We only spent one night at this hotel but I would definitely recommend it. The grounds are beautiful. The room was clean and comfortable. We slept the night very well. Staff was really friendly and checked us in quickly and efficiently. We ate in the restaurant and had a couple of drinks afterwards and were very satisfied with the food and the service. All in all it was a great night's stay. Collapse

Due to unforeseen circumstances I needed a bed for the night and I chose this hotel. The hotel grounds and surroundings is stunning and very beautiful and you do think, on arrival that you're going to stay in part of the old building but by the time I parked my car you could see the modern bedroom extension to the back of the building. The interior of the main areas is a little worn but still very pleasant and clean. Check in was swift and easy but once I reached my room I had to go back down to reception as my room key did not work in the door. From what i understand this is a known problem and really should be looked at and fixed. The room itself was very spacious, clean and a very comfortable bed. My only criticism would be that the walls are a bit grubby and could do with a refresh. I slept well but I could hear the water pipes running from about 10pm to 11pm and again from 7am, I assume this is because of other guests showering. I could also hear noise from outside the room, people passing and doors opening and closing but overall this did not prevent me from sleeping. The bathroom was very clean and modern looking woth a big shower so plenty of room to move around in. There's also a tv, coffee making facilities and a iron all in the room. Breakfast is buffet style and offers a good range which I enjoyed. I enjoyed my stay here. It was very pleasant. If the few points I mentioned hadn't occurred then I would have rated the hotel excellent. Collapse

Up on a business trip I opted to stay here, it looked really nice on the website and the pictures did not disappoint, the fusion of modern hotel to the quite stunning restaurant and bar area was marvellously achieved. As a spire elite I was upgraded to a lovely executive room with all the trimmings including a massive bath! I decided to use the restaurant as it looked really nice, a drink outside to start with in the stunning gardens and then a nice table by the window in the restaurant. The staff were friendly and helpful but not over bearing, I always hate staff who continually try to up-sell all the time, nothing like that here. For starters I had the chefs recommendations off fish cakes with pea purée, I have to be honest and say they were a little bland and needed a bit more seasoning and a bit more of the lovely pea purée as the fish cakes were also a bit dry. For main I went for the quite delicious chicken supreme, with a really tasty chicken leg croquette, roasted vegetables and a quite delicious gravy, the only disappointment was the creamy mash with the dish was anything but, again rather bland and in need of more butter or cream or both and definitely some seasoning! But overall extremely tasty. With 2 beers the whole lot was around £33.00 in holiday inn terms not unreasonable. I normally have a glass of wine but large glasses were around £10 which seemed a little excessive. The breakfast in the morning was very tasty with the usual assortment of hot and cold items. Overall 4/5 is about right, I would certainly go back as the food apart from the potato elements was extremely good. Collapse
