This was my 5th stay at the hotel in the last few years and I was shocked to be told that I was not getting the room with a view of the Eiffel Tower and Balcony for which I had a paid confirmation! I booked a room with queen bed and Eiffel Tower view/balcony a month in advance of my stay. However, when I arrived at about 10 pm on a Wednesday night, I was told “congratulations — we have upgraded you”. Since I have only minimal status with IHG I was surprised but after ten days on the road, an upgrade seemed like welcome news — at least at first. I responded that I was thrilled, as long as the “upgrade” also included the view and balcony that I had reserved and paid for. After some humming and hawing, the desk clerk - a pleasant young woman but obviously empowered to do NOTHING on her own - said no, I had been “upgraded” to a room on the first floor (not floors 6-8 where Eiffel Tower rooms are) with no view, and no balcony. She explained that it was an “upgrade” because it had a king bed rather than a queen bed. Seriously??? As a party of one, I informed her that I did not care about a bigger bed, and I wanted the room I had booked and paid for with the view and the balcony and did not want the alleged “upgrade”. Oh too bad, all those rooms were taken she said. So I was very unhappy. I book and pay for a room and get a confirmation of exactly what I booked, and the hotel decides to “upgrade” me from a room with a view of the Eiffel Tower and a balcony, to a room with no view, no balcony on the first floor across the street from a very loud bar and that is OK, all without telling me until I arrived? At first the clerk said that the hotel had the “right” to upgrade anyone anytime they saw fit since it was a betterment. I told her that was absurd, and that no one would view a slightly larger room as a “betterment” in these circumstances. I also asked her to show me where it said that in their reservation materials and she quickly changed course. I asked to speak with the manager, but she said she was not there and that calling her would do no good as there was nothing to be done. There were no rooms of the type reserved available. I told her I expected one to be found ASAP the next day. They did move me the next day to the room type I had reserved, but were wholly unapologetic about the whole affair. The gentleman at the front desk again told me that they had nothing to apologize for as I had been given an “upgrade” presumably for which I should be happy. When I told him that no one on planet earth would regard the room on the first floor across from the loud bar as an “upgrade” over the room with a view and a balcony that I actually booked, he then said that the room I had booked originally had a “plumbing problem” and that they gave me the next best room. Really? Now they are just flat out lying. This makes me furious. I told him they should be ashamed of themselves for (1) deceiving me and (2) lying about it when caught red handed. He said they would move my room and tld me I needed to pack everything up before noon. He was extremely curt and thoroughly unapologetic. I packed up all my stuff. Very annoying! When I returned to the hotel that evening my things had been moved, and I had a plate of cookies and an apology note from hotel for “the inconvenience” which actually just makes me even more angry. This apology was so hollow as to be ridiculous. It is basically “I am sorry you are unhappy”. Well who wouldn’t be? They lied to me, and they purposely failed to live up to their commitment, and their booking. And then , even worse, they assumed I was stupid enough to look at this as an “Upgrade”. That is insulting and disrespectful. If they truly had a plumbing problem (which I doubt) they should have said so when I got there. I understand these things happen. What they shouldn’t do is treat me as an idiot, and then have their staff act as if it is my fault for being unsatisfied! When I made a very big fuss, they offered me breakfast for my stay. Breakfast I will note is extremely mediocre. I would advise against it and go to the cafe next door, which is half the price and twice the quality. I never order the breakfast buffet here because it is overpriced and not very good. They did give me half off the first night’s say but before the manager writes back to this review and suggests it was because of their benevolence, it is because I demanded it when I was changing rooms. This was a raw deal, and they knew it. The half off does nothing for me, however, as I was not paying for the room to begin with. Though my employer will be happy I guess, at least until I take this off the list of approved hotels in Paris. I will contact the IHG folks to let them know that this is exactly how you alienate customers who otherwise love what you sell. I have written a number of good reviews of this hotel and it is a nice place with great rooms and a terrific location. But the minute I cannot get what I reserved, paid for and confirmed, and also not a straight answer from management of the hotel, I am finding another good deal in Paris, of which I am am sure there are many more. You don’t treat your customers, particularly the ones that return again and again, as if they are stupid sheep. Shame on you. Collapse

We stayed at two a Holiday Inns while in Paris. We chose to move to the other one when we extended our trip by 2 days. The room was decent but a bit small (as per usual in Paris). Our balcony was very nice and we did sit out there and enjoy some food but there was no actual nice view, just seeing the building across the street. The staff was friendly. It was just a decent hotel room with a price higher than what it’s worth. We weren’t big fans of the area this hotel is in, it’s very touristy. Tourist traps everywhere by this hotel. The other neighborhood we stayed in had a lot of close by shops to get food, this area has a lot of tourist restaurants instead. The big bonus - spend some time up on the rooftop! This view is amazing and a specialty among hotels in Paris. Grab a bottle of wine and some bread or cheese and sit up there. It’s wonderful! Collapse

This hotel is all about the location. Steps outside is bistros, take away food & a bustling neighbourhood. Our room had a wonderful large window that opened wide for fresh air & to a wonderful balcony with unbeatable view. Bed was comfy. Negatives, tiny wardrobe, no dresser & no hooks in bathroom or shelves for toiletries. Came back to find the room made up but our dirty wine glasses & glasses remained. No early morning coffee which was a big deal for us. That being said a big plus was the roof top deck to relax with a glass of wine & enjoy the sunshine after a long day of exploring & after a night out go up top to see the Eiffel Tour lights dancing. Do book if you won't be spending much time in your room or book the most expensive room they are roomier. Collapse

We loved where this hotel was located; in the middle of most everything, across the street from Notre Dame. VERY CLEAN. Close to many wonderful restaurants and most major tourist destinations. Upon arrival, after being up all night on the red-eye, the staff greeted us with the utmost of hospitality, and friendliness. Shout out to Dominque and Erika for ALWAYS being kind and helpful in any situation that arose! A definite asset to the IHG family! We were upgraded to a beautiful room that had a small, but quaint balcony where you could sit and look out over Paris and most especially the Eiffel Tower. Simply beautiful views!! Could not have asked for better. The only down side I would say after spending a week in this room with my husband of 37 years :) , is that the bathroom is VERY small, confined and not functional AT ALL. My toiletries which I placed on the only shelf above the toilet kept falling into the toilet ... We did not use the breakfast buffet nor the roof top bar - just ran out of time. OVERALL, we will definitely be back to Paris and when we do this is the place we will return to. Collapse
