Company booked the hotel. Initial welcome...what welcome, stood at reception desk for 10 minutes before bing attended to, staff more interested in football than with customers trying to book in. Got into the room, tv not working, spoke to reception who brought up additional remote control and spare batteries and still no tv. Washed prior to going to bed and no plug in the sink. Tried to plug in charger for phone and one of the sockets will not allow the plug to be pushed in firmly to charge the phone. Requested a double room and got a twin! Not one of the better holiday inns, as said facilities are really disappointing and lacking, staff are okay. Collapse

We stayed here as part of a two day break with National Holidays to see Strictly Come Dancing ,We went to Leeds then onto our hotel and on the way home we visited York, Hotel was lovely ,Bed was very comfy and room was nice , We went down for evening meal and was pleasantly greeted and asked where would we like to sit, There was melon. salad and soup for starters. For our main meal there was ham and chicken .My husband and i had the chicken it was very tough to eat .the veg was broccoli and peas and new potatoes ,The dessert was a chocolate cake and strawberry cake and /or cream which tasted diluted to us , it was decent enough when you consider how much we paid for our break ,We then went to see our show it was fantastic our seats were high up and there was a screen either side of the stage ,We returned to the hotel the bar was still open so we had a drink then went to bed ,We went down to breakfast and was again greeted pleasantly the cooked breakfast was lovely ,I had the melon ,small slice of ham ,cornflakes and a small amount of a french stick i also had Cranberry juice ,I went back to my table and picked my bag up to get my tablets out and before i had got my tablets out i was informed by a member of staff that if i took any food out then i would be charged for a packed lunch ,This has upset both of us a lot and took the shine off our holiday ,There were plenty of napkins on our table my husband had got them for me as i shake and spill things and he got them so i could wipe myself right away if i needed too,I know of others that have actually taken food and even said out loud they were taking it .All i will say is dont tell me i will have to pay for a packed lunch if i am taking food out without some form of proof ,Before we left to go to York i mentioned the above to the receptionist and what we were told about the packed lunch and she was very apologetic and said she hoped we enjoy our trip to York ,I did ask her the name of the person who we had been talking to she did tell mebut i have decided not to mention her name ,Not everyone takes food !! Had a night away from Nottingham with my husband and at first we were really pleased with the location, then really pleased with the exceptionally friendly and helpful receptionist....sadly though our room was very basic with an awful view of the bins. This wasn't the worst part, there was a beeping noise from another room/part of the corridor outside that was consistently annoying until 5am. The room was not as clean as it could have been with coffee stains around the tea/coffee area both up the walls and on the carpets. Also, I had asked for a room that was lift/elevator accessible due to me recovering from a broken leg, the lift was near to our room but after e I ting you had a climb half a dozen steps to get to it....obviously, I was able to cope but if you are booking and need wheelchair access this would not be suitable. 4 of us stayed here in 2 rooms in early January the staff were great with great service and the breakfast good but one of our rooms sprang a leak in the toilet within 1/2 hour of arriving and we had to move rooms as it flooded the ensuite and into our room- which the staff did promptly Then the lift was put out of order for most of our stay - we were 3 floors up with 4 cases ! I really think HIExp should have offered us some form of compensation - but despite reviewing on their own site we have heard nothing from them - poor Collapse
