The stay at the Holiday Inn was excellent with the accommodation and the food being just what we needed. The Bar snacks were well presented and were very reasonably priced. We used the hotel as a base for our visit to the NEC Gardeners World event and it helped add to an excellent weekend. We would stay again at a Holiday Inn Hotel based on this weekends experience. The breakfast was outstanding with fresh fruit salad and a good selection from the buffet service. Alternative choices cooked to order added to the choices. Collapse

Visited the safari park for the day, the layout of the park is very organised and we got to see and do everything. The actual driving safari took two hours as we visited on a weekend. There are quite a few food stalls around the park however make sure you have cash as they only take card for purchases over ?5 and the cash machine at the park charged you for withdrawing money. Stayed at the Holiday Inn in Bromsgrove, it was a really lovely hotel. The room was big and clean. If you did not want to eat in the hotel restaurant then there were plenty of country pubs around. What a strange place... The standards in this dreary hotel fall well below par. I was met with an empty reception on arrival and was about to telephone the hotel when a member of staff emerged. He made a play of pretending to find me an upgrade as a Spire Elite Member but apparently all the 'superior' rooms were full as the hotel was 'very busy'. Funny that, as the bar was empty, the restaurant was sparsely populated and the car park less than a quarter full. A quick check on the IHG website showed availability of 'executive' rooms. Seems he just couldn't be bothered. I had to chase up service at the bar as the staff were hiding in the back. On check-out I was told that they couldn't supply an invoice as the 'printer has gone down'. They promised to email me a copy but I'm still waiting. Clearly there are fundamental issues with staffing in this hotel. I'll leave them to it in future and take my custom elsewhere. Collapse

One person in double bed room: The room average size, with kettle on table with tea and coffee. Had to obtain extra sugar and UHT milk for the sachet coffee and tea. Most Hotels include a couple of packets of biscuits, it is something they should do. The kettle was on a table but there was no socket for the plug near it so had to use the main TV table that had two sockets. The small drink cabinet / fridge failed to have any drinks in it so possibly did not work. The bathroom was clean though lacked any additional toiletries due to a note reading that if items had been forgotten to ask at the front desk, a phone was available. There is liquid soap made available that is attached to the wall above the sink and another by the shower unit, via a hinge, good idea, just squeeze the soap tube. The room was set back from any noise though doors could be heard closing along the corridor (Twice so no problem). Double bed with a mattress that was too soft as were the pillows but still made for a good sleep, clean bright white sheets. There is a lockable safe for valuables. The curtains blacked out any light to ensure a quiet and light less sleep. Breakfast: Greeted by attentive staff for table placement and drink service. Full English or continental, with full range of additional food, cold meats and cheese, a selection of pastries and croissants with varies juices, yogurts and fruits. Cereals available. The only unwanted situation was that our breakfast table was too near where they were dusting and wiping their table matts and kept walking by. Suggest that this is done away from guests attempting to have a quiet breakfast. (Overall breakfast was very enjoyable with seating overlooking pleasant fields and trees) Using the gym and swimming pool: nothing worse than having a sign informing the sauna does not work when it is advertised as a facility, was looking forward to that so was a disappointment. Swimming was fine, though the pool was small and took three breast strokes to get from one end to the other, ended up swimming around perimeter, otherwise clean and well looked after though the pool water could have been clearer. The staff were fine and helpful. The exterior of the building could do with repair on side walls where cracks have developed in the masonry, this should always be maintained as it is the advertisement for the hotel. Plenty of parking spaces in a hotel that was easy to find on the main road and overall a very enjoyable stay. Collapse

We stayed here as we were at a wedding just down the road. We didn't get off to the best of starts when we tried to book in. There was only one person on reception and had to wait 20 mins for some attention. Although we had booked the hotel as room only for £80 per night we saw on the website that they were offering rooms at £45 per night for the same evening. We therefore explained this to the receptionist and asked for breakfast to be included. She said she couldn't or wouldn't I'm not sure which. We persevered and she finally called over the manager. He eventually agreed. The receptionist then went to give us our room key before the manager intervened and said he had allocated us with a different room. It was obvious that he had given in one hand and taken with the other. The room that we were allocated was on the lower ground floor and was in need of a refurb. As we were in a rush to get to the wedding we just let it go. However this was just the start of our dissatisfaction. We went to the bar for a quick drink whilst I ordered a taxi. They couldnt take plastic so I had to scrape together some cash. When I went to reception to book a taxi the girl rudely told me that I had to book it myself. It turns out that the hotel phone lines were down but this could have been explained with a little more courtesy. I thought breakfast was poor. Although I had requested soya milk on booking (I have an allergy) I was told they had run out! This limited my choices. The staff appeared untidily dressed with uniforms far to big for the staff. Also many of the uniforms were covered in stains which appeared to be longstanding. They were slow to clean up (a small child had left quite a mess on the floor & although the high chair was removed the mess was left). They could do with more training, when my husband asked for a re-fill of his coffee cup the waiter picked up the cup by the rim! Instead of the handle. Needless to say he refused to drink out of it. Reception staff & bar staff seemed inexperienced too. Collapse
