Just stayed on a IHG ‘reward’ points a program incidentally advertised all over the hotel. Spire members are supposed to get preferred rooms in return for loyalty to the IHG group so was delighted as I’m top of the program on Spire to be told at reception ‘we’ve upgraded your room’ then to find out I’ve in fact got the same room I booked and absolutely nothing else! At check out I was asked how I rated my stay and I told the receptionist about my disappointment to which she replied ‘oh well we will try and get you in one of our nice corner rooms next time’ We’ll that ship has sailed, I won’t return because you clearly mislead people saying they have ‘upgraded’ them when you haven’t and don’t respect the program or the members. At breakfast it advertises the ‘breakfast on the go’ but you can’t have a drink because they have run out of cups! The building downstairs looks a mess with the building work, and the main lights in the lift don’t work! Stayed at the Doubletree the night before and being the equivalent level (diamond) I got upgraded to a suite, proved water in the room and provided breakfast all for a cheaper rate than this HIX just wish I had booked there for 2 nights, lesson learnt. Before management post the usual ‘we will look after you on your next visit’ why don’t you get it right first time and when you have members telling your staff whilst on the premises why doesn’t the DM come out and discuss? This review is dedicated to the DM on duty on Friday / Saturday 12th/13th May! Collapse

My mother and I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, Swindon for the first time so as to see a show at the Wyvern Theatre which is approx. 15 minutes walk from the hotel. The train and coach stations and the town centre and outlet village are even closer. Check in was quick, efficient and welcoming and a small problem with our keycard was soon dealt with. The room, like the rest of the hotel, was spotless (could I borrow their cleaners?!) and comfortable, thought it's probably aimed more at business people rather than families or longer term visitors. Due to the hotel's position in the town it doesn't have any picturesque views and at present there is building work just outside the hotel entrance but it is excellent value for money and an ideal spot. Added to that all the staff we encountered greeted us with a "Good Morning/Afternoon" and a smile and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again or to recommend it. Breakfast was self service and consisted of cereals, cooked and continental with a very attentive staff member who cleared our plates as soon as we'd finished each course without being intrusive. An excellent touch was the takeaway breakfast for people on the go, no doubt this is done elsewhere but it's not something I've personally come across and would welcome other hotels doing it. All in all a very enjoyable stay with a 5* service., Collapse

What an interesting place. Firstly the parking was offsite so we had to drag our cases over. Then the bar doubled as a reception so after waiting for people to be served beverages, we finally received our keys. We had booked two separate double rooms. I went up to my room and had a twin room which connected to someone else’s room. This made me feel very uncomfortable. Nothing was said or done about this. The room and bathroom were basic and tired looking. There was “work undergoing” in the hotel which it very much requires however the timings shocked me. On paper they said there may be noise between 8am-6pm but I was rudely awoken at 7.20am due to building works. The hotel currently doesn’t offer phones in the room so left a telephone number to call down to reception but this didn’t work and I had to track down their number and go through the answering machine to speak to someone. The breakfast was average. The staff were friendly enough but the surroundings were abysmal. 2/5 Collapse

Stayed here for one night while attending a course at a nearby training centre. Staff very friendly & welcoming especially the young lady called Sarah who went out of her way to make sure our stay was a pleasant one. Evening meal was a little disappointing due to items not being available from the menu, which because of a small selection didn't leave alot of choice. Breakfast was a nice, plenty of cereal pastries, toast and a help yourself cooked items. Tea, coffee & fresh juice which was unlimited. Room was spotless, fresh smelling and very well presented and being on the fifth floor was away from the on going improvements going on throughout the building. Would stay here again if visiting the area ....... Collapse
