A 3 course meal and disco costing £54 per person on New Year's Eve. It started off ok with some tasty small canapés and some Buck's Fizz but quickly went downhill when we tried to order a draft pint of beer. The beer was poor quality so we tried a Guiness which was in a can and was even worse. They only had enough Brandy for 2 drinks and it was New Years Eve for goodness sake! There wasn't enough staff either. The meal was awful too. The only good thing about the evening was the DJ. Such a lovely place but no atmosphere and obviously some bad management. Collapse

Checked into hotel Saturday evening for what I thought would be a relaxing break. Room was cold, coffee stains on bedside table, shower hose split so had to turn shower head round and wash using spurting water and was put in the room directly above the Christmas party that was going on and was subjected to Wham and Slade blasting away until 1am. Breakfast, waited 15 minutes for tepid coffee, no plates, no eggs, no bacon and the orange juice left a bad taste in my mouth - pretty much like my stay at Holiday Inn. Wasted £102. Not at all happy Collapse

This is a budget hotel and like all budget hotels there are benefits and downsides. The big downside was that the person in the next room put the television on at 6:30 in the morning and it was switched off at about 11:00 in the evening. It was so loud that I could hear every word - I requested the hotel to have a word with them but it made no difference. The positives are excellent parking facilities, very good breakfast service and helpful staff. Also the use of the fitness centre in the adjoining building is a bonus. Collapse

Just spent a week at this hotel on a work trip, rooms were comfy and clean and the staff were all friendly and helpful. There was a party going on one night, but who cares! It’s christmas and is to be expected at this time of year - good on them. Food was very nice, we only ate in the bar but you are able to order off of both menu’s - the only down side would be that the bar was freezing cold and lacks a bit of atmosphere which is easily resolvable. I think if they refurbed the bar and made it a bit more comfy and welcoming it would be a great asset. Overall, nice hotel, lovely team of staff and good location Collapse

I booked a couple of nights as I was working in the area and had a day off between. I chose this hotel because I wanted a pool and I wanted to try the famous Barnsley chop. Parking is right outside the hotel and secure. The lobby is spacious and it was nicely decorated for Christmas with a tall tree. The room was as expected and clean and the bed was comfortable. In the week before my booking I was called by the hotel to warn me that there was an event on over the weekend. They offered to move me for the second night to a quieter part of the hotel. I always travel with earplugs and so was not bothered about moving, but it was good that they had the decency to call. With my earplugs in I was not disturbed at all. The pool is in the Bannatyne fitness centre next door. It is not a spa or luxurious experience but everything is there, including sauna and steam room. On my second night I tried the huge Barnsley chop and it was very good. I was served by Eve, who was efficient and friendly and suited to a hospitality role. The staff are a young team but they were all welcoming and friendly and all showed the hallmarks of good training. The only negative that I experienced was ordering a sandwich when the restaurant was closed. Obviously it was not made by a chef, it was probably pre-made and stored in the fridge and so it lacked flavour. When I go back I will avoid food when the restaurant is closed. Perhaps the more clinical experience of a leisure centre is a downside, but then some hotel facilities can be badly run or dirty so at least it was efficient. Collapse
