We wanted somewhere that we would get some sun as the UK is very cold in Jan/Feb. We have never been to the Algarve at this time of year so we weren't too sure what we were getting. We needn't have worried as when we arrived we had sunshine everyday all day with great temperatures and a nice calm evening. The hotel was in a great location right by the beech, and it was only a 30-40 minute transfer from Faro airport. The room was clean and tidy but a little dated, not the usual modern standard of a Holiday Inn in the UK but pleasant enough that's for sure. The facilities in the hotel are great, there are a number of restaurants associated with the hotel including the Raj Indian restaurant and the Beech restaurant (which was closed when we were there) along with the main restaurant in the hotel which offers buffet breakfast/lunch/dinner every day. The breakfast was great but we ate out for lunch and dinner. The bar was good, offering a great selection and it also had live music playing on a few evenings during the week. I must say that the piano needs tuning! Outside the hotel you will find a lot of different places to eat but you'll need to do a bit of exploring if you don't use google maps. The Water dog opposite is a great British bar if you are missing home. My only observation which is only a side note for the younger generation is that this hotel partners with 'Saga' and because of this if you are under 50 there won't be many people your age staying at this hotel. I must state that this might be different at other times through the year. We had a great stay at this hotel, we enjoyed all the facilities and the balcony in the hotel room was fantastic and gave us lots of sun bathing time during the day. We will be back later on in the year for sure!! Collapse

Stayed here for 2 weeks in January, my Father in Law was there for 4 weeks and we joined him for his last 2 weeks. The Hotel is a great Location right near the Beach and has a sheltered pool area which was lovely to read and sunbath from late morning to about 16.30pm, which was great for January. The room we had was fine with a Balcony and sea views both directions down the beach, but our Bathroom was very small. The room was kept very clean and so was all areas of the Hotel. The Hotel was let down by the food, we had overcooked fried eggs with solid yolks, when asked for a poached egg that came under cooked. The main courses was mainly Pork or Turkey and the 1 day there was Beef for a change it was like leather and I could not cut it. Odd times they had a grill in the evening but the Chef would cook too many and then the food was left on a plate going cold. If you timed it right and got food from the grill when freshly cooked it was hot and ok. It was such a shame that the hotel at this time didn't have many guests but it seemed like they cooked enough for a full hotel and we often saw nearly full trays of food and especially over cooked eggs being taken away, what a waste. We was All Inclusive but ate out 5 nights in the 2 weeks we there for a change. Don't book All Inclusive as there are good restaurants at good prices outside the Hotel Collapse

Good breakfast buffet though not quite so happy with evening meal but that’s ok, there are restaurants near by. Good value and a very enjoyable stay. Would happily go back another time. Collapse

We are so glad we chose this place. The welcome from Manuela was excellent, the view from the room was brilliant and the pool and facilities were top notch. Even the fellow guests were great! It's not often you mention Reception staff but they all deserve a huge THANK YOU. Manuela, Matilde and Vanessa were especially helpful with our specific enquiries but everyone was lovely....I just can't remember all their names. The room was well-maintained and serviced to a very high standard. The breakfast was high quality with great service and everything was clean and in good supply. The Restaurant Manager was eager to serve and make you welcome and we especially enjoyed our chats with Rodrigues and Virgolino....they were so charming. There was plenty to do to and see nearby and yet the hotel was quiet - perfect. The entertainment was very good too. We look forward to coming back. Thank you to all the team. Collapse

Booked the cheapest room (promenade view) so didn't expect too much, so wasn't greatly disappointed. We were given a reasonable first floor room over a car park and dustbins, which didn't seem to get much sun (in January) so was a bit cold at times. We knew we were going to be out pretty much, so didn't complain or try to upgrade. The Holiday Inn seems to be the only 4* hotel in Armacao de Pera so it was the only choice for us, but also because it's right next to a wonderful beach and on the promenade for short evening walks to a few decent restaurants in the area. The location of the room aside, we had a good time in the town and would go back to the hotel again. Next time we'll select a better room. Collapse
