Holiday Inns can be a bit samey with a rather bland corporate feel, but this one really stands out from the norm. It's beautifully designed and decorated. It has a shop and a restaurant. The food was excellent - more than you pay for similar food in Athens itself but very reasonable by airport hotel standards. You can have room service at no extra cost. The rooms are huge with luxurious bathrooms. They really spoil you with nice toiletries, terry cloth bathrobes and slippers. Bed and pillows were very comfy. Service was efficient at reception and in the restaurant. If you have an early flight (and don't want to make use of tea/coffee making facilities in your room) they have nice coffee and cake on offer while you wait for the free shuttle bus. Best of all they offer an indoor pool with jacuzzi - and a well-equipped gym too in you want a workout. It's a bit on the pricey side. I thought it was a bit pricey when I booked, but considering how much you would pay for a taxi to and from the airport, plus the free early morning breakfast, I think the price was fair. Collapse
Surprisingly bad service

My wife and I stayed 1 night at the Holiday Inn Athens on our way home from our honeymoon. I have stayed in many IHG hotels around the world, and an IHG preferred customer, but was very disappointed with a few things at this hotel. First the good stuff - the room was roomy, comfortable, and clean, the food in the bar was quite good although a bit overpriced (which was expected for an airport hotel in a tourist city). The not so good stuff. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel as if we were a burden on receptionist. After initially greeting us and thanking us for staying, I asked about the free airport shuttle that the hotel advertises (in fact that's why we chose this hotel). I initially asked for the 9AM shuttle then changed my mind to request the 7AM shuttle. The receptionist looked at me as if I had two heads. He scoffed, shook his head, and looked down to his computer. I asked if there was a problem and he said that he was checking to see if it may be possible. I asked him if the bus was full and he said no, so I told him to put us on that bus. His demeanor and attitude were unprofessional and not up to IHG standards (don't worry, they got a direct review). The hotel also advertised a restaurant on property that was open until 10PM. This was important because our flight into Athens arrived at 8PM and we needed to know if we would need to make other dinner arrangements. However, when we got to the hotel (at 8:30) the restaurant was closed. The hours listed by the door clearly stated 10PM but the lights were off and the door was locked. However, they were serving food in the bar area. Unfortunately, they were so overrun with customers that service was very slow and there was limited seating available. We were forced to sit in the smoking section and waited for almost 10 minutes before a waiter came to bring us water and take our drink order. To be fair, the food, when it arrived, was very good. I will not be staying at the Holiday Inn Athens again. There are many better choices out there. Collapse

We had most of the day in Athens waiting for a late flight to Dubai- so with an 11 year old and a ton of luggage - we decided to check into this hotel for the day. We didn't know where to catch the free shuttle- se we caught a taxi and it was E22- it was only 10 minutes away. Check inn was seamless with a friendly receptionist. We booked an executive room - which was very comfortable. It had all the comforts- excellent Wi-Fi, comfortable large bed, mini bar, large shower etc. We ate in the restaurant - ok its not the best food in the world- but it was perfect for our needs- the service was excellent. You have to book the shuttle for the journey back - the shuttle driver was friendly and he left on time- and 15 minutes later he dropped us outside of the Emirates gate. A worth while alternative to spending the whole day at the airport! Collapse

We stayed here overnight before an early morning flight. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The check in and check out were quick and efficient. The pool was welcome after a day exploring Athens. The room service food was terrible - poor quality and served cold. I expected better. There is a service station next door with minimum drinks, snacks and a sandwich fast food section. The buffet breakfast was reasonable although our shuttle arrived early so we did not get to finish our breakfast. Location was the winner here for us. Collapse

I wish to retract everything I said about this hotel when I stayed last year! Last year I gave them the benefit of me not knowing where to find the shuttle bus exactly and the timing. When I finally worked it out, not because the hotel gives you detailed info, I was happy with my stay. This morning I called from abroad and confirmed my stay and double checked the timing of the shuttle bus. With 20 mins to spare I waited in the right place looking for the green Holiday Inn bus, to no avail!!!!! On the hour I phoned the hotel again and .... well there is a bus.... maybe it is white and no markings on it!!!!!! And yes it left at 3pm as I was standing there looking for it!!!! The ONLY reason one stays at an airport hotel and pays top dollar is for the convenience!!!! I have to be back at the airport at 7am tomorrow morning. I am now at the beach and will pay top dollar for taxis but I will not stay the night with this hotel who do not make it easy for the commuter. You have my money as I've prepaid but I will NOT stay with you!!!!! It is not about the money, if you want to provide a service to airport travelers be Professional!!! NOT happy! Collapse
