Hotel is quite old on the outside but well located and inside had a very modern and luxurious feel to it. Was allocated a refurbished room which was very comfy and well appointed and very very quiet. Check in was possibly the best experience I have had in a hotel for a long time courtesy of sue who is an absolute superstar and ultra professional. If management read this she deserves every plaudit possible Breakfast was disappointing if I’m honest and not worth the money. But overall breakfast aside a great hotel and super stay and would stay again. Collapse

The Royal Victoria has always welcomed me and made me feel at home when I am away from mine. It is going through substantial renovation at present but the staff try so hard to please that it isnt hard to ignore the upheaval in certain areas of the building. They strive in every way to minimise the impact for guests and that means a lot to me after a long drive up. Collapse

Sheffield can be justly proud of the friendliness of its people. From the railway station staff, the taxi driver, the M&S sales staff, the barber doing what's right for visitors and the excellent staff at work in this hotel. It's in a central city area, with lots of parking and nearby trams, buses and trains well served by roads and all means of communications . It has an inner city edge and feel to the neighbourhood. It's post industrial recovery and reinventing goes on. I came here to do some soul searching, and to surrender my care and well being to a hotel. Well its cheaper than private care and quicker than therapy. I needed time out to have a different sense of perspective on things in my life. I succeeded here, when illness, disability, problems, health get you really down, stand back, in all senses of the word. So I booked arguably the best room here. The 1862 suite. Photos attached. I ordered from the room service menu 4 meals during my stay, and they were very nice indeed. I had, on my first night a seafood mix grill and cheese board. Then the ham hock and mustard mash followed by the cookies and cream cheesecake on the second night. Both breakfasts each morning were good and a lovely waitress in attentive attendance. I holed up in this huge suite armed with a phone and a huge pad of hotel paper. Setting to work with no interruptions save for room service.. By my second day in the afternoon I had become very relaxed and at peace once again. I had several possible solutions to work, life, and health. I celebrated with some garlic bread, nachos and ice cream from room service. A big thanks to Joe the waiter, who works incredibly well and hard to keep a roof over his head. And the invisible housekeeper who cleaned up the mess I made and replenished the vital consumables. She was excellent and totally understood her role and job. Working unobtrusively, yet caringly. Not touching my stuff I was in the middle of writing and reading. She even left me a note which was lovely. I always think it is best to tip every day of a stay, because of shift work and it may motivate a person who is doing a good job. It's also fair. I tell you all this for unpromising a stay here might be perceived to be, having no beach or natural wonder. For me it was exactly what I wanted, expected, and it was on budget, SMARTER in its objectives and outcomes. I also think that you attract what you give out. This trip was two personal away days, it was an effective way of dealing with a number of problems. Most people go away on holiday to forget, I came here to face my problems. This is a great business location for meetings, conferences and events. You can concentrate on the issue, whilst well supported by the team of staff here. It was the first time I had a jacuzzi, and the first time I have booked a suite in an hotel. And a first time to a city I am sure to return to under different circumstances, and situations. I saw a most beautiful new dawn here, photo attached. Collapse
