff at reception and maids were not very friendly. We had to ask them to refill coffee and toilet paper and then they brought way too little. The breakfast was good, but not brilliant. I would have appreciated some fresh vegetables and wholemeal options. Overall, good, but expensive and not great. Collapse
Cold and drafty - stunning view...

Check-in, arrival service, check-out and departure service worked smoothly and the location at the MagMile is excellent. The room had a magnificent view on two sides - one of them towards the lake. The windows are not insulated though, so you have to run the very noisy room heater at full effect to keep the heat in the room. Turn off the heater and the room was icy cold within 5 minutes. The bed was comfy and everything worked well in the bathroom. The room had convenient outlets for charging devices. Breakfast had eggs and bacon. All in all this hotel does in my view not give good value for the money. Collapse

Hotel has a great location! The check in process was a little annoying because there are desks for both Homewood and Hilton. The Hilton desk was staffed by three and the homewood desk wasn’t staffed. We had to wait for one of the Hilton folks to come check us in. I did get text messages from the hotel throughout our stay checking in on us, which was nice. And the food was great at both the breakfast and the dinner. Collapse

This is the second time we’ve stayed at the Chicago-Downtown Mag Mile location and it will be our last. From digital check-in to departure, the stay was so much less than we would expect from a Hilton property. We had requested extra towels and pillows at check-in and received text notification that the request would be fulfilled. It wasn’t. I made another request at the front desk during my stay. Another promise that the extra towels and pillows would be sent to the room … they weren’t. When first entering the guest suite (room 2405), the stale cigarette smoke smell was overwhelming. Combined with the excessive cleaning products to mask the stale cigarette smoke odor, the room smell was less than desirable. As this is a non-smoking hotel, it was disconcerting that the smell was even there. And then to have to endure that smell throughout our stay was awful. I was told that the room would be thoroughly cleaned the next day – it wasn’t. The smell was there the next day just as much as the extra pillows and towels were not. What made it worse is that all of our belongings smelled like cigarette smoke throughout the trip and even in the suitcases when we returned home on Sunday. The issues didn’t stop with cosmetic concerns. The elevators at this hotel are horrible. In both our previous trip and in this stay, the wait times at the elevators are unacceptable. The first day we waited over 20 minutes for an elevator to arrive. The elevators wouldn’t even stop with a full car. We’d just stand there [on the 24th floor] listening to the elevator cars go up and down and not stop at our floor. There is as sign in each elevator alerting of optimal times to use the elevator making it very obvious to us that the hotel management is very cognizant that their elevators are quite inefficient. The second day yielded a 30-minute wait for the elevator which leads to the issue with the breakfast. On the first day we left our room in plenty of time to arrive at breakfast before it closed at 10:00 AM. However, with the extended wait time for the elevator (again on the 24th floor), we arrived at the breakfast room with just a few minutes left before it closed. The staff managing the breakfast was less than friendly and not at all shy at letting you know that 10:00 AM is closing time. The first day we were having the food options removed while we were dispensing food from the chaffing dish and/or cereal bins. I understand they have been there for hours, but Collapse
