Great resort marred by timeshare hard sell

Echoing most on here; the resort is excellent but the check-in is very frustrating. We were hoodwinked into speaking to a timeshare rep who attempted to badger us into sitting in on a 90-minute "sell". We were told it was to complete our check-in and obtain our car park pass. We were then offered $20 off show tickets or the high roller but if we attended the timeshare presentation then it's $100 cash in our hand too. We politely said we wasn't interested but they then badgered my eight year old daughter implying that her parents should take the $100! This was really unacceptable and we declined a further FOUR times before they realised they wasn't getting anywhere. Check-in aside the two-bed apartment is excellent especially only being two blocks from the strip and in easy walking distance alongside The Linq car park to the High Roller. It would be a struggle in the heat of the day and the hotel provides FREE shuttle buses to three hotels along the strip (first come first served) or Fremont (book in advance), which is excellent. Master bedroom was huge with an ensuite bathroom with a massive bath. Second bedroom equally big with the bathroom across the corridor. Spacious living area and kitchen with everything you need. Huge fridge with ice maker. Unlimited free wifi to boot! The only quibble is that one of the five pools is closed until 2018. Also the main pool was shut for maintenance for the first two days so a little squeeze to use one of the three remaining pools. Once main pool was open there was ample available beds or chairs to use and towels provided in your apartment. You get the usual scenario where people leave towels on beds all day and disappear for hours, which is banned but ignored but we were happy using a chair instead. Would highly recommend the resort if you're visiting Vegas as the same standard and size of room on the strip would be 4x or 5x times the price and it's more laid back and calm than the hectic pool party atmosphere. This is our favorite place to stay in Las Vegas. In winter, we booked a 2 BR unit through an Air B&B owner. When we returned in summer, we booked through Holiday Inn. The only difference is through Holiday Inn, you are greeted and treated as a tourist, and time-share sales people can be very aggressive. The sales woman was polite, but would not take "no" for an answer. We said "no" to sitting for a 2 hour sales pitch at least 8 times. She offered show tickets, restaurant credits and $100 cash. We still said no. Other than that, we love this place. Clean property, nice pool areas with warm water and decent hot tubs. And, the pool areas are open until midnight. It's just under a half mile walk to the Strip via Winnick Ave., which puts you right at center strip between The Flamingo and The Linq, across Las Vegas Blvd. from Caesar's Palace. We saw a concert and a show at Caesar's on different nights and walked over and back both times. The Venetian, The Palazzo, Bellagio, Mirage and Treasure Island are all within reasonable walking distance. This property has shuttle busses to the further away casinos (Tropicana, MGM, Luxor, Excalibur, Mandalay Bay area) and to Downtown Fremont Street. It does not, however, provide shuttle to-from the airport. It's about $20 to cab ride from the airport, maybe less on Uber or Lyft. The restaurant/pub on site is small, and drinks are a little expensive, but the servers are super nice, the food is good and portions are large. There's a small convenience store on site with high prices, but it's convenient. The Westin is about 2 blocks away, with an Enterprise Rent-a-car location in it, so it was an easy walk there to rent a vehicle to drive to other sight-seeing outside of Vegas. Really... this has become our spot. We'll probably never stay anywhere else in Vegas. Collapse

Having arrived after a long and hot drive from LA our first experiences were of (a) a really miserable security guard telling us where to park (b) a slow and grumpy check-in where everything seemed too much trouble and then - worst of all (c) an escorted walk across the lobby to a time-share sales person (disguised as a "vacation station") trying to persuade us to sign up for a presentation (=hard sell) in return for money off vouchers. What on earth are you thinking about Holiday Inn?!? As guests we should expect a warm welcome not a pressure sales pitch on arrival. Not pleasant at all and not something we wanted to deal with on arrival. As per the other reviews the location and rooms/suites and pools are great. We booked through booking.com for the free breakfast offer but didn't spot in the small print that it only covers 2 adults in the party so we had to pay for an extra 3 each day. Watch out for that one. So, overall OK but could be brilliant if they drop the sales pitch and cheer their staff up! Collapse
