An airport hotel is a place to stay on the way to somewhere else and this one does that job adequately – but no more. It won’t linger in the memory but pick the right room and it’s not likely to offend much either so it’s just average. After 10 minutes at the shuttle pickup point (outside T1 to the right) it’s a 10-minute ride to the hotel. Depending upon the information you consult, there are either regular services (20-25mins) throughout the day or until 14:30 whereupon it necessitates calling the hotel to arrange a pickup. Check before arrival. The walk-up appeal is reminiscent of the Great Pyramid: big and old. Once inside the atrium is as cavernous as NASA’s rocket assembly building with coalition of decorative cues from the Guggenheim to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. After the dazzle subsides it’s a strangely sterile space. The good: a slick and welcoming front desk had us checked in promptly. Our ‘Executive Floor’ twin guestroom was adequately roomy, clean, comfortable and well appointed. Everything expected was there and it mostly worked as expected. The beds were comfortable and the linens plush. The bathroom is a bewildering burlesque of glass, mirrors, verde marble and chrome that speaks more of bygone fashion than function but it did everything asked of it. Power outlets abound throughout the suite and the wifi (included with Hilton Honors, but otherwise @ $$) worked well on all our devices. There is a fair assortment of English (and other) language entertainment and news channels on the TV. The Executive Floor guest’ lounge hosts a ‘Happy Hour’ from 18:00 daily with an assortment of tapas & libations that could make a serviceable substitute for dinner. The breakfast; a buffet taken on the stadium-like floor of the atrium was a fair example of the genre. A good selection of cross-cultural staples abated by somewhat tardy service. The not so good: the surroundings are an unappetizing panorama of airport/industrial blight. Like much of Barajas Airport, the hotel has been around since well into the last century and the guestrooms have probably reached the limits of what refurbishments can disguise. The décor and furnishings might have been avant-garde a few decades ago but now they’re just passé – with some examples of downright shabby. Some of the electrics and light switching are almost museum pieces – and work that way. The twin beds are of the single variety which doesn’t provide much security for restless sleepers. On balance, the king bed option might have been the better choice. The major shortcoming of the building’s age is poor noise insulation. Modern airport hotels can be as quiet as a tomb but this one is neither modern nor quiet. Forget the aircraft noise, the hotel is right beside a major freeway interchange so the perpetual traffic noise obliterates any and all aircraft noise. Which noise penetration is amplified by the unyielding decorative surfaces and the wood flooring. The bad: the air conditioning in our room was totally useless. With a full glass west-facing wall the room became sauna-like during the day of our winter stay despite the AC on maximum cool and the only respite was to open the door/window for some breathable air – accompanied by a good deal more of that traffic noise. We will be returning here in a few months because of its airport convenience not because it’s a great place to stay but we will bring earplugs and get a room facing anywhere but north or west. Excellent room and very tastefully done. The bathroom was top class. It seems they have taken care of all that you may desire. The breakfast was especially very lavish and well spread. The staff was very helpful and efficient.

My colleague and I stayed at the Hilton Madrid Airport on a recent business trip to Madrid. As our business was outside the city it made sense to stay here and also avail of the proximity of the airport. The hotel is grand in scale but cosy in parts. There are plenty of rooms spread across the two towers with access being easy for either. There is a small shop at the bottom of the South Tower which has some decent local products (clothes, bags etc.) but keep in mind that the shop has approximate opening and closing times depending on business level. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Check-in was performed quickly and we were in our respective rooms within 10 mins of checking in. My hotel room was of a very good size with nice big windows. As we landed during snow the room was perfectly heated to allow me to reheat and feel warm again. The breakfast both mornings was of a good variety with all food tasting lovely and fresh. Similarly we ate in the hotel restaurant both nights with the food being perfect and tasty. While the prices seemed a little higher than expected they were not extortionate. My only issue with the hotel was the size and number of equipment within the fitness centre on the first floor. There were two running machines, one spinning bike, one rowing machine, a cross-trainer and another piece of equipment which appeared out of order. Obviously with the large number of business people travelling this meant that all equipment was in-use when I reached the gym and was unable to work-out. I would suggest using a bigger space and providing more equipment. Collapse

I really loved the room and as a Hilton Gold Member the upgrade to the executive floor. The airport transfer service was quick and efficient, only minus point that it's just starts at 05:00 am ... Staff is friendly and nice. Nevertheless the Minus points: - strang accounting service. Even though I've just taken the free water (not in the minibar) and coffee (as a Hilton Gold Member) afterwards my credit card has been charged by 5 EUR. My questions regarding this transaction have not been replied within a reasonable time (till now ...) - I still don't have the credits of my points. At check-in I wasn't asked if I like more points or free breakfast, last point important, since I checked out before 5 o'clock in the morning and communicated this Although nice room experience, as a Hilton Gold member I have a strange feeling afterwards about promises and arbitrary credit card charges ...
