Holiday inn express dusseldorf nord used to be not so bad, on the boarder of good for business. However I was amazed to find out the hotel is not properly maintained: the aircon didn't work, the shower shelf was broken so my shampoo fell and was spilt all over the place (had to buy a new one) ok it's my fault I placed it on the floor but that was because I didn't have any shelf to use to put my stuff on! Internet speed was decent when it was late and slow around the early evening. Lots of tourist groups with buses made the hotel crowded and noisy. Breakfast was not refilled and the fruits were undress. My worse experience in this hotel: I seem to have forgot my electric toothbrush at the hotel. Needless to say electric toothbrush is quite expensive, approx 50-100 EURO right? I called two days later to ask if I can come and pick it up to be told to call tomorrow, I called and was told it was not present in the "lost and found" collection, meaning the maid has literally threw it away! It's not a regular toothbrush it was a quite expensive one... so then I felt that the hotel has no value for my belongings.... they just lost me as a customer. I stayed there for 3 months two years ago when I worked in the area now I doubt it if I ever go back there. Collapse

We stayed at this property on 31 May 2017 and left on 2 June. The room was small but not too small and very clean and well appointed. The bed is unique: the top half is soft and the bottom half is firm. If you require a firm mattress, you must sleep with your head at the foot of the bed. For those techy readers, there is a bit of good German ingenuity in the room: a very clever door that closes off the commode when open one way, and which closes off the bathroom in the other direction. See it to believe it. Hard to describe. There were enough electrical outlets (often a problem in European hotels), but bring your adapters. We were on the first floor (which would be the second floor in the USA) and the room was quiet and nicely air conditioned. The outside could use a gardener. To have such a nice property with terrible outside care is not in the hotel’s best interest. There were weeds (believe me, I know weeds when I see them) galore and weeds growing up between the paving stones in the drive way and around the retaining walls. The small plots of grass were brownish and not well maintained. The breakfast was adequate for me since I need to restrain myself while “at table.” Others might find it a bit wanting. To add Belgian waffles might be a good idea without a lot of overhead maintenance. The person in charge of the breakfasts on both mornings was Ludea, who desperately needs a charm school class. She never smiled, never greeted the customers. My wife could not figure the cold water purifier and asked Ludea for help. Ludea accused my wife 3 times of breaking the machine and was quite disrespectful and rude, saying several times in different ways what amounted to, “Look what you have done. You have wrecked the machine.” The apple juice and orange juice machine produced warm juice, so basically undrinkable. On our first morning for breakfast, we got there about an hour before the end of breakfast and they had run out of hard boiled eggs. Plenty the next day. Cold cuts, cereals, warm milk, coffee, some good breads and condiments to accompany them. One nice thing is that we were able to park on the street in front of the building next door. No charge, no limit. If you want to pay for parking, it is 15 euros per night to park under the hotel. Free WiFi for 3 electronics. About 7 mb per second (enough to get the job done). Also, the subway is 1.5 blocks down the street to the right as you exit the motel. Just walk through the Mercedes used car (yep…I know – “previously loved”) lot and you can’t miss the subway stop. You buy the ticket on the train. We have a European Maestro (debit) card which we could use on the train. If you don’t have a chip and pin USA card that works over here, be prepared to pay cash. As usual, the trains run on time, frequently, are clean and quite safe. No one checks your ticket, but if the “ticket police” are on the warpath, there is a fine if you don’t have a ticket. Also, you must STAMP the ticket in the stamp machine when you use it. The subway map is easy to use. The front of the train and the electric signs on the street give you the END destination of the train. Just pick in advance what station at which you need to exit. For the Rhine river excursion boats, just ask the hotel clerk for the name of the station at which you should stop. The Schloss palace was interesting (we took the inside tour). Allow plenty of time to walk the gardens down to the Rhine. Have fun in Dusseldorf. Collapse

We stayed in this hotel from 28th May and left on 31st May. As a family we were assigned the family room. Check in was smooth and pleasant with no waiting at all. Lady on the reception was friendly and helpful. The room was good size, basic and clean no problem there at all, the kids bed was not done which I found strange. However when I inform the problem at reception, the front house staff was apologetic and offer the assistance and upon back from our dinner the room was done. Also there was only big sofa bed for two kids which we felt bit let down, why was there one bed for two kids which hotel knew in advance. This is the first time I faced this situation while travelling with the kids. The breakfast was cold and has very limited selection. This did not concern us we were eating lunch and diner out side . Overall our stay at this hotel was pleasant and enjoyable. We enjoyed free water and ice which was proved by hotel was a nice touch and gesture indeed. Collapse

This hotel was very reasonably priced. The room was decent in size. The hotel is located about one mile from the city center. I wouldn't say that Dusseldorf is very scenic, but this hotel is also not located in the bad part of town. The hotel offers garage parking for a price, but like many parking garages in Germany, it can be a tight squeeze. Outside street parking was difficult to find, but we did find it. The people at the desk and the service people were very cordial. Breakfast, which came with the price of the room was outstanding. No lunch or dinner was served. There was a small area which you could order a drink or beverage and sit down and enjoy yourself. Collapse
