A little bit out of the way but if you’re happy to dine at the hotel then you won’t go too far wrong. Nice and modern with comfortable rooms. Plenty of parking and good food/drink choices. Efficient and helpful staff too.

An excellent hotel, but a bit further from the city

Holiday Inn Winchester For my review bias, for the last 15 years I have stayed approximately 50-100 nights a year in the Intercontinental / Holiday Inn Group chain. Date of stay 8th January 2018 My ongoing experience of the hotel is as follows: 1) The hotel was exactly where the Sat Nav (TOM TOM) instructions said it was. 2) There is a large free onsite carpark that surrounds the hotel at the front. 3) On arrival at the hotel, the check in clerk Olivia was pleasant and friendly. As a SPIRE rewards club member, I received access to the free WIFI and choice of a rewards points voucher or alternatively if you wish you may choose the option of a free drink at the bar instead. 4) As a Spire member however, I was NOT automatically upgraded. I was given room 330 to check into as NO upgrade rooms were available. 5) All areas including the bedrooms were always well kept, tidy and clean. My praise goes to housekeeping team for the cleanliness of the rooms and in general in the hotel 6) My room 330 was clean and well maintained, and in keeping with the IHG brand standards. (see the photos) 7) I had the chicken burger and paid a little extra for the truffle chips which are to die for (my praise goes to the chef) SEE PHOTO 8) Breakfast is an additional cost (cheaper if booked in advance or breakfast voucher purchased at check in). The quality of the breakfast on par with other Holiday Inn's; catering from the full English option to fresh fruit salad and yoghurts, sliced cold cuts and cheese & pastries, 9) Check out, was straight forward and hassle free with the clerk Hozier. In summary, the hotel scores 9/10 for a good Holiday Inn branded hotel with surprisingly excellent food. Collapse

Overnight stop over. Hotel is about 12 minutes from Winchester. First impressions, welcoming reception area , speedy check in. Large room, double bed, desk, office chair & comfortable chair. Bathroom with overhead shower. Bedroom looked clean, desk had several chips . Initially bathroom looked clean when we checked in at 6:30 we only had a quick look but in the morning noticed that the plastic on shower door was filthy & taps had scum around. We had a meal downstairs in the evening. Served by a very pleasant and friendly young lady. There was also a young lad that seemed to be in training & he too was pleasant. Very attentive & a credit to the hotel. Starters:- We had a sharing platter of breads with Olives, sun dried tomatoes, olive oil & balsamic dip, pesto & oil dip with salad garnish & butter. It was lovely. Mains:- Fish & chips , very nice -wish bigger chains would do Home made chips though. Husband had venison served with salad , potato & what tasted like sweet cake? He had a side of Parmesan chips but didn’t need them so they weren’t eaten. A large wine and a cider-bill was about £60. Service charge is added but we gave extra as the youngsters serving were great. Breakfast:- The usual self serve including fruit, meats, cheese, full English etc. Plenty of juice available & water. They kept replenishing as needed. Bacon was back or streaky & eggs scrambled or fried. Nice to have the choice. You can ask for gluten free bread / toast which is brought to the table. Staff polite & efficient. Breakfast on weekends is served until 10:30 & check out is 11. After breakfast we went back to collect our things and the key fob wouldn’t work. I wasn’t happy as I have arthritis and find standing difficult. I had to wait for hubby to go back to reception to get it done. Why do they do that? The busiest time in that restaurant looked as if it was 10-10:30, do they expect you to check out before breakfast? Not impressed with that. A few things weren’t ok but I’d still stay again because overall it’s a nice hotel. Collapse

Congratulations - your search for the best place to stay has ended! My family found The Holiday Inn to not only be an excellent, comfortable, polished, professional, top-rate hotel accommodation, but it was truly a home away from home. Warm and welcoming in every way. The staff is friendly, attentive, and a pleasure to communicate with - from the front desk staff, to room service, housekeeping, and the restaurant / bartenders. Everyone took very good care of us. The rooms were clean, a nice size, and incredible comfortable. We are from Los Angeles, California and have traveled quite a bit and I have to say that the beds, the pillows, the comforter was the most comfortable we have experienced. Every member of the family got the best rest we've had in a long time. And the showers were the best we've ever had - ever. Our kids are usually reluctant to take a shower, but they wanted to take showers here as much as they could. Me too. This was our kids' first trip to England - and Winchester is such a charming, perfect town - we called it "a real life Disneyland." We traveled to London (about an hour away) and even took a day trip to Paris. With everything we did and saw, I honestly believe staying at the Holiday Inn, Winchester was at the very top of our trip highlights list! We wish we were still there and we will be back as much as possible. My only way of thanking them properly was to write this review and help lay out the red carpet for other guests. The Holiday Inn brand - the company - would be wise to have all there other hotels, especially those here in the states, follow the example of this location. I don't want to "over sell it" - but the experience was the best in every way. We are grateful we found it. My point is we had a relaxing, friendly, stress-free experience. Clean, large, professional, warm and personable. It brought our family closer together, gave us wonderful nights rest for a week, took good care of us. No surprises, no problems. It's a location where you want to be. - The Biederman Family P.S. We made the mistake of first booking an Airbnb location in Winchester ("Rosie," Winchester, UK). This was our first time trying to use Airbnb and it was a nightmare. Airbnb is a good company, and they are working hard to get us our money back, but it can be hit and miss. The profile made her place look ideal, but the reality was much different. We couldn't get out of there fast enough. Finding the Holiday Inn, Winchester was heaven. Collapse
