I have stayed here before and the quality of the rooms haven’t changed, the service excellent, the wine superb, sadly the food is awful. Ordered a steak £ 23 and you get just a steak and a few chips, there wasn’t any flavour to the rib eye just a steak on a plate. See attached photo. Ok so let’s get go to bed and hope breakfast is better- no sadly not, the orange segments had gone off, poached eggs were hard boiled and bacon with no flavour - infairness the restaurant manager removed the breakfast charge. Improve your quality of food as it is letting you down Collapse

Stayed here on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th Apri 2018 as part of a large party of guests attending my sons wedding at another venue. Have to say that its a nice hotel for my taste. Had a superior room that was large and comfortable. Found the bar off the lobby adequate and service was good. In fact everything would have been fine if not for the food which was nothing short of abysmal. Ate in the evening as part of a table of nine in the downstairs grill restaurant. Had a hot starter and a hot sandwich both of which were stone cold. Sandwich was more bread and lettuce than the steak it was billed as. Everyone at the table was less than enthused with the food -the most common complaint being that it was served cold. Breakfast the next morning was ruined by the fact that all the supposedly hot food was cold or at best lukewarm- if this is typical of the hotel then they need to supply a microwave. At a discounted pre booked price of £13/ person or £16 on the day then its terrible value for a poor attempt at a hot breakfast. In fact it was so bad I asked for a refund for the following day's pre booked breakfast and decided to have that in the morrisons supermarket which was just down the road- and it was fine, hot and only £4.00. Hope the food improves because I doubt it can get much worse.- If I had to stay here again I would have to say eat elsewhere unless your fine with cold food.Pity really because everything else was ok. Stayed here this month so that we could visit relatives in surrounding area. Very well looked after at reception and servicing of our room. Likewise Ben in the breakfast room was extremely helpful. As was the chef when I asked on a daily basis for a cooked item not readily available. Leisure facilities included fitness room/ gym and pool. Pool area included jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. All excellent. There was a golf course attached to the hotel but due to family visits and inclement weather we did not use this facility. Only disappointment was the main dining room was closed in the evening without comment. There was food available in the sports bar / golf bar but the menu was not as expansive as one shown for main restaurant. All in all a good venue. Staff excellent. First class choice at breakfast. Main Restaurant closed and not made clear. Zest restaurant only serving food, average at best, not a place I would choose to eat in twice. Staff friendly and mostly well trained Too many cups plates and tables not clean. 1st day breakfast poor due to being a chef down apparently. Bills continually wrong, always in hotels favour. Just not as we had hoped. Other stuff wrong but I can’t actually be bothered to complain, we just will not return. Collapse

Pleased with our room and the amenities. The communal areas; although quiet during our stay, are pleasant. A couple of issues: attempted to dine in the 1st floor cast iron restaurant on both nights. The first night; despite booking in advance - the girl with dark hair and a nose ring was very unpleasant to us as on arrival she could not find our booking. Second night despite a waitress taking our table booking - arrived to be told they could not accommodate us! Ended up going to the local town for a very last minute meal and enjoyed it immensely. The pool area like so many hotels attempts to be too many things at once, children’s swimming lessons at the same time as spa days/hotel guests. Ignorant parents taking babies into the jacuzzi - when the Marriott very clearly sign post no one under 16 permitted. Could be excellent with a bit more attention to detail. Collapse
