Good location is everything. And trust me this hotel is perfectly situated both for business and generic touristic travels. In our case it took about 40 minutes and 11.60 euros to reach this place from Munich airport on train called S8. The hotel is not in the heart of Old Town but the Old Town is still in a walking distance, about 15-20 minutes of typical stroll. Surely you can take the same S-Bahn train as well, but it’ll be a ride for only two stations and 1.50 Euros to arrive Marienplatz. So why taking a train if you can walk a few minutes? In case you drive a car, this hotel has underground parking. Though I cannot comment about pricing, availability of parking lots and other conditions. ESSO gas station is nearby around a corner. My executive room was very cozy although I would not say it was spacious. Since I’m a kind of a “tea addict”, like I always write in over reviews, I was delighted to find a real electric tea kettle, tea bags and sugar. Although Munich locals said that tap water was potable, I found that upon boiling in the kettle it left traces of lime. If you need better water and I’d advise that you should buy a big bottle of water in grocery stores on the underground floor. Like I wrote before, thanks to very convenient location of this hotel, a couple of chain grocery stores (ALDI and HIT) can be reached through a passageway between the hotel and the S-Bahn train station. The breakfast was excellent! Cottage cheese, fried eggs, omelette, croissants, juices, selection of tea bags, sugar and its substitutes. For tea they provided teapots, which was very convenient. I cannot recall I saw them in other hotels. To my astonishment I found even real honey in honeycombs. This is first hotel where I found it. Even my favorite hot oatmeal porridge was cooked on demand. So if you are keen on such oatmeal porridge – don’t hesitate and ask the chef. Bathroom accessories like shampoo and shower gel were generic but decent. Iron and ironing board – everything was like in all normal business hotels. Safe box with digital keypad was useful for leaving documents and cash while we are enjoying city. Papers with A4 size easily fit there. The hotel provided complimentary Wi-Fi for all devices both in rooms and in lobby. It worked fast and allowed VPN to our corporate network and for video calls through Internet. The TV on the wall perplexed me a bit. Although the room brochure declared various languages in the TV, almost all channels were in German with some exceptions like CNN, Russia Today and France 24. However it was not a problem for me. Let me summarize. Is this a good hotel? Absolutely! What about the breakfast? One of the best! Did I sleep well? Without doubt! Collapse
Never again and it’s a shame. But They need to work on their service

The Holiday Inn Munich city center does not go down as one of my favorite stays from the mediocre arrival, and greeting everyone seemed busy and focused on some big conference that was going on, I felt like I was a small interruption to all this chaos and mayhem. I was greeted well thanked for being a loyal Spire member and offered a drink voucher or points as a welcome amenity. That’s as far as it went though I was given a pretty average room on the “club floor” the room didn’t seem to have any extra benefits to it, and if it did then I’m glad I wasn’t put on a non club floor as the rooms must be even more plain. I had a pre-request email sent to me to make my stay perfect and my usual request such as extra pillows etc was not done in advance so had to be organized afterwards. Sort of defeats the whole “we are looking forward to your stay and what can we do to make it perfect rhetoric” if it’s actually not done. We then went to our room and it was an average size on the priority club floor, OK the view is rubbish, basically all the room looked at other rooms, and down to a Main Street you will possibly contend with street noise, keep in mind your in the vibrant hub of tourist action so noise needs to be factored in. The room was very clean with an excellent Housekeeping that responded to a few requests I had and did everything seamlessly. It was with everything you might need to stay in and relax, its had Wi-Fi. I know it’s a small thing but there’s not even bottled water in the club rooms and for Spire Ambassadors it’s something they don’t do I was told at reception, it’s crowne plaza and InterContinental thing, well I say rubbish, as. I left it at that thinking it’s the only holiday inn I’ve ever stayed in that didn’t offer it. Whilst the check in was a poor start, I made some suggestions based on my previous experiences what they can do for Spire guests. Torsten told me that they are constantly looking at ways to improve and recognize their members and pass on the feedback to the GM, I felt confident with the busy conference he never got it. I suggested they revamp and ensure Priority check in, having their rooms pre allocated and checked in prior to their arrival should be one of their main focuses, along with their welcome card and their points balances. Which I didn't get. I'm sure they do this, but they need to make sure they are Looking ahead the day before to look at upgrades and prefered rooms for their regulars. If they do have a Priority Club check in section which would fast track any members if there was a line at the check in. But it's not entirely clear or marked well, the plastic sign on the desk could be a priority advertisement for all it's worth. So then to the restaurant we went down and sat in the restaurant and after 15mins where given, by some very busy staff member menus, they where aware we were there. It took a further 32 minutes before I decided to go to the counter stand behind four people paying individually and not knowing exactly what they did and didn’t have to place my order. It was a shambles. 20 mins on, so more than a hour after being there we received an over cooked and dry €20 hamburger and warm goulash soup. It was the worst meal I have had in a holiday Inn in Germany and they are usually all very good. The restaurant within this Hotel is mediocre, the service here is definitely Hot and Cold as was the food and I would not recommend it. Breakfast buffet was ok not the best I’ve had in Germany and no pancake machine but the service perfect, and eggs cooked well. The conference people where allocated their own function room so it didn’t affect the breakfast service fortunately. So the one big positive was the lovely lady with the most wonderful smile and great breakfast service. Collapse

No surprises in this Holiday Inn. Friendly reception, good breakfast and comfortable bed. Public transportation pretty close. No the best area in town but not the worst either. There are good restaurants within walking distance.
