Arrived at hotel in the evening for. Showed my reservation booked by corporate. Was told the major company that booked my reservation never paid for it. They told this to others that arrived as well. The company that booked our reservation is a trillion dollar company here in the US. I asked them how it was possible to take a reservation from a major company like the one with no payment. Staff didn’t care and was rude and told us to figure it out. Spent 2 hours at lobby calling around corporate. The company faxed again the main credit card and apologized for the horrible service at holiday inn. They are considering stopping all business with holiday inn as the experience gave them a very bad reputation. The rooms were small. Shower door didn’t even close so water going everywhere when taking a shower. Front desk staff was super rude. Breakfast was ok. I couldn’t wait to leave the hotel Collapse

We recently stayed here for 8 days with our children aged 4 & 9 for Christmas & New year. Check in was fast and effiencent. This was our first trip to New York and I had read a lot of reviews before hand. We booked a non smoking room with a view, we were on the 15th floor with a perfect view of the Empire State Building. Yes the room was small which we expected but it was very clean and modern. The beds were comfortable and there was a great choice of tv channels, we had Nickelodeon which kept our 4 year old happy. Breakfast was ok.. food wise there was scrambled eggs, turkey sausages, bacon and an omelette which would be cheese one day and vegetable the next, fruit wise there was bananas and apples and there was bread with muffins. There were also 3 cereals and the pancake machine was good, my children enjoyed that. There was tea and coffee available 24 hours also. Staff were very friendly and our house keeping lady was lovely (I never saw her name). The hotel is in a great location, macy’s is literally around the corner and only a ten minute walking distance to Times Square, McDonald’s was also around the corner and we would sometimes eat out there or the cafe Toast next to it which served amazing food. We had a pleasent stay but would we return again? Probably not.. although the hotel is in a great location and it is very clean and modern with great staff if we return to New York we will most likely book somewhere else such as the Sofitel New York which we were not aware of when we booked this time, we stayed in there sister hotel in Dubai which was amazing. We had a pleasant and would recommend staying here if it’s your first time to New York as it is in the centre of everything. Collapse

It is Holiday Season in New York and tourism is way up. Most hotel rooms are small (unless you are really, really shoveling out money). It will not be the plushest best hotel bargain stay of your life, but solid enough if you plan ahead and align your expectations with New York reality. (Meaning some of the issues raised in reviews are just germain to NYC and hardly exclusive to this hotel, or certainly not this class of hotel). After all, they call it a Holiday Inn "Express". Even by New York standards the average hotel room in Herald Square/Times Square South area are small; perhaps smaller than average, and this one is no exception. But you get a walkable neighborhood with easy subway and bus connections, near Penn Station, and walkable distance to Broadway Theatre. (Management, when remodeling please use smaller night stands and TV stand/dressers, and say, make room for a second chair). Bedding was good if not over the top. Our floor was quiet. The comp breakfast had better than average hot offerings, and fewer than average cut fruit offerings. But please understand we're still talking mass comped breakfast not cooked to order. Staff interaction overall was good; but expect to share the elevator with staff. (Not all of whom shared well). Yes it was small and yes it is not a full-service hotel. Those things cost more. If they are important to you you need to go elsewhere and spend more. Can't quite go five circles it is so small, but I like that part of town and would go to this hotel again if the bookable rate was favorable to similar nearby alternatives. My only real complaint were the house computers. , Collapse
