We arrived during a wedding party and had to wait a long time to check in because there was a massive queue. But once the room was sorted out we enjoyed it very much. The room was simply but cleanly furnished, had a good tv and the beds were firm but comfortable. We were in the basement so the view wasn't great but the walls were solid brick so no noise from neighbours to disturb our sleep. One minor inconvenience was that the electric point was on the opposite side of the room to the mirror which made hairstyling a bit of a challenge. We ate in the restaurant and the food was awesome - perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. I have quite complicated dietary requirements and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. This hotel has a lot of potential and i hope it gets to fulfil it. Collapse

We stayed two nights here, 11th and 12th May2018. O the Saturday afternoon I reported that water was coming through my bathroom light in room 23. No-one came to look and I had to use the towels to mop up the floor in case my disabled wife slipped. On the Sunday morning water was still coming through the light and as we had used the towels to mop up we had no clean or dry towels for a shower. Is this the kind of service to expect from a hotel which charges almost £100 per night?? Not even an apology!!!! Collapse

Came to stay for a friends wedding. The bathroom had cracked floor, pubic hairs in the bottom of the bath, and strange marks on the walls. The service at breakfast was non existent and we had to chase staff round for 10 minutes to get a cup of tea or coffee with our breakfast. The cutlery and dishes used at breakfast all had some sort of dirty mark on it and sadly the breakfast didn't quite make up for it. Overall I think it's a push to call this hotel 3* I think at best it is slightly better than a youth hostel, purely from the point of view that it has an en suite in the room. Collapse

Hi, we visited for a family event. We all enjoyed an amazing afternoon teas purchased via Groupon. The value of this deal was amazing for quality & quantity of food and drinks served at the hotel. The staff were wonderful and so very welcoming, nothing too much trouble, politely kept popping back to us to ask if we would like any top-ups etc. Well worth a visit to this lovely hotel & restaurant. Thank you to the team at Hollin Hall & we look forward to seeing you again. Collapse

Our one night stay, including cream tea with Prosecco, three course dinner, bed and breakfast was gifted to us, so it would be rather churlish to be too negative! However, for the benefit of others and hopefully for the hotel, some things need to be highlighted. The position and front façade of the hotel are suitably impressive although the front entrance door with its green peeling paintwork gave notice of what may lay beyond. The reception area seemed rather inadequate, almost temporary, but nevertheless we were at least expected! As we arrived early, we chose to have the cream tea before checking in to our room. No Prosecco was offered, but the scones with jam and cream were fine. The interesting part began when we went to our room. From reception we were directed up 19 steps, turn right and follow the signs to room 31. The stair carpet had not seen a vacuum cleaner for a while and was worn and frayed. Following the signs took us down 18 steps to a corridor at the rear of the main building. On entering, the first thing of note was the view - a brick wall, about 18 inches from the window and covering the whole outlook! all it needed was a few bars and we could have been in the Scrubs! The room and en-suite were clean if somewhat basic. Only one large towel and a small hand towel, two pillows on one side of the bed, one on the other. Switches for the overhead lights were both on one side, though it meant virtually getting out of bed to turn them on/off. The radiator did not appear to give out any heat even though on the highest setting, fortunately there was a fan heater in the room, maybe provided to compensate! Having said this, the bed was large and comfortable and we had a good night's sleep. On the positive and commendable side, both the evening meal and the breakfast were excellent. There seemed to be a shortage of staff, with one lady appearing to do everything at breakfast time. On checking out, the receptionist overlooked the extras on our bill and had I not drawn her attention to it, we could have left without paying. If this is a regular occurrence it may account for a lack of funds to meet some of the shortcomings! We are not planning a return visit. John and Ruth Scarsbrook Killamarsh N. Derbyshire Collapse
