First of all parking is complimentary for onsite paying guests but I found the car park to be very small given the size of the hotel. I booked a double room through booking.com and it was £56 for the night. I thought I’d be able to get my ihg points for the stay but you can only get them now if booking through the hotel directly and not through a third party. I was given room 309 on the first floor and it was huge! At first glance I looked at the bed and given the size of it I was rubbing my hands together as the bed was huge.. everyone likes a big bed that they can stretch out on! However as I sat on the bed the beds moved apart.. ie the big bed was actually 2 singles pushed together. The bed itself wasn’t too bad to sleep in but I needed to avoid going into the middle in the fear of falling in between them. The room had a reasonably sized bathroom however given the size of the room I feel that a bath would have been a nice touch if they made the room a little smaller and increased the bathroom slightly. The bedroom was massive and I found there to be too much floor space. The hotel has a bar which served either Stella or Becks larger and was resabably priced at £3.50 a pint. Breakfast is served each day and it’s a buffet all you can eat type with hot and cold offerings with ample table and chairs. The reception staff were friendly and welcoming. The hotel had 2 lifts which accessed all floors. if I’m ever in the area again I will definatly stay at this hotel again. Collapse

I had the misfortune to stay here recently for 2 nights with my wife and two children, as part of a larger group of relatives attending a local event. The check-in process was efficient, the room was clean, the beds and the breakfast were adequate, and the lifts worked. Sadly, that is the full extent to which anything remotely positive can be said about our stay. Numerous relatives had various problems, including cigarette butts found under beds, inadequate towel numbers and mouldy walls. One of my cousins had to move rooms 3 times. In our particular case, the toilet became blocked with little or no provocation and with alarming regularity. When I advised the front desk of the problem, I was told that no-one would be available to investigate it for the next 2 hours, but in the meantime I had a knock on the door from a member of staff who handed me a plunger and said I could sort it out myself. I couldn't. When (after 2 hours, with no plumber forthcoming) I eventually gave up and went down to reception to ask for an update, I was told that Maintenance didn't work after 4pm on Saturdays (presumably, toilets are incapable of malfunctioning after that point in time). Seeing my incredulous expression, the lady at the desk felt moved to add, "Well, this is a Holiday Inn EXPRESS, sir" (her emphasis), as though that was sufficient explanation for my predicament. Well, perhaps it is, madam. Perhaps it is. Collapse

A scroll through the reviews should beg the question why there are so many poor reviews. Having just stayed there for three nights, I am not surprised. How this hotel warrants three stars is mighty puzzling. It is difficult to know where to begin. In no particular order: 1. The tv permitted v few channels and the sound and picture were well below par. 2. It was mid winter but I could not get the heating system to work. The receptionist said she would tell the manager. I waited in vain for anything from the manager. I complained the next morning and was told that technicians would be sent. When I returned that evening, the window of the room was open and the aircon was flowing in at 15 degrees C. ! 3. The room had no bar and no fridge. 4. The reception service was generally overburdened and consequently slow. 5. My son’s family occupied another room where, twice, the toilet did not function and the shower drain smelled. His room was booked for a family of four yet they had mugs and towels provided for two persons. They secured extra mugs and towels but during the room clean the ectra mugs were removed. I see that adverse comments from others are met with standard responses to the effect that “we are sorry you did not FULLY enjoy your stay”( my emphasis) . I hope I wont be met with such a response as if these complaints are mild blemishes on an itherwise satisfactory experience. The only positive comments I offer is that my own room seemed clean and the breakfast was acceptable. The hotel makes good hot chocolate. Collapse

Overall a very pleasant stay but spoilt my managers arrogance. He was the only staff member who didn't greet us with a smile or friendly talk every time we came into contact. All other members friendly with a smile. Also manager very rude at check out when we had problems exiting the car park. Rooms clean and spacious. TV is small and sound was breaking on some channels. Breakfast spread more than adequate and staff quick to remove finished items from table. Didn't experience wait during our stay although can imagine at busy period it would be a struggle to find empty table.Breakfast times were general from 6.30 onwards and 7am weekend. They allowed us to start early on our last day which was great as we needed to get away promptly. Beverley deserves a special mention as he is a star- very friendly and helpful. Collapse

Modern hotel, nicely situated near public transport. Very helpful and pleasant staff. Provides a basic Kosher breakfast if requested. Some minor problems with the rooms, but was quickly dealt with. Good.
