The hotel is located on the university campus so follow the signs for the crickton as the gps is kind of wrong. With its odd location there are no restaurants or supermarkets within an easy walking distance so you have to drive. The restaurant is pretty good. We loved our meals and the service was great! A little expensive for what it is but ah well. Breakfast served in the restaurant was really great. We don't eat hot breakfasts and they supplied heaps of continental options. They had pastries, many cereal options and muffins. Pancakes are on the menu but to our disappointment they never appeared. The rooms are okay but need some serious renovation. The carpet was incredibly stained and looked really unclean. The beds were terrible and you sink straight into them. The one pillow barely counts so we had to ask for another one each. We slept okay here but probably only due to being exhausted. The bathroom is amazing! The shower is awesome with a bench for those who need it but if you don't it makes a great place to put shampoo and conditioner while washing your hair. The shower is a great temperature and water pressure as well! There is also plenty of room in the bathroom for toiletry bags and clothing. Collapse

I stayed here for three nights in may for work. Room was ok, usual type for holiday inn. Staff was very friendly. The grounds of the hotel are very well kept and are part of The Crighton which is now a business park, I believe formally a n asylum. One of the evenings My colleague and I went down to the dining room for dinner which we had booked earlier that morning and soon as we sat down the staff were rearranging the rest of the tables into a long line, they was expecting a large number of locals for a works do! We both felt that we were in the way and rather hurried through our meal as the staff wanted the table to sit on the end of there new line. I felt as if we were intruding and didn't feel welcome that night at all. The menu in the dining room is the same all week, in fact I was told that it hadn't changed for over a year or so(could do with updating). The next night we had a large influx of guests and it seemed to throw the staff a little as they seemed to be struggling to cope(could maybe need extra staff on) In the morning ready for my shower, oh no, water is stone cold, asked reception who told me that two of the three boilers had tripped out and he had to reset them, "The water should be ready in ten minutes". Well it wasn't half an hour later!! They could do a lot better with just a few more staff and updating that menu. Collapse

The hotel is set in the Crichton Estate which is beautiful. The hotel feels like a clash in this beautiful estate as it is modern and bright blue in colour! Guess the town planners had a good debate about building it! Anyway, this hotel is perhaps in the finest location of any hotel I have stayed in in the UK. The hotel is good for a Holiday Inn but expect simplicity and not boutique. I went running around the estate and down to the river which takes you into town. Awesome on a summer evening! (the river isn't the easiest to find so ensure you get accurate directions). Food was fine and not badly priced - would recommend trying the triple cooked chips (not for those on a diet!). Breakfast had a good selection. Room large, bright and well maintained. No bath but good shower. The aircon didn't appear to cool which was disappointing but typically British. The windows open and the car park and main road were very quiet during the evening. No fridge or mini bar. Free wi-fi but I could only get a signal by the window for my laptop. Didn't try video streaming so can't comment on bandwidth Very poor O2 mobile signal but obviously not the hotels fault! As usual, the Scottish staff were very friendly and helpful. Town is a few miles away so exploring a little will need to be by car (walking from the train station took 45 minutes). Picture is the view from the restuarant. Collapse

This hotel really is a little gem set in beautiful surroundings. The cleanliness of the rooms and hotel are exceptional and great credit must be given to the staff. A special mention must be given to Gary and Claire who provide exceptional service to guests of all age groups and I am amazed they are not running their own hotel. Its nice that they gave a Yorkshire man such a warm welcome and tips on the great food offered on the menu. I wish them well with their wedding in July and I wish I had asked for an invite because I am sure it will be a blast. Its so nice to be able to thank such staff and they and all of the other staff are a credit to this hotel. I cannot wait to return again to have the chicken curry again and as Claire guaranteed the crumble and custard was to die for. Collapse
